This is still my favorite version of Company. The fact that they sang, acted AND played instruments is incredible.
Imagine just how talented you need to be to be a great actor AND a great musician, acting while holding onto a heavy instrument the whole time and when not speaking any lines, probably playing the score on the instruments. Insane. They’ve really done some cool and interesting stuff with this one show

I don't understand how his character got from the 1st scene to the last. Like for example barking like a dog 'mock me with praise'... LIKE WHY?? Why would Robert be barking? His normal voice is not pleasant either, nasal and karaokesque. You can't win a Tony for looking deep and intense for no reason. He was the worst thing about this performance.

I just love Esparza’s dry and hurried delivery of his lines. What a talent. This whole cast kills it. Being Alive came on my Spotify mix and I had to come back to the cast recording. Coming back to this show is like coming back to an old friend. So many iconic songs in one show. There’s a reason it broke records at the Tony’s… this revival is also one of the best Broadway revivals and THE best Sondheim revival in my opinion. (Though the Gyllenhall/Ashford revival of SITPWG is up there too)
I can’t believe I found the professionally filmed slime tutorial I’ve been looking for
Hands down that's the best thing Heisenberg has ever done.
The musical started off as 11 one-act plays by George Furth, who asked Sondheim to review them. Noticing a common theme, Sondheim later condensed the plays into what would become the first _concept_ musical , centered around marriage and the couples within it. Sondheim has a talent of noticing what is absent (as he would do with George in Sunday in the Park with George), and added Bobby as the third wheel which examines and connects all of these disparate vignettes. When opened, it was to a largely middle class audience who were seeking an escape from their middle class problems. Instead, they found their problems thrown right back at them. Critics loved it. After 50 years, this musical is still as relevant as _Carmen_ or _Othello_ , as these great works all touch on the essential parts of life, and no doubt will remain relevant far into the future.

The opening number from the Original Cast felt like the opening to a '70s sitcom or TV drama. In this version the opening makes me feel the tension inside Bobby right from the start.

This production should have truly won a special Tony for the cast also being the full orchestra as well. They fulfill the musical's title in that they are truly a theatrical company, pulling double if not triple duty.

This is exactly how Company should be produced, it needs to be updated to the times. The original script, setting, and music are so dated to the 70's that it sounds very retro. This production sounds modern.

Love this musical it was the one that made me get into musicals, found it through the intro scene of a madam secretary episode
So odd, halfway through, I felt like I was watching my life story play out. Even weirder, having moved back to NYC in my late 30's, many of the scenes resonated deeply.
Ok I'm back, just finished rewatching. To those who don't care for this production, I don't get it. The acting, singing, musicianship, professionalism, staging, it's all such a marvel of talent.
This has always been my favorite version of this show.
My favorite musical and production of all time. Absolute genius.
Quick, call it a slime!
When I first heard about this production at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, I thought it sounded like a terrible idea, but seeing it now (finally), I realize that the idea was reconceived, and it works wonderfully. I should have known that the Playhouse wouldn't let me down!
Why is everyone in this show so quotable? “You think I like my friends? No! I much prefer my gentile enemies, they leave me alone.” “We’re ten times more married then we were when we were married.” “You know my favorite quote: The unexamined life is not worth living.” “Well, mine is: The unlived life is not worth examining.”
I'm in love with a Bobby type. Just turned 35 and perpetually alone. He wants so much to be touched and held and and... but at the end of the day he sits alone. I took an exit from his train. Our destinations are not the same. I am turning 29 and I'm sure. He is going back and forth. Sad really. Bobby needs to make his own life choices. That's what this play reminds me. Bobby cannot be convinced of something he cannot yet define for himself. A want he doesn't know how to express. I'll always love Bobby but I am back on my own train. Bobby will know and find what he wants. Eventually.

The director's unique vision of this musical is truly imaginative, unique, and captivating...but it does raise some obvious questions. Namely: What could the character Bobby possibly see in these narcissistic, detestable, selfish people? What is the basis for their friendship? The relationships must make some sort of sense...while the depiction of these oppressive Upper East Side awful people is spot on, how could Bobby have been introduced to them in the first place? What does he possibly have in common with them, to form a friendship?
