Common Mistakes Tennis Players Make in Pickleball: How to Transition Well

If you are a tennis player looking to make the transition to pickleball, there are a lot of changes you will need to make - and habits you will need to break. We put together some differences between pickleball vs. tennis, mistakes tennis players make, and shots you will need to work on that do not exist in tennis (like the “third-shot drop” and the “dink”).
Solid tennis players will already have a lot of the basic racquet skills, but you will need to work on the small differences and major strategies, and get rid of a few tennis habits you have learned over the years.

Tennis players will be making videos soon showing non tennis players how to play modern pickleball. Players with no tennis background will struggle to keep up soon.

NOT true with the return of serve in PB, especially in single. You see professional PB players such as ALW or Catherine Parentau stay back at the baseline after the return of serve. They only rush to the kitchen about 50% of the time. You can also hit the ball hard with topspin on the ball.

Yes this is true in singles but generally not in doubles. The only reason you should stay back in singles is to find a good ball to come in on. It might not be advantageous to advance if your on your back foot or can’t swing with forward momentum. The point is that many beginners stay back in doubles and it creates a disadvantage more times than not

Tennis is just better. Pickleball looks like a kids' game that is played by adults.
