Coms for everyone BAOFENG UV-82HP

Ойын-сауық

Cost effective coms to get you into the game to learn and explore as well as be capable. Definitely recommend getting coms squared away while you can’t buy ammo.

Nice! 👍👍 I have 3 of those units and am studying for my tech license right now. Like you, I also got some extended batteries and the Nagoya antennas. For $33-40 each, they're a great value.

I just bought 2 of these UV-82HP and they seem to have many features that the big brand $500 - $700 radios would have. I also owned a couple of ICOM portable transceiver for 18 years and back in 2003 I paid $350 per radio. Good description video! Thank you

Just recently decided to get into amateur radio. A friend actually gave me a UV-82hp (in new condition) that he no longer uses. I take my technician test later this week and look forward to seeing what this radio will do. A lot of people dislike Baofeng but just as many love them. From what I can tell the UV-82hp seems to winning over even some dedicated UV-5R users.

I got 2 regular uv-82's about 6 months ago, and one went out. No biggie - it was 25 bucks shipped. Right before it went out, I had ordered 2 of the HP's that came with 2 regular and 2 big batteries for right at 90 bucks. They're not nearly as good as my anytone DMR ht - but they also aren't 200 each.

3:58 - Double A's ? Are you sure it's not the triple A's ? I would definitely get an AA adapter, but couldn't find one anywhere, not even a reference picture, just an AAA one, which.. Idk, what would it give you, like one or two hours of use.. ? I've only seen/found the 6xAA adapter, but for the UV-5R.. Anyways, the extended 3600mAh (or 3800mAh.. whichever is true.. ) is definitely a must have as well.

FRS and MURS are frequencies located for license-free use only in USA so you are even bigger law breaker because you are transmitting on frequencies that you are not licensed to use.

I have a BF-F8HP which is the "HP" version of the uv5r, 2 (now down to 1 because one broke) UV-82's and 2 UV-82HP's. The one 82 that broke - I got a little over 6 mo out of it. I've heard of that happening with 5R's too though. They're basically the same radios inside. I think the 82 might dual watch? It does have 2 PTT buttons which will switch between the upper and lower channel / frequency. Not really sure if its dual watch, but I think it does? I personally like the feel of the 82 better. It's a little bit more finicky to get to sit in the charging cradle, but overall the case and knobs seem tougher on the 82 than the 5R. Now - one thing I can say - I have a problem with one of the PTT buttons on one of the 82's - it "clicks" but you have to push more to get it to transmit so you can accidentally be going in and out like you're bouncing on the button. I kind of like the uv5r ptt button a bit better, it just isn't as "splash resistant" I don't think. Oh also - the speaker mics - on the UV82 the speaker mics PTT button works the bottom channel so you kind of lose the dual functionality if you use one of those. Or maybe they make one with 2 buttons for the 82, idk ...

Nagoya NA-771 - but make SURE you get a genuine one, there are a lot of fakes - I have 2 fakes that came with some other radios, and they don't have the loading coil - I swept them with an analyzer and the rubber duck they come with is better than the fake - and the fake could blow out your transmitters (way high SWR)... BaofengTech has the real ones (also known as BTech). If you want a slightly smaller and more flexible one I think thats the Nagoya NA-701. Honestly I run the ducks on mine, they're not terrible.

They both have "hp" and "non-hp" versions, and they're more or less internally the same if you compare the 2 "hp" versions and the 2 regular ones. But there ARE differences. Overall I like the 82 better. See my comment above to Karson ...

@@mattrowe1229 KZread is bad about that, partly because the content isn't really timeline based. A lot of times people don't respond because the video / comment is old. - partly because a lot of people are just here to watch videos. Content creators a lot of times just don't have the time to answer every comment too. Oh - one more thing that I like about the uv-82 better is that the "0", "#" and "*" buttons are where you'd expect it on a phone keypad instead of to the right of the other numbers. It's kind of a toss up, or a matter of personal preference in a lot of ways between the two, but overall I decided to go with the UV-82 style radios. The batteries / chargers and by extension the battery eliminators aren't interchangeable, so I thought picking one style would be best -- so after using the 5r type for a while I got the 82's and I do like them better overall. Another thing to mention - is don't get hung up on watts. I got the 5r first because of a "1W" difference, come to find out - on the same radio, UHF puts out a bit less watts than VHF just because of how radios work - and the 5r HP type listed VHF max watts (8) while the 82 HP type listed UHF max watts (7) - but neither specified and they're both identical in reality. A better antenna will do WAY more than an extra watt or two. When put on an actual power meter, none of them put out advertised watts anyway and some places lie about specs too. The "hp 8W" versions generally put out about 6 watts on high. The "5w" versions put out about 4 - but it varies a bit because they don't have the best QC. The one I REALLY like best so far is the Anytone AT-878UV, but its geared toward digital radio so it's not as easy to program as a baofeng. I'ts also a lot more expensive. I don't recommend for a first radio unless you're a solid techie or have radio friends that can help.

@@notsure7874 when we get our next stimulus check i am going to buy a pair of something, just to have around, i am also an ex saergeant for a land rescue team, so i know something about radios, i have figured out that when the Chinese say something is 8 watts, they mean 3 watts on low, and 5 watts on high total 8 watts, a sales ploy, just like on there batteries and everything else they sell, its all about sales and deception, i have watched a lot of videos on these radios, antennas, ect, i even went to the fcc website to look at the licenses, i want a radio that is part 90, 95, certified, so there should never be a problem, i mean after all, they are the governing function and its there id number. Ive just seen all these videos on the 5r, so thats why i was looking at other models, if the fcc doesnt like the 5r, dont buy the 5r, simple, 1 or 2 watts wont do much, thanks for replying again, i wil look at the other models as well, if i can get an 8 model with a little more power for about the same price as a 5r,thats what i will probably do.

This is a perfect example of why just owning the radio won’t save your ass. You don’t even know the vhf calling frequency(146.520) or that there’s nothing on 180mghz, or that the radio doesn’t operate there. There’s actually ham radio frequencies you could program on that that are more useful then what the cops are doing. Including in programming would be repeaters that could extend your transmit range to 100 miles, vastly improving the range to family or others in your group. Again just having the radio won’t save you you need to learn how to use it. Study for your tech ham license and go take the test.

  • @HeritageOutdoorsLLC

Yes but no, I have no interest in communication with anyone generically so I don't care a bout the calling frequency. A lot of what I talked about and some of what I didn't is why I have it, I use it more as a scanner, 90%of its life is just listening. The only communication I care about through it is communicating with people I have already set up how we are doing that. You make the comment save your ass, my question is when did I say it would I have better tools for ensuring I get rescued then a radio. Also I agree that yes people should get their license but you don't need it man the fact that they have a licensing system for a communication tool is wrong. Non compliance is the way.
