    Greetings do you know what causes a hard down shift on a 2018 3.5/10 spd?

  • @poobank
    @poobank2 ай бұрын

    My 2021 Ranger would have some hard shifts on slight downhill on my drive to work and sometimes coming to a stop. At times it felt like someone rearended me. I hated that transmission.

    I have a 2023 10r80 which has a harsh downshift 4-3. They have performed the full tsb on the transmission updated software, accelerated break in and valve body cleaning. It still does it for me. They say next step is overhaul....curious what that means. Cdf drum is updated on my transmission from factory to my knowledge. Would they simply replace the valve body at this point likely?

    With the updated cdf from the factory, the next step for me would be a new valve body. After that, teardown and inspect the e clutch, f clutch and container cylinder

    @@BigBensCarsAndCycles ok I was curious. When I brought it in last they stated it would get a new valve body with a updated superseded number to it but upon receiving it back the receipt just says removal cleaning and reinstall with new plates. No improvement at all unfortunately.

    I swapped my trans fluid on my 2022 F150 at 25k miles with BG stuff. No problems really shifting before just in city stop and go traffic it doesnt really like but over all it shifts nice specially upshifting. I’m gonna keep flushing every 25-30k miles to avoid issues

  • @Thisiscrazy2023

    I go to my trusted shop. What I mean by flushing is shop uses machine to extract fluid while at the same time introducing new fluid in. I have this done instead of drain and fill

    Any thoughts on a shudder when under load? I have this weird issue where if im going about 65 on the highway, as soon as i go up hill it has a transmission shudder which feels almost like a tire out of balance. Im still under warranty and took it in and ford claimed it was "normal". 2020 f150

  • @BigBensCarsAndCycles

    @BigBensCarsAndCycles

    It may be a torque converter clutch shudder, or an engine misfire. When it happens, if you apply full throttle and it gets worse, its likely a misfire. If it goes away under full throttle, its probably torque converter clutch shudder.

  • @AE-hl5ey

    @AE-hl5ey

    @@BigBensCarsAndCycles yeah, I replaced all the spark plugs thinking that it might be a misfire but it didn't help. First dealer I took it to claimed it needed a software update. Not really sure what they actually did but it helped a little however I still notice it. Generally once I get under or passed a certain speed it will go away

    Does the CDF drum bushing issue will happen no matter what? My 21 F150 on 50K Kilometers is driving pretty smooth, it is very smooth when first couple miles before coming to normal operation temperature, and it feels like sometimes clunky after comes to operation temperature, and one obvious issue is when light foot on braking to stop, sometimes it has big cluck when down shit from 5 to 3 or 4 to 3. But if I use multi stepping on brake paddle, I can totally avoid that. Just like you need to know your truck and what to do in when, it is a bit annoying. I am concerned about the drum bushing issue when I am out of warranty. Thanks you for your videos!

    Thanks for watching! It isn't a guarantee it'll happen, but it is common enough to plan for eventually (worst case scenario). But with a new CDF, trash can and valve body gaskets, its a pretty solid reliable transmission! It'll just clunk once in a while

    @@BigBensCarsAndCycles Also, most of time, when start from stop, during gear changing up from 1 to 5, I can hear a high pitch noise between gear changing, hard to describe what that noise sounds like, but I can not figure out whether it is from the pump or from the solenoids. This noise was develop obvious after 20K, it happens only between gear up shit, it is not a big deal, just annoying. Any idea what that can be?

    Same here man. My 2020 ranger does it too. I had to take matters into my own hands since my dealer kept telling me that it's normal for 3rd and 4th gear to lose power.. so I put Fords tune to change the mapping, changed the fluid to amsoil, I put a new aluminum more capacity tranny pan on , and I will say the 3rd to 4th gear power loss toned down a tremendous amount. The ONLY time I have an issue is like you, when it's at full operating temp. When before it was at cold start... It's weird. @bigbencarsandcycles another KZread ford tech told me my power loss problem doesn't sound like the cdf drum , mine sounds like a solenoid sticking, does that sound true? Just wanted your take. Thanks sir

    @@BigBensCarsAndCycles I have a 2023 f150 with 4,400 miles on it, and it has a horrible 1-3 shift when cold. Once you start it when cold and take off it has a bad delay staying in 1st then all of a sudden it will jerk into 3rd. After that it shifts pretty decent. Do you have any ideas what causes that cold 1-3 hard delayed shift?

    Hey Big Ben, Is the 10R80's Transmission PUMP Gear Driven? Are there "ANY" Chains in the 10R80 anywhere???

  • @BigBensCarsAndCycles

    I'm surprised you didn't include the computer programming "adaptive driver learning issue", many videos of this causing unnecessary breakage on transmissions with different drivers, when computer is reprogrammed to the factory preset (turning off adaptive learning) of what Ford's data said transmission should generally shift at, many issues of hard shifting were resolved! That is before damage had occurred.

    @@BigBensCarsAndCycles I bought a 2021 Expedition 5 months ago with 47K miles, now it has 50K, and it occasionally jerks, but it does it much worse in speed control when going up and down grades on 2-lane roads at 55 to 60mph, it tries to backoff too much then re-accelerate and the computer in the transmission in my estimation doesn't handshake very well with cruise speed control. Is that a valid statement, and can you say how often the oil in transmission should be changed out? Thanks...

    I'm wanting to buy a 1/2 ton which is super-reliable long term and doesn't rust out. Yes, I'd like a Tundra, but the frames rust out, they're gas hogs and the old design with the V8 are selling for stupid money right now. Too many issues with the new Tundra to consider right now. So I'm looking at F-150 with the NA 3.3, which is supposed to be bulletproof. Is the older six-speed transmission in these trucks reliable, and are the post-August 2022 10-speeds now a good bet reliability wise? Should I try to get an older 6-speed instead?
