    Hi! Thank you for this great video. Can you help decide between the magenta plus and the cadorna barista? I want to go with the wand so I can get as close as possible to professional machine froth/ micro-foam. This, and getting a high temperature drink are my two priorities. I drink mostly cappuccinos and lattes. Are there any other machines out there with professional wands? Thank you!

    Hi mc, You are welcome. The Magenta Plus and Cadorna Barista are fairly similar in capabilities. Some key differences... The Cadorna has a longer manual steam wand. With the extra length you will not struggle to reach down to smaller amounts of milk in larger frothing pitchers. In my experience the Cadorna produces coffee drinks a slight bit hotter than the Magenta. The Magenta stores one version of each drink while the Cadorna can store 4 custom versions of each drink in the user profiles. The Gaggia Accademia and Babila have a frothing wand in addition to automatic frothing from an attachable mik carafe. I prefer the wands on the Magenta/Cadorna to the shorter stick wands on the other Gaggia machines. Hope that helps! Marc

    Hi guys, appreciate your channel and reviews. I am on the verge of buying one of those machines. A bit hesitating between Magenta Prestige and Codorna Milk... User profiles are not important to me. If you select latte, setup same coffee and milk amount/temperature and use same beans, will you notice any difference in taste/temperature, etc? Also curious about material quality and durability of inside mechanism? Thank you in advance!

  • @Wholelattelovepage

    Hi Sergii, Thanks for the question. The internal components (brew unit) extracting the coffee are essentially identical in the machines. The Cadorna has more precise control of grind size with 10 settings. The Magenta has 5. In my experience the Cadorna produces a slightly warmer drink at high temperature setting. The internal brew unit mechanism is very durable. We get regular reports of 15,000+ brew cycles in machines using this brew unit with routine maintenance of cleaning the group - run under room temp tap water, lubrication of moving parts and an easy to do annual deep cleaning and gasekt replacement. Comparing the matewrial quality of thge 2 machines the Cadorna is a level up from the Magenta with a more solid/premium feel. Hope that helps! Marc

    I’ve had my classic pro for a year now and I haven’t made a great espresso yet and I use it every day I always use fresh ground beans I’ve tried all kinds of different espresso beans. No matter how fine I go with grinding the beans it comes out fast doesn’t matter how hard I temp it. I’ve tried different baskets still the same. Sometimes I get a little cremma I just don’t know what to do any help would be great

    Hi Glen, Thanks for the question and I'm here to help. Producing crema comes down to the right bean, getting the grind size dialed in right and being consistent with other variables. For easy crema production choose a classic Italian style bean blend. Coffees like Lavazaza Super Crema, Maromas Orphea or our own locally roasted Crema Wave are all capable of producing "Crema Buckets". You did not mention what make/model grinder you are using - hopefully a decent burr grinder that allows for very precise changes to grind size. If not familiar with the dialing in process here's video tutorial on that: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nIONmaZpYtGac9o.html I recommend using the double shot non-pressurized filter basket in your Classic Pro. Here's another video showing my complete process making a flat white on the Classic: kzread.info/dash/bejne/kZagm6SqeafVqaw.html The keys to success are good beans, proper grind size and consistency. I've been thinking about moving on from my Gaggia Classic to a Super automatic. In the Magenta or Cardorna, is it possible to grind my own beans on my Sette 270 then put them on the automatic machine to get better tasting espresso or would the grinder in the settings in the automatic machines suffice for espresso and americano drinks?

  • @Wholelattelovepage

    @Wholelattelovepage

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Isaac, Thanks for the question. It certainly is possible to grind your beans separately and use the bypass doser. That said, I do a couple of Americanos everyday on a Cadorna here in the studio. I find the built in grinder does just fine for those and I have no shortage of outboard grinders to choose from. Understand you give up some control going with an automatic machine as compared to a semi-automatic like the Classic. On the flip side you gain a lot of convenience and consistency. Marc

  • @Wholelattelovepage

    Hi SA, Thanks for the questions. All these machine have the same internal brewing mechanism so potential shot quality is the same. the coffee strength range of 1-5 adjust throught the dosing range of ~7 to 11.5g per brew cycle. Set to a strength of 5 you'll get ~11.5g. Choose a 2 cup coffee beverage or a flat white on these machines with that drink available and the machine does 2 grind cycles automatically for a total dose weight of up to 23g. Weights are averages as some beans are denser than others so yeild more weight in a given volume. Hope that helps with your decisions! Marc

    I really like these features, but I'm only hesitant to buy because we are regular iced coffee drinkers here in CA. Without an iced coffee feature, how would you recommend getting a strong, coffee forward iced drink? I normally drink cold brew or shaken espresso and hubby likes iced Americanos.

  • @Wholelattelovepage

    @Wholelattelovepage

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Marcia, There is a Delonghi machine which has an iced coffee function but I'm not a fan. It operates in the same way as other bean to cup automatics but uses a lower internal brewing temperature. The result is under-extracted and sour to my taste. For iced drinks I recommend using bean to cup machines normally and brewing over ice in glass or brewing ahead of time and allowing drink to cool before pouring over ice. With either of those methods you can maintain strength using ice cubes made from coffee if desired. The Jura Z10 is the only bean to cup machine I'm aware which makes a true cold brew using unheated water in the brewing process. It makes cold brew on demand in minutes instead of the 12 plus hours typical of the cold brew process and the flavor is excellent. It's a premium level machine and does all the regular hot beverages plus drinks like espresso, Americanos and more using the cold brew process. Learn about he Z10 as I try those drinks and more in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zp6am9GeqarLn6g.html Marc

    I really like the Cadorna Prestige, because it makes hot milk based drinks. That is why I would choose it over the Jura. The saved user interfaces are not really important to me. What I do really like is the option of the wand with the auto milk container, but just as an option. Does the Babila or Accademia make the milk based drinks as hot as the Cadorna? The hot milk based drink on auto pilot is very important to me!

  • @Wholelattelovepage

    @Wholelattelovepage

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Elise, Milk from the Cadorna is a little hotter than from the Babila or Accademia in my experience. If you like a really hot milk drink then manual frothing is the way to go. Manufacturers design auto-frothing machines to produce milk in the sweet zone of temperature so it rarely exceeds 150F/66C. As you are aware both Babila and Accademia have both a carafe and manual wand for milk. If you want hotter milk drinks without the manual frothing then the Cadorna is the way to go Marc

  • @Wholelattelovepage

    @Wholelattelovepage

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Kara, Thanks for the question. I'm at least 50% Americanos for daily coffee consumption. I use the Gaggia Cadorna for those at work. The lowest priced Magenta does them as well and there's no difference in quality between the 2 as internal brewing is identical for all practical purposes in those machines. If you have multiple people or want to save multiple versions of a given drink go with the Cadorna. If it's just you or you and someone who drinks the same drinks the Magenta has you covered. As for milk drinks it comes down to how you want to prepare them. If it's pull the milk carafe out and push a button and machine does the rest go with either of the Prestige models. If you want to froth for yourself and maybe go to latte art quality the Magenta Plus or Cadorna Barista Plus are the way to go. The Jura D6 is an older model - You get more for your money with the Gaggias. Marc

    Hi AR, Thanks for the comment and question. On these (and most other) Gaggia machines the maximum coffee dose per grind cycle is ~11.5g. On these machines if you want a true contemporary style double shots it's best to program a single shot to produce a liquid volume in your cup of 20-30ml. Then select 2 cups when you make your espresso and the machine will grind and brew 2x automatically resulting in a total coffee dose of 12-23g depending on your strength setting. FYI I consider a contemporary double dose to be 18g. You'd get that at a strength setting of ~4 on the machine - but adjust to your preference. A traditional Italian style double uses 14g dose. For best flavor with light roast beans use the highest temperature setting and finest grind setting to start. If you should get bitter flavors at finest grind back off a notch or two coarser. Hope that helps! Marc

Good shots start with then beans of course but in my experience these machines produce a better shot than what you'll get from mass market coffee shops but not as good as what you'd get at a specialty cafe made with care by a barista with real skills.
