Kamelot is one of my favorite bands. I'd love to hear your thoughts on on Tommy, the singer that replaced Roy. Tommy is also in a progressive metal band called Seventh Wonder. Roy is also back with Conception, which is awesome!

Seventh Wonder is so good!!!
couldnt see that anyone told u yet, But Roy Khan(tatat) is actually a fully trained opera singer. he took school then started singing metal after he finnished opera school.
Kamelot is one of the few power metal bands I like and it has mostly to do with Roy Khan, he has a great unique voice. Apparently he studied opera for a few years.
Roy Khan's voice is just pure honey. Amazing.
Kamelot was founded in early 90's. So that sound carries through.Elizabeth is from their Karma album which is mid 90's. My fav falsetto. I often dislike it when men do falsetto. But there is a fullness to Roy's falsetto. He allows some masculine tones to carry it up and doesn't just sound like a guy trying to imitate a female. Play the live version Edge of paradise from this same concert. He uses it there in the beginning too.

Karma is 2001
Kamelot id pretty known here in Europe especially to people listening Nightwish and other Symphonic Metal
Great video. Kamelot used to be one of my favorite bands. I really liked what you said about them being able to help transition people to more technical stuff. TBH, Kamelot helped me get into metal in the first place back in 2008/9.
Thanks so much for doing my reaction choice. 💜🖤💜 The song is from the album Karma that came out in 2001. Welcome to the Kamelot fan club, they have lots of great songs. Check out the singer who replaced Roy, his name is Tommy.
Hi Bryan, you asked if they used backing vocals at this show, they had 3 people i believe, you can see one of them at 10:52, behind the keyboarder. They have a more dominant role in their song Nights of Arabia which they also played at this live show
I find them stylistically closer to the new wave of British heavy metal than American acts like Metallica, in particular the "gallop" and emphasis on melody. I'd like to second the request for The Odyssey by Symphony X. Thanks for putting these together, cheers!

Yeah you're absolutely right.
Thank you for your reaction and analysis. Roy khan, is one of my favourite rock singers. Love his range and technical mastery. Enjoyed listening to your take on the band. Bless you
Man welcome to the world of Kamelot. I grew up with this band and i have loved them for at least 14-15 years now. This is their old singer Roy Khan, he was replaced by Tommy Karevik. Both amazing singers, however Roy was a lot more theatrical and technical. Choosing one song for you to check out is impossible, but these are a few of my favourites: When The Lights Are Down, Sacrimony, The Haunting, March of Mephisto, My Confession, Center of The Universe, Ghost Opera, Rule The World. Any of those Would be great.

You can see behind the keyboard player 2 or 3 backing vocalists , that's what i've Always liked about Kamelot . The use of live backings instead of of a backing track. The post production your always talking about ? . I think every band does that nowadays. Tip: Kamelot - Ghost Opera

Yeah most bands have some production in their live tracks these days -- especially if they did stuff in the studio that wouldn't be reproducible live without more people. It's definitely not a negative comment towards any band. Though just like you, I do enjoy seeing everything performed live.
One Cold Winters Night (OCWN) is the live concert recorded in Norway. Not often you get all 3 parts of Elizabeth (Elizabeth Báthory) together.
The Greatest Band no one knows about.
Cool to see this! Kamelot was one of the groups that introduced me to metal when I was a teen, and their songs were one of the firsts I started learning on my guitar. Very important band for me!
every time I hear this song it sends shivers and makes the hairs stand up on the arms its just pure vocal harmony and wild control with this elevating tempo and intensity.
Khan let's his body do what it wants during performance. Part 2 is where you assumed it to be. 9:30 for Elizabeth III. Off the KARMA album 1991. He has 3 backing singers on this concert.
Also there is actually three backing vocalists beside the keyboard player
Both Tommy and Roy are great singers. Also like their other bands Seventh Wonder and Conception. You should do a Kamelot with Tommy. Awesome band, and good live.
if you want more Kamelot, do Forever or Center Of The Universe.
oh my god yes! love Kamelot specially this three part with roy khan!
Good choice! One of my first favorite bands. And this concert was excellent
You should react to Septicflesh - Portrait of a Headless Man. Has some wonderful blending of metal and orchestration. Also Wilderun - The Tyranny of Imagination. And Winstersun - Awaken from the Dark Slumber.
All time great band... karma will always be my favorite song
I just got into your reactions a few days ago and am really enjoying your perspective on music! Hearing the detailed thoughts of a musician/ composer is really refreshing when you are a musician yourself. I would love to hear your thoughts on “Stars Before The Sun” by Capstan.
I was a big kamelot fan in my early 20s along with lots of power and symphonic acts like rhapsody, stratovarius, sonata arctica, nightwish, epica, ect.. It's good stuff but, much less my cup of tea now mid 30s. Kind of fearing that having patreon voting is going to lead to things becoming a larger popularity contest than actual diverse music lovers getting through :[

I'm working on addressing you concerns about popularity contests. Every week I hand pick 10 songs for the theme and the Patreons pick from those. So while it is a bit of a popularity thing, I also control what is available to choose from and I try to pick a mixed bag (as well as my limited knowledge about these bands can). But I'm also looking to do more videos each week with the intent of returning the picking power fully back to me. So I can get ensure the more fringe bands get a chance to shine again. Starting this week I'm making sure that I do at least one video revisiting a band I've checked out and I'm trying to fit in another weekly video where I just pick a random band from the list.

You're awesome Brian :P. I completely understand your position, in order to do an authentic first reaction you don't go researching every band that comes up. I don't need every reaction to be prog, I love multiple genres. Even when a song is a stinker the process of breaking the music down can still be very interesting . We've had ourselves a great, great run of bands for the most part and as far as mainstream goes we've been blessed to keep it relatively fringe here. Bands like Kamelot, Nightwish have huge gamer and weeb fan bases, like... the nightwish army could seriously take over small governments if they wanted to coordinate it! Lol. Then you have scene bands. Mostly all the hardcore/metalcore/deathcore stuff. These draw huge fans while often having great bands, many, many others are just popular because they copy-pasted another's sound. Repetitive chugs and breakdowns have been in for quite a while now. So while you do those bands they're still usually really good songs, and deserve to share the spotlight too, I guess I'm just anxious about a whole flood of patreons showing up and changing the general flow we've had. What you've said now though has eased those feelings a lot. I love you have some of these themed weeks for sure!

LOVE Roy's voice!!! I also love the fact that they used Elizabeth Bathory as the subject of this song.
You should totally do a reaction to 1.The Odyssey by Symphony X (Composition wise it's pretty great A bit guitar driven sometimes but it has those elements) 2.The Inversion by Beyond Creation 3.Take the time - Dream Theater 4.Dilluvium by Obscura 5.Torn by a Phrase by A.C.T.

Though it might be a more obscure band, it is one of the most requested bands on this channel. being eclipsed by only Tool and Plini. :)
I think the concerts i've been to, where the crowd held the tempo best when the band cut out were Snarky Puppy and Dream Theater. I guess it's just that the kind of audience that listens to their music is generally a bit more well versed in music. ^^
Here's a different type of recommendation: Yes - Close to the Edge (the song). Gotta be one of the top 5-10 classic prog songs of all time and a personal favorite.
They are my favorite band. 😍 if you like falsetto try Prodigal Son by them. It’s after they switch to a new lead singer. The style is symphonic rock. Those symphony sounds mixed with rock. Kamelot does it well and have lots of songs based off of operas and old stories.
great insights and commentary
You should listen to the full concert, the feelings man, hello from Italy
Kamelot is great Roy Khan has a great voice.
Insightful commentary! Kamelot is an old fave! Khan has a great voice! Random request! Thy Catafalque - Molekuláris Gépezetek An avant-garde metal band with a dash of atmospheric instrumentals.
Dropped a like, time to watch the master
This song was released in 2001
Gotta be honest with you here, I have never listened to Kamelot and thought man this sounds 90s. What band was doing this in the 90s?
Just seeing this now. we all love Roys voice, check out more, try abandoned live, or really any other stuff, to get some. Love the critical comments btw.

btw regardin 90s bands one thing. I grew up listening to doom meta, anathema, paradise lost, cradle and so on and really it's so different to what you are talking about but still 90's . I would not really agree with talking about 90s metal because it's so diverse. listen to for example, old mans child - return of the night creatures, hypocrisy -fractured millenium. paradise lost - christendom, anathema - crestfallen, and then all the american stuff like Pantera - floods, and then try to explain what is 90's metal. It just can't be defined.
I have to second the guy recommending Slice the Cake - stone and silver 1, the mountains of man.
Primordial! Great Irish band, some songs have a distinct influence from Irish music, especially Sunken Lungs and Coffin Ships
Thirding the request for "Stone and Silver Pt. 1 - The Mountains of Man" by Slice the Cake. Kamelot was actually my favorite band before I got into prog metal, and I still like them quite a lot. They'd definitely be worth looking more into if you dug this, though I don't have a song request off the top of my head right now lol.
Have you ever listened to Helloween- Keeper of the Seven Keys?
Album KARMA released July 9th 2001.
Please take a gander at Aether Realm's magnum opus, "The Sun, The Moon, the Star". It is a little long, but a masterpiece of metal.
Roy Khan (vocals) studied opera for 3 years actually. :) Please consider doing Queensrÿche - Roads to madness live. But do one from the 80's or early 90's, not later. Another option would be Take hold of the flame live in Japan 1984. Both of these have been done by other channels so should be safe from being blocked.

he didn't study "opera" opera is just a theatrical perfomance sung with classical technique to a orchestral background with character roles. He studied classical singing, not opera.
