I studied in 3 schools from 1956-65 & lived with my second Mom in Tai Hang Road. I love the ' Ding Ding ' & would take a ride every time in Hong Kong (HK) after 1971 when I started my career in Thailand. HK is my second home to Bangkok & I shall visit in November 2024 for my DBS Class of '64 's 60th Reunion. ALL THE BEST TO HONG KONG!

Thats awesome! I love reading stories like this, feels visceral. Thanks for sharing! Lots have changed in HK but largely remains the same. See for yourself next year 🙂
Yet another facet of this city of which I was unaware. As if I didn't have enough reasons to want to visit... not there are these lovely double-deckers I have to ride! Sign me up.

oh, I had a look at BEST buses and they do look and sound the same! interesting
2:30 that is insane, they're still running the trams during construction / renovation. Great efficency. In my country they'd shut down the whole line for 1 month to repave that section.

you're right! you'll see a lot of roadworks in HK but gov't puts a great deal on people and goods mobility so its rare that transit operations are halted for these roadworks.

Yeah, we need to do that like that in Europe too, here in Czechia some tram or train rails are shut down for weeks or months or it's going only on one rail instead of 3 and very often you don't see anyone working there or you see 1 person working and another 5 people watching him 😀 But I would say these reconstructions in cities are planned pretty well, problem is with big trains manager by company which owns train trails in most of the country, sometimes it feels like they don't know what they are doing, but in Prague it's pretty efficient, I remember few years ago, there was a ship as replacement for not working tram because it was next to river, that was really cool, people were riding there just to have a free ship ride. 😀

I was somehow expecting way heavier car traffic. Was this video shot on a bit quieter day or time perhaps?

Yes, so observant! 😄
@planetX15
9 ай бұрын
It didn't, have a closer look and you'll see that it was red/amber as the tram was approaching the traffic lights, that indicates "get ready to go" so the tram is in the clear, the driver will not receive a fine in the mail, if it was a full red light, yes, different story

@@planetX15 If you have even closer look, you will see that the traffic light you are referring to is green for right turn only, but is red for all other directions.

And it's streetcar not tram
@walkinginhongkong

I'm not familiar with the differences of the two but in my mind, streetcar, tram and even trolley are sort of interchangeable. Hong Kong calls it tram. Would love to hear how you would differentiate them :)
