Completed Metcalfe model platform resurfacing

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

All platforms are now completed in terms of the surfacing its self.
They still need the lights and final touches which will be covered in a later video.

I’m impressed by the retaining wall as well as the platforms. Nice touches with the ‘green’ scenery now and again throughout the station. Cheers Matt

Great job on the platforms, I have watched both videos. There seems to me that there are conflicts or contradictions in this scene. Some of it looks ultra modern and clean much like I find real British stations to be now and also your choice of rolling stock. I grew up in Britain in the late 1950's / 60's and things were much grubbier then. Some of your layout appears to be old such as the station buildings and canopy. I think I would finish the green paint with a second coat on most of it but leave some as is and set up painters on scaffolding etc. working to finish it off. That would tie in with the "recently laid" new tarmac on the platforms to indicate a station under refurbishment. Just some thoughts and observations from the viewer point of view. Regards, David.

Thanks David I'm basing the image largely on the station where I live in Barnstaple. It has a 150 stone built station building with many modern additions. My station is nowhere near finished and will get lots of little modern touches to bring it up to date. The green will get another darker coat and I'll see what it looks like. I had considered doing what you suggested and will keep it in mind if I can't get it to look right

Platforms look great, you could always hide the joints with people or trolleys.

Yes. There are only 2 joins visible now. I'll find a way to hide them

Platforms look great - are the kits designed for curved platforms or do you have to re work them yourselves ?

The platform's look awesome, great job. I'm not sure on the green either. Could you give it a light weathering with powders to tone it down a little, hope you get a solution that works for you. Cheers, Rich.

Hi, the platforms look great could you let me know what spray paint you used, the canopy's on your building I think if you put a couple of coats of the GWR darker green over the green you have already put on it should look O.K. when you are covering a light colour like cream with a dark colour the first coat always look a bit messy I was a painter by trade an come across this a lot. Hope this helps you. Regards George.

Yeah I will keep working on the green. The paint is Rustoleum aged iron textured spray paint. It's available from homebase.

Hi. If the track is on cork like mine, then you will probably need to sit the platform on cork or something of similar height to allow the platform to be the right kind of height. If all on the same level, for 1:76 I think you want it to be between 18 and 20mm from floor to platform surface. Mine are far from perfect, but I'm happy with how they look and work.

Why don't you just put a channel drain between the platforms over the joints. Not unrealistic to have a channel drain in the location to keep water away from the main building and should be quite simply to knock something up
