I'll stick with my Snap-on BP-1 that has worked flawlessly for more years than I can remember and is the one all others are bench marked against. The "C" frame is what counts and anyone that has been around one that explodes will buy the BP-1 and looking at the Matco "C" frame there is a difference. It's not competition until it proves itself!!
Lol, the Matco Frame says OTC on it lol

I noticed this as well. Wonder if you can buy it from otc for half the price.

How embarrassing.... Another "Matco" tool made by someone else... I'll stick with my Snapon...
Nice video. I've had the snapon kit for years. Love it. Nice to see there is competition. Both kits are very good.
Very cool! Wish I could see the Matco x frame in action too! Great video 👍
My bjp1 has served me well over many years. I do like the detent balls on that new design but, probably not enough to spend the money to replace my old tried and true.
Definitely an innovative improvement. Thanks for sharing.
I had the Snap On kit. There wasn’t a vehicle the Snap On couldn’t handle with ease. Thanks for the video.
Absolutely love the Snap-on kit!
Now I have ball joint press envy ,great video
I thought this was about Matco's other ball joint tool. The weird design one.

It sucks
I really like that Matco. Just got a Powerbuilt kit for free, but not sure how long I’ll tolerate the old school setup. And goes without saying, another great vid!
But otc won't warranty the cups snap on warranty everything
Nice, well needed video!!!
Snap-on for the win. I like being abl to clamp in on the bench vise with the flats.
Dealership I work at gets a lot of diesel vehicles in for ball joints. That new Matco heavy duty press make short work of them. It seems to be able to put a lot more pressure that are standard C frame press. Haven't tried it using small adapters from another kit however
great video Sir looks great have a super weekend
I rekon a foam gasket seal might help them with falling off. That flat spot on the snap on one is exactly why I love snap on.
thanks for the review...i just picked up the BJP1 used. I need to order the "repair" kit its like $20 comes with all the retainers and other wearable parts.

Most snapon dealers will warranty the clips
The snap-on comes with extra retaining rings and they warranty everything in the kit. I do like the detent balls if the new otc tool.
I use my Snap On press in a vise for U joints. Works perfect for that!
I like the vise section on snap on for u-joints and for control arm bushings.
That's freaking nice! How many times I wish I had 4 hands, just for this reason. Those cups falling all over the place! But all in all, they are life savers, instead of pulling off an entire control arm, do ball joints on vehicles, etc. But also u-joints and other odds & ends too.
I like the wider c frame design. I love the Snapon ball joint press and it looks like otc did their homework. I wonder if they will release it as their own tool one day for a little cheaper.
@mikey4016

The C-frame is wider to accommodate the extra space consumed by the snap-in adapter.
I have the Snapon, it does some heavier stuff 2500 3500.. it’s an awesome set!!
Is there another one that use a jack screw outside shape like h or x. I thought Matco and mueler kreupp???? Idk
It stamped right on the tool OTC, with a Matco sticker on the case. Another marked-up re-branded Matco tool, just like that Matco side ball joint press that came out last year which is made by Schley Products.

It's made by OTC but exclusive to Matco. It's going tp be a long time before we can order the kit from Amazon.

BlindBatG34 that depends, the length of the exclusivity deal is usually based on sales volume.

@@jfantis The Matco prices are so high. Matco # BJPXR9 $879.95 and Matco # BJP18100 $729.95 These sets have few adapters for the price and you need to buy OTC Master Adapter sets. Compare to just buying OTC # 6559 for $727.00 with 77 adaptors. You also buy OTC # 8031 Jeep/Chrysler Master Ball Joint kit for $301.00 which comes with a large C-Frame and uses all the 77 adapters from OTC # 6559.

@@JohnSmith-ud4qc the BJP 18100 is made by Schley but Matco has an exclusive on it until 05/2021
Wish they made these for motocross/enduro bikes the shock heim joint and linkage (when redoing those). Thinking that MATCO could work for that function and the adapter stays in place does not fall off.
As soon as otc starts selling that Marco kit under their name at a much cheaper price I will be buying it for sure until then I’m stuck with my otc master kit
As of now I believe the snap on is best, I believe the quality is in the super sturdy C frame. I agree the adapters fall off still but they do hold as long as you don’t bang it around.
Is the throat larger? It looks like you loose a lot with the snap in adapter.
I thought you were going to review the other new Matco ball joint tool.
Will snapon not replace the rings as they wear out?
Snap on Snap Rings can be replaced if the adapter is loose, they are cheap to replace
Do u still use ur ball joint alot an should I buy a schley one?
Doing alot of Jeep ball joints, I find that the bjp1 can be a little difficult to work with especially on stock suspension. The c is a little too big at times and an open end wrench is the only option. So matcos bigger c would be more of a down fall for me
Can u do one with matco and the other side with snap on that’s the only way to pair the 2
Lmao I know everyone knows it’s rebranded but did the have to leave the giant otc on it
@mylarhyrule3752

jason wonder if that means Matco will warranty an otc set from eBay.... $400 is a better price, especially if warranty is same
Do they make adapter for a ram 5500
i love options.
First ball joint press I would recommend buying over a cheap harbor freight one. Looks like a lot better design.
Snap on clamp system might not seem better then the matco. But when you’re working on bigger trucks and need to have the cup in place before the C-clamp, the matco one won’t be able to perform like the snap on in tighter areas.
I most definitely need to step my ball joint press game up I have that same exact OTC set up . I understand this very clearly Great Video Flat Rate 👍
Should've commented when I first watched the video; I don't know if many people will see this now. Do you have a recommendation on a little more economical press? I have an 05 ram dually and I want something that is big enough to replace the u joints with adapters and everything. I borrowed one from o'Reilly's to do it (kind of a quick fix after one blew out) and it had enough space in the throat to reach around the u joint without the adapter cup in, but with it in place wouldn't fit around it. Unfortunately $800 tools are a little unrealistic for me at the moment, but I'm saving quite a bit by doing it myself instead of taking it to a shop, so I don't mind at all spending a hundred bucks or whatever for the right tool.

@@flatratemaster thank you so much for the quick reply man! I looked at your Amazon store list thing, and both of the ones in that still only have a 6 inch inner dimension throat, which isn't enough when using adapters. Do you recommend the 78100 XL C frame? If that's my best option, would you get just a set of adapters like the 7868, or a full set like the 7897 for another press as well?
Me being a backyard mechanic, non of these apply. My princess auto special does the job. If the ball joint goes in straight a princess auto/harbour freight press will do the trick. Keeping your threads lubed will make it last.
For Honda, ball joint press is life. Its on the upright.
If you work on 4500/ 5500 Ram trucks, have to go with the Snappy. OTC does make adapters for the US truck guys.
It looks good but $100 more than Snappy? Really Matco? We all complained that the BJP1 was awesome but expensive so you came out with an even more expensive kit to compete? You just made SO look like a better value!
@michaelmcgregor3108

If you get the adapter add on kit for the bjp1, then the Matco is cheaper.
Looks killer! Like you I mostly use them on trucks, most of the cars get their control arm replaced!
I've used my balljoint press for everything but balljoints
I love(d) my snap on ball joint set but I had 40k in tools stolen so I've been looking at some alternatives that I can maybe save a little money since my insurance basically told me to kick rocks I'm thinking I may just bite the bullet again and but another snapon master set but I'd really love to see input from you and everyone in comment section too thx
Otc one will wear out too
The matco one is obviously made by otc!!!! It’s written on it!!! Must be a good product!!!! Keep up the good work mike!!
Use the snappy on the vice a lot
That's a nice tool. It's two pricey for the amount of ball joints I do. I guess I will keep getting it done with my Maddox. Maddox - Just enough tool to make you MAD.
Next do one on the cornwell, the harbor freight press painted blue with sticker on it
Price??
now that I think about , I hardly do ball joints

I have used the mac tools kit for over 20 years. Suspect it is otc rebrand. Matco set looks awesome.
MATCOS BJP18100 MAKES STUFF SO MUCH EASIER AND GETS IT DONE FASTER
Them snapon rings are replaceable when worn out
As these ball joint press tools become closer to obsolete they get better and better. Odd.
Never used one of these tools for ball joints.... they do have a million other uses for on-vehicle press jobs.
You keep saying matco but it clearly has otc stamped on the press.

c frame bigger i like that
just drill and tap for a zrker
this tool is 10 years too late, as the 90s honda captured rotor hub remover lol
Let's see, more money for a slave-labor tool, versus less money for an American made, heavier duty tool. I think I'd rather have an occasional cup knocked off and not support slavery. That retention system does look better, but it also takes up more space and the whole tool needs to be bigger to make up for that, which means it will be even more difficult to fit in tight spots and I don't even know how the usable throat capacity compares.
Are you now shilling for Matco? That set is $100 on amazon from OTC. $850 from Matcrapco. Matco is the worst tool company ever --- because they don't make tools. They are literally a middle man. Why spend $200 MORE for the Crapco than the Snap-on kit which is amazing?
My job has the new snap on one broke its 2nd use or 2nd car
U cannot call that matco tool . when on the C frame says OTC. Hahhaha

In my opinion, Matco is superior.
All the snap rings are warranty
