My wife was from Australia (I'm from Switzerland). Unfortunately she died last year of cancer at 36. We were about to move to Australia and wanted to live a simpler life: tiny house, gardening, more time for each other, family and friends. I'm sad she never got to see your channel, she would have absolutely loved it. I've been watching your videos for a couple of days and they're just so peaceful, relaxing, informative and nice. I've never thought a video about compost could make me cry... but here I am. They're happy tears though. I'm a positive person and I'm crying and smiling at the same time, because it's snowing outside, I'm drinking a tea and I know that would have been the kind of cozy day Laura and I would have spent together here at home with our dogs. Thanks for these videos mate, keep up the good work. It makes people happy ❤.

Marco, I was very moved by your comment and I am So very sorry to hear you lost your wife. To hear that you both were seeking a simpler, quieter life really resonates with me. My husband & I are much older, (still Young in spirit & heart tho’); we live in South Florida in the US. We live a pretty simple, slow based life with our 4 lovely companions / our precious dogs- who are Family. I have been rather devoted to composting , fruit tree gardening and doing raised bed gardening in our lovely sub-tropical climate for the past several years. I urge you to continue with your dream toward gardening & living peacefully, simply and with a purposeful life including respect for our planet and all its creatures. If the masses would only pay attention to sustainability- too much emphasis on greed & $$$. Best wishes to you; don’t give up on your dream.

Your energy is amazing! I'm much lazier and only turn my pile once: I do that every fall and start a new pile next door. So I only get one bin per year but that's enough for my smaller garden. It doesn't get hot enough to kill seed (body temp is max) but we have a city compost program for the seedy garden debris so it doesn't go to waste. As always, amazing camera work David!

How in the world, as many gardening channels as I watch, have I managed to miss this guy? I am totally in love lol. Let's see... long-hair runs around barefoot like I do all the time chases mice around and makes beautiful compost. Loves the smell of Rich soil... And an Australian accent to boot. What's not to love? I just wish you could come help me with this mess I call a homestead in Missouri. Too many rocks, too much clay, no rain etc. But I'm trying. Thank you!! I needed this. Going to plant cover crops if it ever rains, then in late winter I'll cut it down, cover with my compost, tarp and let it sit till I plant it. I winter sow, so I have time to let it rest before things have to go out in the garden. I am using turkey, chicken, quail, duck, and rabbit manure, as well as grass clippings and leaves and plants that I've cut out of the garden from this last season excetera.

Imagine throwing out billions of tonnes of compost materials a year, which is effectively what we do as a species. I luv turning everything i can into either chicken feed, weed suppression (like cardboard and paper) or compost. So rewarding, just wish more packaging was made from plain paper and cardboard. Also potato starch foam for packing white goods etc would be a giant step forward for waste reduction.

Weedy, I thoroughly enjoyed this video lesson on composting. I’ve been gardening and composting for 50 years and I do things slower these days. My compost pile is 1 1/2 meters square. I’m not very careful about green and brown although I make sure both are there. It only gets turned when I dig a hole in it to bury a bucket of kitchen scraps, and once a year in fall after the main garden is done for the season I dress each bed with a little rabbit manure, an inch or so of compost and a couple inches of leaves that were somewhat shredded when I got them up with my lawnmower. I just let it rest till spring planting and the soil is beautiful. I guess its a combination of bin composting and sheet composting. It’s fairly easy, and slow, but nature is slow and steady. Thanks again, you videos are fascinating.

You can afford to go slow when you have such distinct seasons. If you are waiting for it to warm up you might as well be waiting for compost to decompose too. I’m in the subtropics so can use my garden beds all throughout the year. Actually I’m just starting out again at a new place and have only just started a little bit of planting. There is lots of planning and construction going on. I have started composting so I can fill my new beds eventually. I like David’s system for churning out lots of compost. I live on an island. I can get plenty of greens. Browns are more challenging.

This is a very thoughtful and wonderful video. Thank you for being so creative and sharing it all so cleverly with us. Music, sound effects, daily reporting, it must cost you a tremendous amount of work to document in the style you use. I'm deeply grateful. Have a lovely day!

@@TheWeedyGarden amazing, it is so great when the mind and the spirit open up at the same time in the same place. I have relocated 700km east within Europe, and have a terrace now, where I've started over with flowers and herbs, an aloe, an Algarve, a banana tree that didn't survive the move etc etc. I bake my own bread and make kefir exchanging those with my colleagues for eggs and sour dough starters... So I'm much closer to a time and place for creative energy to manifest. Thank you Weedy, for being such a gentle inspiration during a time of high strain, you are a magical source of strength. Greetings to you from Europe in springtime. X

Love your passion mate. Please keep it real when your channel explodes which it will and not go commercial like a lot of successful youtubers fall foul of. Cheers.

by far the best video. I love it when you go deep and show stuff and try to explain it through science. Its not like a science class but just a guy learning stuff his way. Love the content. Thanks.

Great stuff!! Showed the bliss of composting beautifully. Diversity of ingredients really makes it an art form. The LAB is such an awesome addition. Some woodchip in there as well and I reckon you’re as close as you can get to the perfect range of ingredients. Thank you again for what you do :)

👏👏🤙🏻🥕🌸🫑🥬🐝🌿🍌🌹🐞
