Compilation of Cold Starts, 4BT Cummins & a School Bus Fleet

Experiencing unusually cold weather early January 2014 as over night temperatures dipped down into the single digits I and my fellow coworkers scattered around the county at 4AM cranking up the school busses to insure they did crank, and were warm for picking up the children during the Bus routes. It is unusual we have temperatures this cold around this part of the country, we wanted to make sure everything was up, running, and warm for the drivers, and passangers. I hope you enjoy the starts, included here in are International DT466, Maxforce 7, Cummins 5.9, andf 6.7, Mercedes Benz, and Caterpillar.

    They all have their own issues, Cummins biggest draw back seems to be oil leaks, but by far I rather work on them. Cummins engines are laid out much nicer with the servicer in mind. Benz is a nightmare on some work.

    RedDodge1968 well our oldest Cummins are 2009 so not that old, but they seem like solid motors minus turbos going bad. Every once in a while a International or Mercedes blows up with around 150k and both lose a lot of power around 100k so I think it's a wash. Caterpillar always have issues.

    Good video of the starting of the busies. Do you have to start up each bus every morning during the winter like early morning to get the busies all warmed up.? And how loud do the engines get after each and every bus is running.?

    It looked like at least one bus had a pressure gauge for an air tank, so I'm guessing at least a few run air brakes. Did any of them get their tanks bled to remove water before the freeze? And did you run into any air line issues?

  • @RedDodge1968

    @RedDodge1968

    10 жыл бұрын

    In our system drivers are required to bleed the air system down before leaving the bus after their route but they don't do this via the drain valves on the tanks. We rarely have issues with moisture in the systems, even with the humidity in the area the air driers, seem to do their job.

  • @RedDodge1968

    @RedDodge1968

    8 жыл бұрын

    The blue bird visions are available with a lot of different engine options. They are nice buses but I do not like the drivers compartment. The steering wheels are too small, and the drivers compartment is pretty cramped.

  • @cspennington12

    @cspennington12

    8 жыл бұрын

    From what other drivers have told me the drivers compartment isn't meant for big people. No offense to anybody. You guys have any 2015/2016 models? Oh and a question do you think you could do a video on a 2008 Bluebird Vision? Like a test drive and review sort of thing? Nobody out there on KZread seems to want to do a review walk around and test drive. Figured I'd ask you since you work at a bus fleet. RedDodge1968

  • @cspennington12

    @cspennington12

    8 жыл бұрын

    BTW the Vision that you started in this video was using a Volvo designed steering wheel and speedometer. I like the 2008 to 2010 models for that reason particularly. I also like them because they are fast. Until 2014 came along. They dropped down to a max engine rpm of 2100 rpm. Go to *****'s channel and see his 2015 Bluebird Vision take off. It should have a name that says "148 - Take off (0-55)." The 2008-2010 models can go up to 2600 rpm. And that is what makes them a fast bus. Also it don't take much rpm to get the max torque out of the engine. 1600 rpm I do believe. RedDodge1968
