There are two other advantages of ETFs that you haven't quantified: 1. Transaction costs. There is less brokerage on one transaction purchasing an ETF rather than on six individual shares. 2. Administration. The time spent administering dividends and other communications is a lot less for an ETF than individual shares.

Finally, a good Aussie based comparison. I'm loosing dough on paper with AGL too, although i haven't sold it hoping the demerger will double my shares. Thanks mate. Keep up the educational videos coming.

😂, thanks Sanjee, loved your satirical comment re AGL and the forthcoming job offer from Ray. See what happens when AGL does the split. I agree, it’s hard to beat the whole market, ETFs are great and thematics ETFs are really interesting.

I've been burnt by the buy now pay later sector. It's dropped like a rock in the last 12 months. My EFTs, eg. VAS, etc, has kept me fractionally ahead. I'll stick to these for now. In the 18 months I've been investing, I've demonstrated I'm pretty useless at picking winners.

Same story for me. Been in the market since 2015 and had some good wins - BRN at 5c, ALU at $4, BHP at $17 and also some hefty losses APX at $17, NXL at $9 (lol) etc etc. Overall my performance would have pretty much been the same in VAS or IVV. But it would have been more boring!! Seriously though I am probably from here on out going to DCA in to IVV just waiting for an entry point over the next couple months.

I am glad you said that what you were going to say was not financial advice, because that's what you need. 7 trades v 1 trade is stupid. I have 125 trades and spread over companies that have got solid finances, staff, demand and therefore future growth. And I hold physical gold, silver, and set cryptos. Losing a trade is just not in my mind.

@@isaacgilbert4397 Ha Ha Ha !!! You really do think people are stupid. You are just picking other opinions and trying to present them as your own. I feel really sorry for anyone who believes your crap. You demonstrate a complete lack of any knowledge about how to trade, period. And trying to get people to sign up to your "newsletter" actually stinks of a total scam.

Thanks for your insight but you may be inadvertently downplaying the risk factor of the individual stocks. Buying $50k in galaxy will never have the same taste as $50k in VAS. With VAS you can virtually sleep well for the next 10 years and know your original capital will be virtually airtight and have bonus dividends along the way. Galaxy may reach the moon or go down the drain by then or have experienced both along the way. There is a price you pay for stability and everyone will have different ideas of that price. Was your effort and stress holding the individual stocks enough to outweigh the potential gain? Probably not in this specific scenario.
