Comparison: Berg Larson, Retro revival Fla., Morgan Fry Lg. Chamber, Ted Klum London

I just acquired a vintage Berg Larson refaced to 110/2 by Doc Tenney, a fantastic Morgan Fry Rhodium Large Chamber 8*, and have added my other favorites to the mix… a great playing off the shelf Retro Revival Florida Super D 8, and a spectacular bare brass (with my antiqued finish) Ted Klum London Precision 8. In this recording I’m playing all 4 played using the same Ishimori Woods-tone 3 reed, back to back 8 bars each for two choruses, then a 3rd chorus only on the Morgan Fry Rhodium Large Chamber - which I’m currently feeling has all the power and projection of the Klum London but has a less harsh sizzle and a rounder bottom end. That said, I think the Berg and the Retro revival Florida have more mid range grit, which comes through on the recording, but are not as good for hearing myself on stage in amplified settings.
