@@mrfatuchi I actually think Conan has integrity. He would not be faking this. He would just made a funny segment out of it, if he failed. They may have speed it up a little bit, but he climbed this on his own and deserves his flowers. 😀

@@ShivaRainchild He wasnt even hiding it. The rope is under tension most pf the time and the lady is pulling on it with her whole weight when he is stepping up. I really dont understand how you cannot comprehend that rock climbing is really difficult even for most in shape young person who never did it, they arent scaling that wall.

@@davidbc5023 What a dumb comment... You can hoist a person up too. She is literally hoisting him up you can see her pulling down with her own weight and then cranking the thing. Rope is at tension at all times.

Few people I've seen make Conan laugh that hardily!

Tried rock climbing once. It was really hard, much harder than it looks. Whitney was very impressive and Conan did a great job

it's an important notion. If there's a large weight disparity, either the other end of the rope or the belayer is anchored at the bottom. If the weight difference is small, the friction in the system will slow the fall down as well.

The girl was quite far back as she was lowering him (likely for filming purposes) and that weight difference would definitely have pulled her into the wall and very likely off the floor a bit as well. She very probably had two or three sandbags attached to her harness as ballast which would’ve held her in place. You sometimes get ground anchors that you can clip into your harness with a lanyard as well but they’re usually situated pretty close to the wall whereas sandbags are moveable and you just add more as needed.

I wonder if she intimidates most Thai men. She's at least a few inches taller than most Thai women and MUCH stronger. I'm pretty sure the average Thai girl is like 5'1" or 5'2". Conan makes everyone look much smaller. Side note, I've never been to SE Asia but living in NY where I interact with Asian people on a weekly basis, I think Filipinos and Thais have the best sense of humor out of all of the Asian countries in my opinion.

But people need to understand the dynamics and logic to a conversation like this. Asians are very polite people and that's how she started out with the polite remark on Conan's biceps. Instead of thanking for the compliment or acknowledging she might just be polite, he put her on the spot. And that's when a line is crossed and the Asian no longer feels the need to be courteous. This is all fun and even exaggerated for the camera, but in real life conversations between Asian and non-Asian do work like this.
