This was a lot better than the Hakuba broadcast! It didn't feel nearly as rushed between riders, no skips over delays for lost skis etc, better use of camera angles, etc... Better commentating too. I like Loraine and, but she does need some practise in the commentating booth. Derek brings a lot more insight and energy right now. I really liked the forerunner POV and the interviews! But please don't slide them into timeslots where they don't make sense - like Reine referencing Turdell's run before it had been shown. Thanks for hearing our criticism and improving the format!

Dear FWT: You guys seem to be pretty responsive to suggestions so I'll venture one: Take a page out of the early NFL. When the NFL was a niche sport that no one really followed, ABC launched monday night football and eventually put Howard Cosell in the main booth spot. HC is credited with making the NFL understandable and "rootable" to the casual fan. If you're content marketing to the converted, by all means keep doing that. But if you want to draw more fans to the FWT -- including people who don't ski (yet) -- then you have to do a bit more putting of the hay where the horses can get it. I'm a skier and I understand freestyle terminology pretty well. But if I just listen to the announcers on this program I would think every skier had a podium run unless they crashed. The role of the sports announcer should be to draw the viewers' attention to the things that make a difference and guide their spectating so they can think along with the judges -- in addition to simply being awed by the skill and daring these men and women display. As they've indicated, the announcers have no idea what the judges are looking at -- it's all a big, stupid, mystery. If you want to draw more people in (and explain to the already-in why certain things go counter to intuition) then the announcing team has to be that guide. But they can't guide us if they're in the dark, too. Skier visits are stagnant, new skier starts are down. If you want to help lead a resurgence (and thereby expand your market) then you have to market to people outside the core following. The core isn't leaving -- we love this shit. But even we're in the dark half the time. This sport is inherently and obviously awesome. A more tactical approach to the booth will help make it comprehensible and consistent.

One thing I'm convinced of the more I watch these is that this is really a popularity contest. The judges have their mind made up who they like going in and no amount of skill, or ability of having an awesome run is going to change that.

Ayana definitely should have won for the women. Its silly to dock her for hitting that shark at the top. She didn't lose control and handled it smoothly. She skied the rest of the venue fast and smooth and took the last air bigger IMHO

Turdell's line was simply commanding. Confidence embodied. How do you give bilous a friggin' 60? You don't have to put him in the chair, but that's insulting. And YU SASAKI!! WTF -- hope he checked his luggage. Agreed that judges just deducted line scores just for selecting the Alaska zone. Why have it if you're going to punish blind like that? Agreed with what others have pointed out regarding relative risk/reward between the ski men/women and the women snowboard field. It's like a totally different sport and I don't know why that is -- the talent is out there. Would love to see what the guys could do with a clean, unscrubbed/bombed face.

The judging was really weird and incosistent in this one tbh. For example Elisabeth Gerritzen coming after Hedvig Wessel with basically the same line but less airs and getting third by a big margin while Hedvig is last? Also you guys need to do something about the snowboard women. They are getting equal price money now while having like 20 riders less than ski men and they are doing pretty much no airs and sliding through features thus destroying the snow for every rider afterwards. I think the only real trick so far was that no risk 180 in Hakuba? Either up the quality and competition, less price money or just cut it alltogether.

Oh I am happy for them. Traveling the best ski regions and getting paid while doing stuff that I see on every local hill is great for them. Ski men and women are both going fast and big, snowboard men is stylish and playful. There are I think 4 riders counting out the wildcards in the snow women field and the only thing Marion needs to do is riding down the hill semi fluid and she has an easy W because of how bad the level is. Now the Fwt isn't very transparent with how the pricing works but assuming you need to get top 3 to get a significant amount of price money means the snowboard women a basically guaranteed to win big while in the ski men field you need to beat 20 guys who are risking their damn lifes. And that is fair?
