    As a retired machinist who has seen more accidents that I wanted to see I would strongly recommend you start clamping little pieces of steel into a good toolmakers vise. Clamp the vise to the drill press table, so if while drilling the drill "grabs" the piece you are drilling won't injure you.

  • @ArunBasilLal

    Hello Nate, thank you for taking me / us through the process rather than just showing the highlights. It's a rare opportunity to see what goes in the head of a craftsman while they are doing their craft. I have some feedback. I have never used a power tool to grind metal, so I don't know what it takes to do it. Saying this as an observer. I think the pieces of the handle could blend in better. Right now they look like separate pieces stamped in a factory and assembled in a production line. Don't get me wrong, they all look beautiful individually. But I think it would look better if the edges blended together making it look like a single piece. Thanks again for the video.

    This and the meteorite blade are my favorites. I've always wondered just how dangerous those sanding belts are, I'm guessing "shiny nails" are on the happier side of the potential mishaps.

  • @chorgieporginson6620

    @chorgieporginson6620

    The shiny nail is from the polishing wheel (the white kind of fluffy-looking wheel). If your nail touched a sanding belt you'd lose some nail and/or skin if you're not careful.

  • @superrad1659

    I've only used some slightly smaller-scale sanding belts, and even for those you don't want your knuckles tapping it! Shiny nail from a polishing wheel is definitely on the "happier side."

    @Nate From the Internet I am watching the 2nd video as I type this, the blade looks great 👍, in the comments for the 1st video I asked what happened to the tang which you replied you changed from hidden tang to a through tang, either way would be a good option, just remember for future knife builds regardless of a the construction type you decide to go with, try to keep the tang to a larger size to prevent the knife from snapping as soon as you use it, if you would have left it at the size it was before changing it for a through tang, that size was about perfect for either. There is a ration of blade to tang size in order to prevent breaking. The same reasons why when putting in the shoulders you want to sand, file, grind, etc etc with a rounded union instead of 90° angles, as the 90° angles leave too much to chance of the blade snapping there as well. Other that so far you're doing a great job! Keep it up!!
