    quick tip. If you render a large enviroment with volumetric acting as mist for godrays and things like that, you can use a mix shader with transparency and plug in the IsShadowRay from LightPaths node to it. It will ignore casting shadows of the volume, a third of the render time. Also, for even simpler mist, place a plane in front of the camera and give it a emission material, but plug it into the volume output. Happy blending.

    This tutorial and your comment has been extremely helpful. Knocked my volume render times down from 10 min to 3. Also, unfortunately I have to use cycles for my volume because the node setup doesn't work in EEVEE. So I doing the same process then splicing them together with the compositor as shown. I've needed insight on this particular subject for a long time so thank you both.

    Who else is gonna use this in a still render? I surely will! I just realised I could do this? Now I can actually use volumetrics with no time constraints!! This was seriously useful, thanks!!!

    That's why I love Vray for this kind of stuff, I just enable VRayEnvironmentFog ( or VRayAerialPerspective ) and boom there I have fairly accurate volumetric effect, fog, volume lights or whatever at almost no render time cost. It's not calculating GI scattering by default tho but it's damn fast and still accurate. Anyway as always great stuff and useful not only for Cycles/blender.

    I did this method and it saved me probably half of the render time (~13h instead of ~30h) on a GTX 1080. The only thing is that i somehow have some small black outlines on all edges, but its not too bad. So definitiely worth it if youre in a hurry

    Im still not sure why the Blender team cant get Eevee to look and perform like UE4.. I cant complain though, amazing 3D software for free. But i still really wish they could.

    For me, Eevee looks good I think in terms of how shaders look etc. Eevee looks too close to cycles without GI or unsupported features. but only missing things are some features for GI, GI baking and performance improvement features like culling etc for particles handling. (raytracing also if its what people mean that it doesnt look good like UE4). I agree they shouldnt stop and improve it with new coming out features.

  • @mcan-piano4718
    @mcan-piano47182 жыл бұрын

    I think eevee looks good if done properly, sometimes looks better than UE4 too unless there is a extra UE4 feature that a person needs. Eevee looks almost identical to cycles except GI and other missing things. Plus its the only engine that has perfect similarity and consistence between a raytraced and realtime engine. Even in EU4, Twinmotion or other softwares, pathtracer and realtime engine looks different or give different colors or results (not just about not having raytraced GI etc). But Eevee absolutely looks similar to cycles more than all other softwares. When eevee get some raytracing or realtime GI etc, it will be super closer without baking more than all other softwares. I really like the way cycles and eevee go hand in hand and match with each other except some limitations. So when eevee and cycles get fully supporting each other like having eevee volumetrics and cycles shadows automatically, it will be a game changer. If we imagine cycles has option, ''use eevee volumetrics'' while rendering instead of manually doing it in compositioning. Eeevee and cycles can merge into one hybrid renderer and one day we can have dropdowns option ''shadows - eevee shadows / cycles shadows'' or GI '' Cycles raytraced GI / Baked GI'' like a all in one engine that we can choose which method to use and it can do automatically. Using volumetric pass from eevee in cycles or using shadow pass of cycles for eevee or GI pass of cycles in eevee. anything would be possible. 3 render engine all at once for people to choose 1) cycles 2) eevee 3) hybrid cycles eeevee. Its really sad why noone focus on this... It would be better to have it a priority... I wish there was an addon for doing these things automatically to combine passes of eevee with cycles automatically. Thank you for nice videoo, Maybe u can also do a video about how to usee cycles shadows in eevee etc. These type of videos look really interesting.

    Rather than trying to mask out the objects when rendering in Eevee, why not just render out the "Mist" Layer? Then you can just composite it over the cycles frames.
