Communist Bulgaria's Friday TV
mycentury.tv/bulgaria/item/235...
Remember that clock?! It is 20.00 in Bulgaria... "Программа Время", the main Soviet "news" programme, beaming straight from Moscow into Bulgarian homes.
Read by Igor Kirilov. For many years, without translation and the only choice on a Friday night, until Bulgarian TV launched its second channel in 1974.
Bulgaria's Communist leader for 35 years, Todor Zhivkov, declared on the occasion of a visit by then Premier Nikita Khrushchev in 1962:
"We must say that our political watch-dial is exact to the second with the watch of the Soviet Union, that our watch is working to Moscow time. This is a matter of great pride for all Bulgarian people."
(Rabotnichesko Delo-daily, 28 May 1962)

Indeed! And we Romanians loved to watch Bulgarian TV once you guys launched the second channel. We used to make as powerful antenas as we could, to tune in and watch Bulgarian TV. Our kids would watch Lolek and Bolek. We would watch Get Smart, Colombo, Alf and many more... We started to learn Bulgarian. In Romania, things were much worse. We only had 2 hours of TV everyday, from 20:00 to 22:00, wich was News, weather, a propaganda film and a briefing on the state of the economy in all sectors.
@svetlio50 Everyone in Bulgaria was obligated to learn Russian.
So IOW, even though this is Bulgarian television, they begin with footage of the Soviet Politburo. I wonder how much time they actually devoted to Bulgarian news?

Dennis Nayland Smith Every Friday instead of Bulgarian TV News Programme at 20 : 00 O' clock they were broadcasting the Soviet' s 1 - st TV Channel news programme . Immediately after that a shortened version of the Bulgarian TV News Programme was broadcasted. Later the same evening a Soviet Movie was broadcasted. Friday evening was reserved for Soviet propaganda. Nowadays the situation is even worse. The propaganda is much more broadcasted and much more sophisticated. But not Soviet one.
Thanks for your interest in this channel. The main Soviet news programme "Vremya" beamed straight from Moscow into Bulgarian homes, without translation, and the only choice on a Friday night. Till Bulgarian TV launched its second channel in 1974.
Very interesting commentary. I remember when Fidel Castro also wanted all the Cubans to learn Russian.
Thanks for your interest. Between 1944-1989 Bulgaria was considered the Soviet Union's '16th republic' in all but name: from decision-making to education curriculum. Hence the Russian-language broadcast.
is from 7 november 1977.day of ussr!
that's everithing you can saw on TV? speech and marches? :S
It"s USSR not Bulgaria!!!!!!!!
I was told so by a romanian boy, some 9 moths ago, I was very surprised...
