With the farm, it wasn't so much that it looked good at the start, but that it was basically a literal cheat code. It was always a case of, if a new world started, it was a race to get there. Whoever cleared out the corn field got an instant advantage for having essentially unlimited food for the wipe while everyone else had to focus more of their scavenging on it.

Are you talking in multiplayer? That would make sense! Were there any other locations that were best for early starts?

I much preferer the tailored experience or dungeoneering as you call it, each poi is unique and a fun mini mission, much better than just finding the same old rooms and stuff in every building

Fair enough! I do enjoy the feeling at first. But eventually the constant locked doors and maze like experience is just a little funky. I do like it to an extent though

I jumped in at Alpha 15, I believe. I still prefer that, perhaps only because it's where I was introduced. Maybe 17. I dislike the dungeoning, as you mentioned, but also how EVERY. SINGLE. ZOMBIE. is now a jump scare; hiding in closets, hiding behind water heaters, hiding in attics waiting to fall through rotten ceiling tiles, etc. I remember a day when you could actually sneak through and snipe them while they slept. Now, they auto trigger in a specific range. Boo-urns!

I loved the big open building interiors, particularly the industrial ones. Feels sorta realistic in that I could imagine just finding a big industrial complex and setting up shop there in a 'real' zombie apocalypse, as opposed to the dungeon-style buildings with a linear path to follow guided by convenient flashlights, which involve too much gutting to be something you can turn into a base. TFP seem to want to encourage building your own base from scratch, but I loved going into a house and sprucing it up and fortifying it.

On the whole I prefer the new stuff. A lot of the early stuff just kinda look like minecraft houses. They feel super empty to me. It WOULD be nice to have a few more 'level 0' POIs, however. Just to use as base templates, not EVERY building needs to be a labyrinth. But ultimately, a lot of the old designs makes things look like it's day 1 of the apocalypse, and not far into it at all. Everything looks so pristine and empty.

man these improvements "look" impressive. but then you remember that they worked on this game for 11 freaking years since then... putting that into perspective, it's really damn underwhelming.

yes i agree its better to have more building and less meticulously designed dungeons. feels more realistic and i am firmly a survival biased player when it comes to 7dtd. i dont mind a bit of dungeon and designed pois but i would rather have many many more different pois, or even random generated ones than much fewer and more "designed" ones. I know 7dtd cant be as uniquckly generated as minecraft is, yet, but move a bit closer to that would be nice. I want to be lost in the world and having to explore it for the first time as much as possible. which is the most indeering aspect of minecraft imo. still prefer 7dtd to mc overall though, unless we talk some modded survival mc, but the graphics in 7dtd and especially the physics systems and mobs are just infinetely more enjoyable imo.

@@ExotiKGaming ohhh yeah that could be it. I was trying to get it to run through Steam, I don't have the Kickstarter exe. From what I've been able to tell, it has something to do with how later versions of the game use a registry key, but I changed what people said to change and it didn't work.

Maybe the art style has changed as American cities have turned post-apocalyptic from all the woke zombies both on the streets and in power turning them into hellscapes. You find easy samples of what you would want to put in a zombie game just looking around San Francisco or NYC.

To me is like they quickly slapped bunch of things together with less detail and more empty rooms, trees and water edges look same as in minecraft. I call B.S. on that. 🤔👎
