You don't need to go to the distance past, in many countries right now, in the present, people are going either in a hole in the ground or an outhouse. So, consider yourself privileged. I'm thinking of getting one of those toilets because I pay so much for water and sewage where I live that I am going to end up asking for alms. I think that people in these Gov Agencies eat money.

Exactly the video I was looking for. Nobody explains how the solids and liquids separate, that's the most important part! Now I'm comfortable with getting one. I like the idea of a composting toilet and hope to get one someday once I've secured my own project RV. I kind of question though, whether any actual composting is going on. Composting is a complex process involving a lot of biological activity, bugs, fungus, rot, the right amount of moisture and heat. Lots of heat. None of that occurs in a composting toilet. It's a misnomer. I think the actual principle they are based on is desication. The solid waste is mixed into a dry substrate and is dried further through ventilation. Once dry, there's minimal smell. Composting hasn't occurred. Desication has occured.

Been seriously looking into these but this is the 1st time I heard the warranty for 5yrs? I would've thought for the price it would be longer... What is covered, since very little mechanics? the optional 110 (for homes I assume), is there an extra cost to that as well? I would also note that other reviews have mentioned the use of compost bags which I think is better than trash bags. Kind of defeats the "composting " no? But I guess if throwing in a dumpster or trash that would be preferable. Not being a naysayer just gathering info. Thank u for the video.

Having read some of the comments, has it occurred to these people, that in the not-so-distant past, toilets and sewage plumbing did not exist? How do you think people back then got rid of all their poop and urine? People came to collect it and they composted it in huge piles and then used it for farming! This video simply shows you an invention which makes it easier to manage at the "home" level". Of course it's going to smell. You don't think that when you vent the smell out the tubes they provide you with to the outside it'soccasionally going to get blown right back in with the breeze through your windows? LOL! So why am I here watching this? I'm a newbie prepper living in a high rise apartment who has identified my own sewage as my biggest problem in a long term SHTF. When water and sanitation services go to crap, pun intended, your personal crap in all the corners of your home will kill you in a matter of weeks. Even if you have stockpiled a year's worth of food, you won't be alive to eat it, if you can't get your shit together, again, pun intended. Of course it's disgusting. That's what poop and pee is.

Well, on the plus side it doesn't require plumbing. So it's a nice -solution- patch for situations of poverty (homeless/refugees). On the negative side, people do have diearrea, and the smell vents each time you open the hatch, and I don't see how you intend to keep it clean without a shower spray in reach. So in short it's a crossover of dark ages and new age.

I've heard the only smell can be occasionally urine, but If you spray a bit of vinegar water in the pee side it goes away. The composting literally turns it into dirt. The pure nasty is when urine and poop mix bacteria has a problem breaking it down. People have said emptying the Blackwater tank with all the gross connections is way worse then having to dump pee, or change compost

the smell mostly comes from the moisture. this thing separates the piss. so the shit goes straight into the compost mix, and gets dried out. as for tossing it in the trash, there is nothing inherently wrong with that. if you have nowhere to toss it, put it in a trash bag and dispose of it that way.a bit of dried out poop and sawdust or whatever you use wont hurt a garbage dump. as for the piss, you can empty it every week if you wanted to.

a trash bag can be used as a protective layer on the toilet and inside a paper shopping bag can be used for extra protection...which is also compost easy....that way we do not have to touch.... humans create the most waste on Earth but we are disgusted by cleaning it and finding a remedy...this composting option is way better than flushing which wastes gallons and gallons of water per flush and we have to clean the toilet bowl anyway with harsh chemicals which causes even more pollution.... any action to save Mother Nature, is a great way to protect our future generations and ourselves along the way....share and care....it is our world afterall...

Being as I recently bought a plot of land and plan to put a cabin on it, I either have two options. Go traditional and spend who knows how many thousands of dollars getting the water well drilled, hooked up, septic tank or sandmound put in and the general maintenance and septic emptied over the years to come or spend a K and get this. I can live with the occasional smell and emptying of this compost toilet over spending 1000s and 1000s of dollars in which case to me is just unnecessary.
