Competing In My First 10K Race

Welcome to my very first 10K race! Despite completing ultras, marathons and half-marathons, I've never actually started a 10K race. This race in the historic market town on Newbury in South England certainly wasn't personal best territory. Described as "undulating" and "multi-terrain", the first 2K has a short, sharp incline, followed by a descent onto the trails. The scenery was beautiful throughout, taking in the waterways, trails, woodland and back into the historic town itself. The crowd and support was amazing throughout making this a thoroughly enjoyable 10K for beginner runners and veteran 10K runners alike.
This would make a great tune up race for anyone doing a trail half-marathon or marathon.

Glad you enjoyed our race (I’m a member of the race organisers at Newbury Athletic Club). I even made an appearance handing you a energy bar at the finish. 😂 Thanks for supporting and publicising the race on your channel.

Ah, glad you got to see it! It was a great race, really enjoyable and I liked the mixture of terrain. Thanks for organising and supporting the race - please feel free to share it with your clubmates; I'm sure lots of members can spot themselves! I'm just down the road in Sandhurst and we have a monthly evening 10k held in Yately - it's meant to be a good midweeker 😊
Isn't it funny how overlooked the 10k distance is in general! Great job out there Ian! Looks like a great course!

Yeah, I guess people tend to go for the longer distances for the challenge, but it's a hard distance to be on the rivet for for that long!
Great Racing on a very hot day. the race looks to be a good one. need to look into doing this one next year :)

Nice!! Never knew Newbury had a 10k..looks like a gd crowd. I’ve got the Yateley 10k series starting next week..goal for this year = complete a series!

Ah, nice. That's a local one for me, so hopefully I'll be able to do at least one in the series. Newbury was great, not quick, but a really nice course and great support!

Incredible performance - 44 mins is a stonking time still. I’m doing my first 10k race soon and I’m a bit pensive about being too slow - I’m definitely going to be in the realms of 60-65 mins. But can’t wait!

Hi Josh, 60 minutes is a great time to shoot for for a first 10k. I started in the 70s when I began running so please don't be worried about being slow. Getting out there on the start line is the most important thing!

Isn't it such a gorgeous time of year to be out on those trails along the waterways?!!! Many of my local trails are a bit overgrown right now, but good training anyway when the conditions are slightly tougher. Last week I ran the famous Voie Verte de Bourgogne Sud, an 80km bitumen cycle path through the Burgundy wine country in France ... just magical!!! I've got my first 50k ultra in Paris in less than 2 weeks now, AND a local trail HM a week after that! So I'm gonna head out right now to totally smash my month volume PB of 518km as I'm already on 511km with 2 days to go!!!! Life is soooo good running strong injury free!!! 😁😁💪🏻🏃🏻♀💪🏻🙋🏻♀

@@markg99 THANKS so much Mark!!!! Yes now just gotta nail this taper, something I usually don’t do well!!! Fortunately Brodie Sharpe did a video especially on his Run Smarter channel recently, so no excuses now!! Running 27km with 400m gain today in the green green forest was my last big foray I guess!! 👍🏻🏃🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️

I think I'd like to enter a fast course for a time...maybe get a little bit more under the 40 minute mark!
Even I've done more 10k races than you mate. What you been messing about at? 😂 Don't do any more though, or we'll be neck and neck!
