crazy a hummingbird can live for 10-12 years with such a fast heartbeat.
My heart rate goes up a lot when I see there's a new RED SIDE video! I can hear all of the blood spurting around in my head right now. Excellent work as always sir.

Some of these aren't heartbeats anymore. They're vibrations.
The shorter and more active the animal is, the faster it's heart beats. That is the rule of life.

More active humans have slower heart rates than inactive humans. 70 would be considered high for an athlete. 55-60 would be RHR, and would most likely be in the 40’s while sleeping.

Yep, because 1500 bpm is 25 Hz (25 beats per second) and the lowest frequency humans can hear as sound is 20 bpm. Hence, a blur of beats that fast will sound like a low note. Also, just for comparison, the lowest note on a piano, an A 4 octaves below middle C, is 27½ Hz.
Fun fact: The shrew has approximately 7 heart attacks per hour.

9 billion heart beats for a parrot!! Thats like living 9 lifetimes!
I think it's kinda sweet that (big) dogs and humans have such a similar heart rate
That was so simple, as far as being able to show the differences, and I'm sure not easy work to put together. Just to clarify, simple does NOT mean easy to do or uninformative.... it was awesome! Keep it up!!! ❤

Etruscan shrew: heart rate go brrrrr
I want to be a hibernating groundhog with a heartbeat of 20 bpm, all curled up in a ball, and wake up after 50 years.
Didn't expect birds to be on the top and definitely didn't expect a shrew to be 25Hz.
Like your vids, good job. Suggestion how about a video on things into the smaller scale
I suspected this would get ridiculous toward the end and it did not disappoint. 😀 I thoughts bats would be way up there though

Found the giraffe’s HB the oddest being so high for a large animal. Guessing because of the long neck to deliver blood.

@@weakw1ll some can be big and fast, but mostly bigger=slower. consider humans run at a speed of around 10km/h and ants at around 1km/h. but ants are only about 1mm, so humans are like 2000 times bigger than ants. if the ants kept that speed but with human size, it would be 2000km/h instead of 1km/h. comparing to 10km/h of humans, ants are 200 times faster than humans.

There seems to be an upper limit of heart beats for a lifespan in the few billion. Looks like the canary takes the lead with around 10.5 billion, followed by parrots at 8.8 billion beats, then the hummingbird at just under 8 billion, then crows with 4.3 billion and then humans at 3 billion. I wonder what the average is among all mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians

Only because of technology. In the wild, humans would live about 30-40 years.
Small animal have small hearts and their heart has to beat very fast to supply oxygen rich blood throughout their body while Big animal like Whale and elephant has huge hearts and therefore they beat at a slower rate.
