Mark is the lead singer and is also a vocal coach with his own channel where he breaks down other artists' vocal techniques. You also get to hear him demonstrating with his beautiful unaltered growls/screams

Also his videos got the sort of educational vibe. You learn how to do some of the techniques too lol

Check out their song "Glass Phantoms" - also from this album, which has a sick video. The mix may be a bit better, but I understand the album was mixed in a way where "The vocals felt like part of the performance as a whole / like their own instrument in the mix" and didn't need to come out on top or over much. Overall, listening to the album as a whole, you get a better idea of why it was mixed in the way it is. Hell, I'll buy you the album if you want a copy!

I'll definitely check it out! I'm intrigued - solid band for sure. As for the mix, whoever said that can say that, but I understand the engineering side - that's not creative license, that's a shitty mix lol. And if BY SOME CHANCE they really did attempt to blend the vocals into the instrumental (which isn't how it should be done anyway), they did the entire band a disservice, because THIS is one of the most versatile singers I've seen / heard in a long time - he needs to be "featured" in the mix, not smeared into the background.
