Compost 3-Bin System - Part 7 - Complete Bins: Fronts Installed

Compost Bins are complete with the fronts on the bins. Were made in two parts because of the size of the wood that I had, and also that if it was a whole front, would be more difficult to remove for a shorter person.
Included a diagram on how to cut the 2x4s for the tracks. For the side tracks, just have to cut one side of the 2x4. Just pause to get the measurements.

One can add worms, but what I have found so far after this summer, "If you build it, they will come!" The worms are already in the soil, they just need a reason and a place to do their business. I moved all of the compost to two bins, and saw worms in the soil after I moved the compost. I thought about putting up wire to fence them in, but they kept getting out, and the ones I branded, did not make it! LOL Thanks for watching!

Very nice looking bins, I might have to copy this from you. I just seen a seminar and the speaker stated that the only thing that should be composted primarily please some grass and coffee grounds everything else should be used in the w seminar in the speaker stated that the only thing that should be composted are primarily leaves and some grass and coffee grounds & everything else should be used in the worm-bin because it adds nothing to the compost. I found that interesting and wanted to share that with whoever would care to hear it.

+edwardsdeacon Thanks for watching. Please feel free to copy the design. I copied it as well and just used the materials that I had available to me. I guess that just depends on what they are using the compost for.

I've got a similar system and you really want to extend the front beams into the ground. Otherwise the compost will push the sides out, which makes your front panels fall out. ..... But I guess you found out by now. :) edit- Come to think of it, you will probably only have that problem on one side of your bin, not both sides as I do. You could be okay after all. :)

+TheBushdoctor68 the front beams are about 24 inches in the ground. Have not had an issue with the sides being pushed out. I did remove the front panels because they fell apart after two years. Having the fronts open has actually helped. Thanks for watching.

+West Texas Prepper 24 inches?! Hah, you could build a house on that. :) That's perfect.

Thank you for watching. They are doing a great job, now just have to let time work. I should have some good stuff by the end of the summer / next year. Will be able to add grass clippings and other plant matter now. I turn them once a week and keep them moist.

West Texas Prepper, has the bin flexed? I want to use a screen front, but might go with your design. Does it look like the doors will slide up and down easily for years?

OccupyTheMicrophone the bins have not moved at all. doors work fine, but I used thin plywood and it delaminated with the weather. I have since pulled the fronts off, but material still stays in the bins. the fronts were more of an aesthetic touch. Thank you for watching

You could have fixed two vertical timbers to the inside of the posts and ran one row of horizontal rails between them; would have saved on timber. Nice work though.

New to this stuff. Know it's an old vid... could you do something like this and after the compost is ready plant a tree or something directly under it?

I do not see why not. I would not use strait compost, but mix it in with the soil well. Thanks for watching.
