Comparing Amp Sims

Comparing Amp Sims - SIMTEMBER 2023
Its been a crazy month going through a ton of amp sims. I only ended up publishing 13 of these videos but I filmed a few more and tested out even more amp sims.
In this video I break down all the scores and rankings of everything and then talk about the merits of each amp sim.

As someone who recently bought--and then immediately sold--a Tonex pedal, I have to say it does indeed deserve to be near the bottom on this list. It sounds awful.

It’s so hit and miss. I reckon it has potential but I just wasted so much time I don’t care anymore. If it’s not consistent and reliable then I don’t wanna use it

I'd be curious to what you think of the Audio Assault Amp Locker ecosystem and amps, that platform is excellent even with the free version, let alone the relatively cheap amps/cabs/pedals that can be bought additionally. The recent ML Sound Lab ones have also been very solid, too, IMO.

I tried it and didn’t like it honestly. It felt very undergained like I was guessing the input levels needed to hit the amp. I was also trying it in the pit of other amp sims so probably worth a look again. But I just remember thinking it was odd I’ve reached out to ML sound to see if I can get some codes for future reviews because the demos pausing sound makes it brutal to do a video

I had them on my hitlist but their trials have gaps in them which would make filming kind of painful. I'll do some better prep next year and reach out to companies a few months in advanced so managing the licenses is a lot easier for these things But yes I wanted to try a bunch of their stuff! I will probably grab some anyway on Black Friday (especially their 6505+ stuff).

It's ALWAYS funny to HOW many peoples have TONEX ... and how many peoples NEVER miss an opportunity to negatively rank it... It' s almost like ; he IS the plugins that many of us have and enjoy in ""SECRET""... C' mon !!! I have TONEX : NOTHING to envy to STL ... you prefer STL , ok . BUT give a 75 on sound quality to TONEX ... ANS a *** 20 to the user INTERFACE C" MON !!... Honesly it was MORE than UNFAIR . SO, probably you have some money on the side to do this review OR ( AND...) you DOESN" T really KNOW what youre talking about ... SO, on this video you have so far 932 subscriber ( NOT ME... ), and THIS video have 1,6 K Views... : I guest not manys peoples have been ""impress"" with your "partial" point of view...

You've got the conspiracy theory backwards, IK are the ones paying influencers left right and centre to make ToneX packs and sell things through their store! ToneX is fine but the fidelity for high gain tones is not as good as modellers or NAM. There's generally two sides to ToneX... if we're just talking about the software in a computer, I'd rather use NAM or other sims because they factually do high gain better. If we're talking about gigging or band practice then you can afford yourself some leeway there and the tonex pedal with a decent capture and a boost pedal run through a poweramp will sound "fine". Not as good as other modellers or real amps, but its an affordable solution and thats where it shines The UI for the software is complete garbage and pretty much everyone complains about it. I've tried over 30 amp sims recently and yes it IS the worst. No i'm not getting paid by anyone these are my own opinions. At the end of the day use whatever works for you and have fun with it, thats what its all about.
