I had a hindu rope hoya for years. It was planted in a tall planter & the leaves touched the ground. It was gorgeous! I had to give it away when I moved to Hawaii, but I really want another one 😊 I never had any problems with it.

Sometimes sunstressing helps flower bloom as well. That's another BIG reason for doing it, but not all Hoyas can be sunstressed.

You know, I really should have addressed that issue in the video since it's a fairly common issue people experience. When that happens it's usually a moisture related issue, meaning maybe you went a little too long between waterings, or maybe you watered again too soon, or maybe the humidity was too low (though in my personal experience it's usually one of the first two things and not humidity but my humidity stays above 40% on its own during blooming season). Interestingly, I actually have the same issue for the same reason sometimes with just the leaves on my begonia maculata. They start coming in and then just fall off before fully unfurling (she's beautiful but she can be so temperamental sometimes, lol).

This is absolutely fantastic information! Thank you- I’m kind of new to all this so this was so helpful. Glad you cat is doing better. I just rescued a 4 week old kitten two days ago - he’s so tiny that he can sit easily in one hand-if he could sit still that long. Quite small compared to your big guy! Is he a Maine Coon?

So I know you’re not fully caught up on recent videos, but unfortunately Toby passed away back in May. I miss him tremendously, but two new cats have found their way into my life to try and help fill the void. I’m pretty sure Toby was 90 something percent Somali cat though.

So glad Toby is healing. Thanks for the update. I was excited to see a hoya care video, because I've been wondering about something my Hoya australis has going on with a few older leaves. I put many of my houseplants outdoors for the summer, including the Hoyas I have--the australis and two wayetii. I water everything from the hose and it never seems to cause a problem; everybody thrives. Then we got a very rainy period and I didn't have to water for at least two weeks. Now, I see that there are some leaves on the australis that have developed a grayish-white margin. Not spots, not variegation and only on a few of the leaves. Just the margin turned grayish-white. It's very weird. I haven't been able to find a reason for it, so I'm going to chalk it up to tap water. Any thoughts?

First of all, congratulations on the rain and please send some of that this way, lol (my flowerbed plants are seriously struggling due to lack of rain, watering restrictions, and the triple digit heat). So without actually seeing a picture of the plant, what you're describing actually sounds like botrytis, which would also make sense if the leaves were getting wet for a more extended period of time than they're normally used to.

@@AlohaPlantLife when it rains it pours around here. I live close to Chicago, so we pay for our summers with SNOW! I hate snow. I did take all of the affected leaves off. Damp and wet could well lead to botrytis. Good call!
