Not so great unless you live in a warm area with well maintained roads. Little rock chips and scratches are hell on the paint and they are very noticeable.

TR Hamza you chose right. Something about golf's makes them seem like they're designed to a budget. Apart from the seats the Audi seems like a nicer place to be in, more premium IMO. Thanks for the comparison.

You need to let your friend know the national speed limit for single lane carriageways is 60mph, not 70. Nice R, but the S3 is better - except for the Alcantara seats! I'd take them over leather any day.

MRP Cars Thanks for the offer mate. Did test drive one at Motorpoint Birmingham but unfortunately it was the basic model and manual not the dsg. Will wait and save a bit more to get a fully loaded one and with dsg as got a S4 auto at the moment.

Always preferred the S3 for the interior, but the lack of side support is really bloody annoying, even with the upgraded seats. Now I'd take the 7.5R without question with the new cockpit. Also those suede looking seats look incredible. Great review 👍🏼

Thanks mate 👍🏼 Yeah the S3 seats are really not up to the job when its comes to spirited driving, its a shame. The 7.5 R is definitely a nice place to be now. S3 still does have more of a luxury feeling though I will admit.

Both cars are fabulous examples of true sports car driving. The Golf R seems to involve the driver a little more because of the louder exhaust and seats. The S-3 will appeal to the older driver who wants a cachet brand and is moving upward toward a career. They're both fine cars with their own dna and brand identity. It's more of a matter of personal preference with these models, because their quality and performance will never disappoint the driver. Good review and video.

@TR Hamza I have the MY66 S3, I find if you drive for 5 mins or so in comfort setting then move over to dynamic it pops on the down shifts. Sometimes starting off in dynamic it doesn't always bang. Thoughts?

That's exactly how you run in a new car...nice and hard for the first 200 miles to make sure those piston rings seal properly...which in turn produces a more powerful engine...drop the oil and change the oil filter...and carry on driving that car like it was stolen. Great vids @TR Hamza...keep it up bro...waiting for the RS3 and Golf R handling comparison.

very good vids pal. You do it in a good way. Got mk7 r. with Miltek exhuast. prets, limestone grey with oetinger rear spoiler and JB4 . Dino run was an extra 54 bhp and an extra 74 troques. Not bad for a 500 qid plug in. Want more now but will wait till waranty expires in 6 months. Keep up the good work. All the best . Ginger

I really hope we get option of those suede/cloth seats in MK7.5 R in Canada. And a sunroof option please! MK7 was all leather, no roof. The 7.5 refresh looks best on the R IMO. Those new grills and headlights look sharp! I own a 2015 MK7 GTI now.

Man, I am literally being tortured by the fact that I can't afford the new R. I enjoyed this video, despite the fact that I can't get the same options here in the US; love the R rims and color in the UK version. The video in general gives a VERY nice sampling of the R's cabin sound, and I love the sense of the speed in front windows as the camera points at your face. The S3 clips are very nice as well. If I can't afford the R here, I certainly wont be able to afford the Audi - yet it's nice to see the cabin differences. The commentary from both of you was very enjoyable. Either way, thanks for taking me to a nice fantasy world for a few minutes! I currently drive a DSG 2011 GTI right now, and with fairly low mileage, this video's inspired me to take it out and scare the old people in town :)

In the R, when you put race mode, I thought you see a different interface, with figures, maybe because it doesn't come with the discover pro?

If you want more intake noise you should also take off the weather strip (or whatever they call it, you can find it on google)! It makes a bigger difference than the hood insulation.

We have an old Renault Laguna Diesel from 2008 Euro4. So with the new Diesel Scrappage scheme that both Audi and VW are offering as an incentive, we can still get the normal dealer discount and another £4000 on top of the dealer discount, off either a Golf R or S3, this means that we could now get a peasant specced Golf R 5dr for a touch under £26K or an Audi S3 for around £27K, which is nearly £8K discount! This has to be a fantastic deal on either car. On a side note, the Audi scrappage deal and discounts are even bigger for A4's, so with all the discounts and Scrappage allowance we could even get an £50K S4 for only £36K. A £14K discount is pretty amazing.

Slms- i have 2015 s3 sedan revo stage 2 and my best friend has golf 7r with exactly the same mods- he always says the s3 is louder, especially the pops on upshift. I really like the facelift crackle on downshift. These cars move properly with stAge 2(we have cooler intake downpipe software tcu tune 034 dogbone vidi p3 gauge and H&R springs) i have 20inch OZ rims on my car. We def getting ready for stage 3! Really enjoyed the video- from south africa

I'm pretty sure that the torque peak isn't at the max rev that's why it's changing up as you perceive early. It's giving the max performance.

Great video guys, very honest and true. I've tried both, love the Audis interior more, but preferred the R on the road, it feels more nibble and fun! but the new Cupra R feels better again! and cheaper than both. I think the best middle ground is the Golf, but thats just my opinion. Cheers for the reviews!

I was looking to purchase a Golf R Wolfsburg (in Australia is a fully loaded R) after watching your vid but VW had significant delays which forced me elsewhere. This made me chose the S3 instead (White, Black Pack, 19' wheels and Magnetic Ride).... ......and I am glad I did, as it is sensational. Thanks for the review. If you every get around to chipping your S3, I would be keen to know the difference and best options!

apart from noice reduction,i think the insulation under the hood will affect over time the hoods colour because of the extra heat.so make sure u ask an expert.

What sort of petrol do you use? Any performance issues with petrol brands? People say Shell Vpower is the best?

Hi, Hamza great channel. Your road-going performance cars are precision engineered vehicles, how do Audi and BMW perform over 200k miles ie what is the reliability and long term running costs. What's your take on engine oil usage and oil change intervals; turbos are very sensitive to oil quality and heat soak?

TR Hamza, I'm not sure if it is the same on the S3, but with the Golf R you can't rev with the valves open. When you put it in neutral or park it automatically closes the valves, so revs don't sound as good on the R. I have found a way to rev with the valves open, but it only works for about 1 second, enough to get one rev in though

I'm looking at purchasing either a 2018 Golf R or an Acura TLX A Spec. Thoughts?

Lapiz blue has always been a personal favourite of mine 👌🏼 Especially with the new gloss black detailing on the 7.5 bumpers.

looks nice with the pretoria wheels and in a proper grey, that limestone looked brown in some lights. the front of the old one looked more aggressive tho with the double u drl's. hopefully they smash out some £200 a month lease deals so i can jump back in one :)

Both are great cars... maybe the golf owner coulda waited a week or 2 for the performance pack to be released... which gives a stunning akrapovich exhaust system. But still great none the less. Nice rides lads.
