Commuting on A Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited: First Impressions & Tips

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

There once was a time when we all had to physically arrive at a workplace to get our jobs done. While many of us have had some time off from the daily commute, for many others the time to return to the office is either here or approaching. In this video, I talk about my experiences commuting to work on a Can-Am Spyder F3. No matter Can-Am you ride, commuting on a Ryker or commuting on a Spyder requires different preperation than riding in a car. I explore that topic in depth while commuting from beautiful Las Vegas to Boulder City, Nevada.

Thanks I was all ryker being my first but I had to think about long rides if I want to see family. My daughter also wants to ride with me and in fear of the "bottom out" I knew I had to do extra work for a smooth ride. Now I'm considering a f3 to just fix all my worries and concerns. This was very helpful in my decision making. Safe travels.

It all depends, I think a lot of people would be fine 2UP on a Ryker, but me as a bigger guy, I've always been hesitant. The F3 Limited definitely felt like a whole other animal when it comes to the weight and capacity. Little less nimble feeling than a Ryker, but also very confidence inspiring at speed. Choices, choices.

Great vid. My primary vehicle since 2015 has been my 2015 Spyder F3S with Blue Ridge windshield and passenger backrest. Got most of my 31k miles commuting 45 minutes between Cobb county and downtown Atlanta for what used to be 5 days a week at first, then 3 days a week, then twice in last 15 months. I’ve commuted in temps as low as 26 degrees (32 degrees is minimum now) with no heated grips or gear, and have not experienced a riding temp too hot. For the cold, multiple layers of everything, and since fingers are the first to fail, ski gloves over rubber gloves, and have tried WindBusters? Have my work backpack, with waterproof cover when needed, that straps to passenger seat (I never leave backpack alone on bike) and helmet I leave on bike and rarely lock (knock on wood). I leave overpants/boot covers/gloves/balaclava in frunk so only have to shed torso layers and extra socks at desk. Often pick up dinner for family on way home by putting what’s in frunk in backpack, or I carry the backpack and strap food to passenger seat. I used to even pick up my son from high school on way home, took extra helmet to work, and we both had to wear our backpacks for those 10 minutes home, but it worked. To me, commuting is about gear, preparation, and options. Be safe out there.

You are riding the exact Can Am I want, a red Spyder F3 Limited with the chorme accents. We currently own our second HD Tri-Glide and they have kept us ouit there riding, but they are boring. The HD is like riding a 1937 mototcycle. Sure mechanically they've been updated, but they had the trike platform way back then. The Can Am is where it's at, new styling updated mechainics, all the newer electronis equipment. I'm SOLD and Iwll be looking for a Spyder just like the one you were riding this Spring. One thing never mentioned about is when you ride a HD or Gold Wing trike you have to be mindful where those rear wheels are. It is very easy to hits curbs, gas pumps, cars in parking lots, grocercy cart holders, ect. ect. ect. Whereas on a Can AM you're wide stance is up front and you know every second where they are and automaccily steer clear of such objects. Bye bye Harley.... Hell-o Spyder. Ride safe and enjoy every journey.

I’m thinking of getting a Ryker 900 for an hour commute over some really twisty roads. I’m a novice rider and I’ve seen that it can be very tiring on the arms to muscle the Ryker through a lot of tight turns. Would the power steering on the f3 make a big difference? The difference isn't as much in the arms as it is in the core. Because you are shifting your weight to the inside off of the center line of the seat, you can get a bit weary of ultra-winding roads. However, I rode the F3 on the Skyline Drive and Blueridge Parkway last year which has a tremendous amount of curves. I was moving my body around a lot but it was never truly taxing to do so.. The power assist steering is minimal at medium to high speeds. It's mostly helpful in the parking lot.

To be honest, I'm not sure how much of a factor that really is. They are both fairly wide and draw a lot of attention. What are your thoughts on the new Can Am Sea-To-Sky? I am thinking about buying one as a retirement gift to myself.

I’m a big fan, it definitely is something you could buy with confidence knowing that it’s going to treat you well for years to come. Looks great and has all the creature comforts. Just depends on how you will use it. If the goal is to take long trips comfortably (possibly with a passenger), then I would go for it. If going short to medium trips, I’d look down the line a little bit at an F3-T.

@@thealexkirschproject8036 I’d say the Sea-To-Sky would be the one then. Try out one of the new RTs when you have a chance, that should tell you everything you need to know.

@@3WheelKhalil when I did my Class, that's what I rode on. Loved it. I knew I wanted a Can-Am, but when I actually took the class last year, I LOVED IT!!! It's comfortable, has good get up and was turns on a dime.

How is the riding position? I prefer the ryker , because I sit down in it , not on top of it , how does this compare?

Definitely more on top of it vs a Ryker but more a little more down in it than an RT. More relaxed ride especially with the floorboards on this limited. Not a fan of the floorboards for sure. Takes you too far out of an aggressive riding position IMO. F3-T would be perfect for me as far as a longer trip Spyder goes.

I have an F3-S currently and it’s pretty comfy. Similar ergonomics overall, just the stock floorboards on the F3 limited encourage me to keep my legs at almost a 90 degree knee bend, instead of a bit out in front like I do with the foot pegs on the F3-S.
