PM Lee, If you are referring to the risk of erosion of trust in the Singapore system, it would then be due to the high handed ways your incumbent party conduct themselves. Sometimes worse, when they even claim it is in the name of the law. Question the COP witnesses, grill them if you will, to get to the bottom of the matter. I do not think any of us will dispute that. But look at the hearings itself, its videos and notice the disparate and disportionate efforts spent. 9 hours on LO, 3 hrs on sylvia lim, and 6 hours on FM. RK's two independent COP hearings probably do not even add up to the summed total amount of time spent on SL. It is quite astonishing that the task at hand - which is an inquiry into the conduct of the member who lied in parliament, gets one of the least amount of time spent on the hearings. Suppositions, assumptions, propositions are thrown and exerted onto the witnesses - some of them, many times the witnesses claim they can't answer cos they were not in those situations and answering untruthfully would not do justice to the hearings. Many times, it is only a singular committee member who frames the questions, asks them. This particular member also puts it onto the witnesses rather aggressively his suppositions, assumptions and propositions. Most of the other committee members remain largely silent. Just for the record. What we want to see is the bare facts. Not deductions, not smart questions and answers deduced based on suppositions, assumptions or propositions. We want high standards. But i don't even think the standards of the COP hearings can even compare close to what our courts are like. COP proceedings are quasi-criminal. It has powers to operate like the court in meting out sentences, but yet differentiates and separates itself, and it's powers clearly from the courts. If there is high standards to be seen and expected, we need the COP to at least mirror close to, or better still, exceed the standards of our courts, to show to its citizenry a prime example of what excellent politics should be.

Yes, PAP also uses resources to do the COP report - but that is a choice they choose to? Also, from PS statement, it seems like the COP omit some things in their considerations. It is just like if your friend is doing CPR on another guy and you use that as an excuse to report him as having gay sex because you see them "kissing". Yes, you will not be held responsible but police is sure going to be pissed off at you for making irresponsible report. (trying to extend the analogy but may not be perfect example)

@@flowertowerrr I think that is one of the myths when it comes to defending oneself in the court. Many people think they u need a lot of money to hire a world class lawyer to win the lawsuit. That is not true. What u need is a clear mind to argue yr case. Of course, if u are blur like sotong like FM, u will lose even if innocent.

Again a case of the pap seeking legitimacy to persecute the opposition. Too bad many did not see the flaws in his argument. Lhl skilfully weaved in "trust and honesty" into the picture and "mixes" them with the principles of democracy in the hope of gaining acceptance within (Singapore) and beyond (other countries)? Democracy means "a system where people runs their own country". Democracy means each and every person in a country is represented and has a say in how his or her country is run. Trust and honesty are important attributes, but they are not the tenets of democracy. Though he is still many notches below his father in this respect, he is catching up.

They said they will investigate, but reporting to the public is a separate matter. After all, this is about how they select candidates, and if the claims against Ivan Lim were true or not.

The fundamental principle of justice is that before one proven guilty by a judge of court, one is innocent. This principle should also be to the WP leaders in this case. It is not appropriate to hit out at them based on the assumption that they have committed telling untruth and contempt of COP respectively, even as the findings in the COP report are yet8 be scrutinised in a court of law. If the court will to rule that the two WP leaders are innocent, how the COP in particular and PAP will be viewed in the eyes of the members of the public.

Speaking of doing the building a brave new world, how is sentencing underprivileged men to death for drug crimes a good and virtuous cycle? Wouldn’t that only repeat the bad cycle of helping the drug war? Having internal values is also recognising that people don’t make bad choices unless they’re limited of choice & choice is a privilege not everyone has. I want expect better of this system that the underprivileged deserve a chance to live with better opportunities so as to not repeat a bad cycle.

While death penalty may not be effective in other countries, it is a working strategy for Singapore. I hope for the death penalty be used as a deterrence for any form of drug smuggling in Singapore. Being in an unfavorable situation should never be used in justifying any crime that may cause harm to another fellow human or society.

Arbitration usually means both sides agree at the start to a ruling by an arbitration court. If China didn’t agree to the arbitration in the first place, should they be bound by the arbitration ruling?

I think PM Lee not only stated the truth for India, Israel - but he also distanced from China - that Singapore is not beholdened to a party - but to the country. I am hard to be convinced that the entire COP saga is even fair since the entire COP members were filled with PAP members and none from the opposition party? The COP need to go under another committee to revamp the criteria to include other NMPs and opposition MPs. Or perhaps, COP should comprise of independent judiciary members instead. Otherwise, nothing is fair after witnessing the witnesses were INTERROGATED like convicts and unappreciated. The disrespect rendered by ET loses my deep respect for formerly successfully PAP under PM Lee Hsiang Loong’s father. I strongly disagree with questions posed. How many PAP memebers who did not have right values and integrity had left the political arenas? The public really trust the leaders? Really? They were not given the choice if they remain unvaccinated and discriminated.

Hong Yi is under the tutelage of Vivian Balakrishnan for paving his way into politics.

Who check the checkers, the WP famously asked because apparently, "ownself check ownself" is not possible. During the FICA debate, the WP wanted the provision of appeals against a Minister decision in the High Court. The recommendation of the COP to refer Pritam Singh to the Public Prosecutor should be a decision welcomed by all, including Pritam Singh and WP supporters. It allows an independent court to look at the evidence afresh. Pritam will have the full opportunity to defend himself in court with legal counsel and new evidence, if any. Significantly, the PAP cannot be said to use their majority against the Opposition. Sylvia Lim and Faisal Manap also lied but both played a subsidiary role. The COP recommends that actions against Sylvia Lim be deferred until Pritam position with the Public Prosecutor is clarified and criminal proceedings completed, if any. Faisal is also referred to the Public Prosecutor, not for lying, but for refusing to answer questions. His refusal to answer questions amount to contempt of Parliament. It also suggests he wanted to hide the truth.

The Prime Minister is so right, it’s almost unbelievable that such leadership exists in our current world. Singapore has an extremely difficult task in tightly and guardedly upholding its principles and ethos, and preventing them from being eroded. It’s very very difficult. I only hope that successive generations of leaders will continue to tightly uphold these values and resist any attempts at dilution.

Finally, we can bring Pritam Singh and Manup to court - let the impartial judges decide. PS and FM can argue their cases in court and let our impartial courts and judges decide if they lied under oath and tried to cover-up Khan's lie. This is super fair, if you allege that the PAP-filled COP is biased, then surely you will be happy that PS and FM have their day in court. If Pritam and Manup win, their names will be cleared and Khan will be doubly punished for lying under oath. If they lose, they should be rightfully exposed as self-serving dishonourable rats, and Singapore politics will be rid of such dirty politicians. Win-win right? No matter how you spin it, one of the two is lying - Pritam or Khan. And the courts will find out. This is for those Opposition supporters who have at least some morals and conscience (and also those who can take-a-punch kind, if it is a legitimate loss, can man up and take the hit): Democracy is not just about voting, elections and debates. Honesty and country-over-self values are the bedrock of Democracy. Being the opposition is not a blank cheque for opposition MPs to do whatever they like with impunity. Opposition can sometimes be less competent, that is fine. But not dishonest and crooked. Debates filled with lies and falsehoods are useless, UN-democratic and even detrimental.

I wonder is Mr Lee really like people to speak with 100 percent truth, not a single lie? And will the truth really solve the problem without causing conflict, negative impact, and of cause ehance integrity instead of losing integrity? Just a seeking advice.

This the same Brigadier general who cried when talking about doing national day parade in the rain.Remember he doesn't have any friends, he was just a sheltered boy all the way growing up.Even his brother does not like him.His presence in Singapore politics has prevented and discouraged true Singaporean talent from flourishing.True talents are not "yes" men.Until this guy is gone.
