Complete Disaster - My Welsh Pickup Truck Delivery Went Wrong!

I wanted to take you along for a beautiful scenic journey to Bala, in Gwynedd, Wales - but instead I only got as far as the M25! Here’s what happened. Not everything goes according to plan when you’re working as a trade plate driver, and I hope this slightly shorter video gives you an idea about what it’s like trade plate driving and delivering vehicles all across the UK. Thank you for joining me!

    The depot looks like it's in a very scenic part of the country based on your videos.

    I'm sure this wasn't what's known as a Friday Afternoon Fraud, where it's hard to check payment status before banks reopen the following week.

    The MG at Cobham services is actually an MGC, some would say this is the overweight cousin of the B, it's 3 litre 6 cylinder engine adding weight and spoiling the handling.

    6:58 I used to drive for a living. Looking at that slow moving traffic on the motorway filled me with depression. I don't know how I stood it for three decades. I work locally now and driving distance is a last resort to me nowadays. Loved the classics. made me feel old though lol

    Trade plate drivers are not allowed to call off a delivery unless the vehicle is unroadworthy for a reason.. The company are the only people who can abort a delivery ... OK ! In this case there were circumstances ref the monies being transferred but the company must be the people to abort the delivery. As a driver, you do what you have to do, and that's drive..(I fully accept that your company may allow you to make decisions but if I'd done that I would have no job the following day.. However, I applaud you for not going any further because you needed to get back, hopefully you got paid for the trip (an abort as we call it) so that would be full expenses and the mileage or hours. I really an loving your videos ... I loved being a TP driver. Just a shame the money isn't better

    You're right... however! On this occasion I was in contact with TMC and we were already becoming aware we might have to abort. As I was the one who knew about journeys/timings etc, it made sense for me to decide when we'd passed the point of no return!

    Cool video.. I had one of them days yesterday where it cost me £40 plus around £40 in fuel and for nothing.. On Saturday afternoon I bought an Astra Bertone 1.8 Convertible to possibly use for spares. Basically I required the rear bumper £60 and a full leather interior with heated seats £140 and a drivers door mirror casing £45 that totals £245 so when guy said have whole car for £250 I was so happy. Been waiting so long for these parts to improve my own 52 plate Bertone 2.2 engine car, But this years MOT on my own Astra cost me £830. heavily spent on it already. My rear quarter panel needs a bit of paint but with all the parts in colour it really saves me a bit. Even the spares car could earn me cash. Please if you know someone with car trailer in Bristol or South Wales could you let me know. I don't have a tow bar on any of my cars but sure would be handy..

    I have a question about trade plates are you supposed to attach to them to the existing plates?

  • @tradeplatetravels

    @tradeplatetravels

    No you don't specifically have to attach them to the existing plates - they shouldn't obscure the existing plates either.

    If you ever visit Sheffield VW Van Centre, ask the manager about the story of their driver who, whilst driving a VW Transporter down a major road, was side swiped by a lady motorist pulling out of a side street. She only damaged his front wing, but because he'd put his trade plate in the front window (as most of us do), everything beyond that wasn't insured. So she didn't have to pay a penny, in fact I believe they had to pay for her damages too. A lesson for all of us, and it takes a good lawyer to point that one out .....probably Alex Ferguson's!

    Hi there ive just started watching you videos today.I have been looking at jobs and seen a couple for trade palte driving im recently coming from been disabled for 5 year.This seems like a job i could do and enjoy but i have a family my wife works and i was wondering if the wages or ok. Ive seen alot offering £500 a week but do you get that or can you earn more?

  • @tradeplatetravels

    @tradeplatetravels

    3 ай бұрын

    The main thing to remember is that wages go up and down significantly every week, because the amount of work is not guaranteed. You might be able to get £500+ in a week sometimes, but that would be very long hours I'd imagine! Other weeks you could get less. It's also worth checking to see if you get paid by the hour, or by number of miles driven. By the hour is better because you'll still be earning as you travel between different jobs, or if you get stuck for hours in traffic!

    Well of course its not really legal although of course I expect the chances of being stopped are small. The company I work for doesn't allow it, but then attaching to the outside is a faff which is why I just do jobs that don't need trade plates now.

    If a vehicle is on trade plates any other registration plate is considered not legal. The plate needs to be affixed to the front and rear most parts of thr vehicle being delivered. If a trade plate is not placed thus, the driver cam be prosecuted for displaying a non conformist reg plate. ANPR cameras pick up the reg plate not the trade plate in the window. So you can get points on your licence for getting it wrong. The company or if you are the legal owner of the trade plate should know this. You need to make sure the plate covers completely the original plate as you are the driver and you are solely responsible for your actions. If you get stopped with a dodgy tyre (for instance) that to you looks legal but actually isn't or you break down because you run out of fuel ..your trade plate won't cover you in this event. Every driver I see has their plate in the window. But it's not legal. I delivered many "blue light!" vehicles and we had to put up signs telling road users etc that the vehicles being driven were not being used in an emergency situation and were therefore not able to stop at incidents and assist in any way. It's the same for TP drivers..Stay legal at all times.
