What people do not understand is that extremely poor people, generally from third world countries, have to take work from wherever they can find it. Employers have a vast pool of cheap labour. They do not provide safety gear or clean safe conditions for their employees. Virtually no trade unions. But their innovation, hard work and use of reclaimed scrap is astounding. People in the west would never dream of working so hard.

Is the guy at 11:15 wearing boots too poor to buy a good pair of safety-toe flip-flops? I see an opportunity for an NGO charity to help a guy out here...

Safety is not one of their strong points. I worked in a foundry as an electrician, believe me it is one hot place, one small spill of molten metal on one of their feet and it will vaporize, even with safety shoes.
