Best thing that was taught to me and used effectively for cassowaries is picking up a large branch with leaves approx 2m long and holding that in front of you. As they approach or run towards you they get close and hold that distance while you walk backwards to a safer area. They will continue to approach but just hold it to keep that distance. Worked every time (approx a dozen).

For Hornets, if you want to go outside, make sure to not spray perfume, as it will attract Hornets and attack you
