Comparing 3 different types of acoustic strings on a Taylor 814ce DLX
Музыка
This video compares the $6 D'addario 80/20 phosphor bronze strings with the $11 Elixir nanowebs and the $15 D'addario DS strings. The guitar played is a Taylor 814 ce dlx with v-class bracing. Viewers are encouraged to weigh in on which strings they prefer and why. Been using Elixirs forever since I don't like to change my strings that often, but always open to new options. They sounded best with the strummed open chords (lots of harmonics/overtones which I like), but sounded deader than the 80/20s in the picking example. I'll continue to experiment, but think I'll go with the 80/20s next. Thanks for doing the work so I don't have to restring my guitar 3x times haha.
Thank you, I have a 314ce, I replaced the strings with a pack of Elixr nanowebs that I have had for a decade. Sounds good but not perfect,. Picked up some EJ16's yesterday and am going to swap them out, I will also get some XS and try them. From your video i think Taylor might have made the right decision changing string brands.
XS best Ballance for my ears and tried also on my AD17, gives it a more opened sound compared to the Elixirs that dampened the sound.
Thank you for doing this. I seem to like the sound of the Elixir first the D'Addario phosphor Bronze and then the XS. I have a Taylor Ad17e and have the XS on it now, but will most likely go back to Elixir.
daddario is a great brand with excellent customer service. I'm kind of partial to them. If I go spend more money I usually look for stringjoys for acoustic anyway. Interesting comparison imho.

options 2 or 3 for that taylor is where I would go per what I am hearing through my computer/stereo.
Bit hard to tell on my crappy PC speakers but I usually put the elixirs on my 814. I have tried the XS but I didn't get on with them - thought they were a bit tinny sounding. I often throw on a set Martin SP Lifespan Phosphor Bronze strings. They last for ages & have a more bluesy bass tone which I like. Each to their own though - strings are like beer - it's a personal preference.
I use XS on my 714 because it gets played a lot. The phosphor bronze ones sound good at first but go “off” quite quickly. Also (touch wood) I have yet to break one of the XS strings and they stay bright much longer.
I use the XS on my 814 but bought some String Joys to try out. Want to see what the hype is about. The Dad 80/20 Phosphor bronze sounded pretty good :)

Elixers are horrible. Sap the tone of the guitar. If you want a treated string try Martin 540T or the String Joy treated strings.
