Where to start❓ ▶️ I suggest the 4th symphony - "Romantic", being the *easiest* to listen to, as it's the perfect mix between nice tunes and complexity of the works, personally I prefer the 1874 (original) version of the symphony much more. I've made a video about the second movement (althought the track is from the second version): kzread.info/dash/bejne/iKmlw7OFc7C5p5c.html You can find the first version complete here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mXZ93JWwf7etkps.html - ▶️ The 5th symphony is one of the most *monumental* and *grand* artworks of all times, but it's the hardest and requires to be listened several times with much care in order to be appreciated! It also makes sense only when listened fully as the groundbreaking finale it's the apex of the whole works - as a user on YT said - "The 5th is not for the faint-hearted". - ▶️ The 6th symphony is a *fair mix* between the previous two, with a first movement which is close of being my favourite piece ever, but it requires a little bit of acquaintance with Bruckner already. - The others I still have to discover and I don't want spoilers! ;)

I agree that the 4th is definitely the easiest to like, that one is the gateway drug (but the second version). I have listened to the first version once but I am used to the second that I just stick to that one, and it was also the one that Bruckner preferred in his will. The second version of the 4th also has the most epic finale I have ever heard! The 5th I liked more as I listened to it more. That Richard Atkinson video on the finale was really cool. The 6th is one that i've not listened to much because each time i listen to it i just keep playing the first movement over and over lol.

Can't listen to the first version of the 4th, the finale is really inferior (to my mind the only symphony where the original was definitely better than the revisions was the First). Two recordings I love of the 4th are Wand with the Berliner Philharmoniker and more recently Honeck with the Pittsburgh Symphony

And for the 5th the most epic by far is Jochum/Dresden Staatskapelle, although Wand/NDR is also great.

@@zjschrage When you listen to something slightly different (two versions) you instinctively feel something off and you think that is lesser, but you have to listen to it more times, I tried and I feel the first versione as more genuine and true. The finale of the second movement is breathtaking. Yes, the actual finale is better on the second version but it's the only thing that I would say it's better, even tho I do like both of them. Except of that I agree with what you said! The 5th it's an immense castle that you can appreciate only when you know it very well, the first movement of the 6th is great but also the finale has his own epicity, while keeping itself quite light, wich I like very much.
