Complete Han in Carbonite Build Tutorial by zenix Custom3dstuff

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is a very detailed video showing every step I took to build an extremely accurate replica of Han Solo frozen in Carbonite from Star Wars. I really hope you enjoy it, learn from it, and maybe even eventually create your own!
I produce most of the parts seen in the video, and you can grab nearly all of what you need for the build at my site, custom3dstuff.com/collections...
I've been working on producing these parts for over a decade to make the build easier and more accurate as more people join the hobby. There's a Facebook group called "HIC Han Solo in Carbonite Build Group" that has a lot of help and a lot of people posting pictures, questions, and answers.
What paint colors should I use?
Colors seen in this build:
Rustoleum Soft Iron Flat for the frame
Rustoleum Universal Flat Antique Nickel Metallic Spray Paint and Primer for Han and Carbonite
Rustoleum Satin Metallic Aluminum for the hero panel
But please pick the colors you like; there's no right answer for this question.
Since I made this video, I've switched to using the brad nailer/staple gun and I much prefer it to the screws/drilling method to build the box frame. I'd recommend that to save time building and patching holes.
I'm using drywall tape now to patch over the puzzle-piece seams half-way up the box as well as the diagonal seam in the four corners.

This is a two part epoxy clay used to patch holes and seams.
Link to Liquid Nails Construction Adhesive: amzn.to/3mDstwV
I use this to attach the Han parts to the box.
I don't sell the actual Han pieces, so you're on your own to find a maker of that, but all other things you need are either at your local hardware store, or in my shop at www.custom3dstuff.com

Happy HiC building!

Aw man, Zenix, its been years since you started business on the RPF and how surprised I was when I saw you appear in that video on IIRC Prusa, for sure more than a decade ago! Good to see you still making stuff!

Great video Todd, thanks for posting this. I picked up your kits and the tips in the video save us first time builders A TON of time. From all the pre drilling, filling tips, to even propping up the panels before you glue on the greeblies so they don’t slide… I really appreciate the monologue in this video man. 👍🏼 cheers

For the panels, I had a second set of completed panels off screen that I was using for reference, and lined all the greeblies up ahead of time to make it go faster.

Fantastic tutorial Todd! See some techniques here that I wish I had incorporated into my own build...might just have to use those if I ever make a second one.

I'm not sure about the exact construction of the panels. The film clearly shows that the right side of the han panel has a display. Do you have an accurate diagram of the panels? if so please give more info. thanks

In the master greeblies pack listing on my website custom3Dstuff.com, there's a whole bunch of reference pics. You're talking about panel #5, the one next to his right ear, and it's an alternate panel. It only lights up in one scene. Some people do that as displayed

Hello, i just have a quick question regarding the Han Solo cast. How heavy is the cast alone? I'm planning to put it on my wall, but I'm not sure how much it weighs because i heard that it is made of fiberglass.

It depends who you get the cast from and how thick, but the wood is like 30-40 pounds the cast is around 10. The whole thing all built is probably 65 pounds or so, depending how you reinforce it. You definitely want to hang on studs. Most people use a French clear system which you can buy or just rip a 2x4 at an angle and make it yourself.
