    Nice! It's good to see someone who appreciates more than just the meat. My wify and I do something similar. They are beautiful shells.

    I used to just dunk them for 20-30 seconds in a mix of half water/half muriatic acid. Less scrubbing, but you run the risk of pitting the shell. Anyone should use Long Chemical gloves and a respirator and cover up so no splashes. That muriatic acid is Wicked Stuff, shell dust is pretty nasty, too. Nice Ab shells, where do you dive?

    observation, constructive criticism. why not use a bucket filled with the acid and dunk the shell and rise with other bucket filled with water vs rising and it going to the dirt, won't it contaminate ground ? plus you won't be wasting the acid and can reuse acid. lucky i saw your video because i was starting to grind it without mask. i was being guinea pig. Big Thank You for the safety first before 14 yr old daughter gets her hands dirty. *i Like, OLE'!* 💃

    Red abalone are the only ones legal to take. In Northern California all the ones you see are red.

    I have a wonderful shell that I found while working and the inside is full of barnacles and worms. Can this method be used for the inside as well or is there another way?

  • @WildernessMedic

    @WildernessMedic

    3 жыл бұрын

    It will take a lot of work but if you really want to clean it up I’d say chip off all the barnacles by hand. The amount of acid to remove it from the inside would surely mess up the mother of pearl on the inside.

    Don’t worry about the color. Sand paper will work great to ring it out. Wet sand it with water.

    No, haven't had the desire. I like the natural look of the shell, and since I keep them inside there's no reason to protect it with spray.

    So I’ve put it on some of my shells and love it. Mostly because they don’t get dusty and loose their shine with it. However I’ve heard after a while it turns yellow so I haven’t put it on all of them
