COMMISSARY IN JAIL- prices, ordering, limit

I am sharing my life with you. Showing that recovery is possible. My sobriety date is 3/18/16. We can enjoy and be grateful for even the little things in life. Our past doesn't define us, and it's okay to talk about it. Do what you need to do to help you heal. You never know who's heart you'll touch or who you'll help. We are not alone with the dark stuff we've been through and with the things we still go through in recovery. Everything is going to be okay. We can get through it together.

My brother went to jail a month ago and because of your videos I send him money every week. Before he went to jail i hadn’t spoken to him in a year and a half. But I didn’t want him in there with nothing. So me, my sister and my mom send money every week and put money on our phones so he can call.

That’s so good of you. When I was doing weekend time, I never called my husband because the situation was already so bad and we didn’t have the extra money anyways, but so many other women there don’t even have people to call in the people who are there who have people they can call just having that ability makes all the difference in the world knowing you have someone you can talk to who can tell you what the weather was truly like that day(our outdoor time was in a benched in cement area. You could see the sky and that’s it. If it even drizzled no outside time. jails and prison in South Carolina, especially for women like we only had one pod and it was not good. Definitely right on about the whole “we’ll just don’t get arrested “ bullshit. Got arrested after a car wreck. My license had expired 2 days before. Car wreck was bad. Luckily me and other person were okay but my airbag deflated and the cop was gleeful about trying to make me do a sobriety test. I didn’t know it at the time but I had a minor concussion. By that point my husband had gotten there and I swear this cop was trying to arrest me. He smiled(deadass serious) when he saw my license. I got locked up, usually they just do a ticket. The other driver did too (I found out in court hers was insurance lapse) but I went in overnight in a holding cell for court (I shared more about the experience on one of your shorts actually) When I went to court the entire room was filled (I’m being deadass serious) with people this cop had ticketed or arrested. I got my license renewed literally the next day and by the time the judge got to me, the judge honestly seemed furious at the cop. Everyone had bunk ass charges. And judge was horrified because I also had some charge for resisting arrest??? And I was like no…I wouldn’t do a sobriety test because the airbag deployed and I felt weird and it turns out I had a minor concussion(I brought paperwork, I also was prepared to do whatever I needed to do because I had all these charges I didn’t understand & the fines were a couple of grand) but told the cop that I would give blood or do a breathalyzer. at that point the judge had already seen so many people who were arrested or got these ridiculously high tickets for literally like just almost nothing and I ended up having to pay like $45(literally a low ass amount ticket for my license)when I had a couple of thousand on these tickets. I was sooooo relieved. Like cried thanking the judge. I hope that cop isn’t still out there, because he was terrifying. Like he was whistling the whole time he was driving me there, and I was just confused, crying, and just frankly terrified. I really really don’t like or trust cops. I didn’t to begin with but this guy genuinely terrified me. Still does. *EDIT*- apparently there’s some super hostile people on here so let me go ahead and just answer some questions. Not even questions just give some more detail. Both me and the driver were detained. We were both found at fault. There was a reason it was two days expired however I’m not going to get into my personal business as someone has claimed I like to play the victim card and regardless, as I said, it is personal. Also, some of you guys have got to do some yoga or take some deep breaths or something. That’s all. She was arrested for her insurance lapsing and a list of other charges too and I know that(about insurance ) because she tried to sue my insurance& blame me for wreck, but ultimately as we were both found fault she didn’t get anything from my insurance. The whole incident took place at a caution light , like it had just turned (i think, I can’t remember) and we were both at the point of no return when we were driving. They have since made changes to that intersection as this was a common place for wrecks in my town. This occurred 7 years ago. That was the judges ruling. The tickets were a separate matter entirely as I was given so many and so was the woman involved in the accident as well. we did not share a holding cell, She went to the hospital and I just wanted to get it done with because I could have made court if the officer had not pissed around and she ended up coming into the a holding Cell as I was actually going to court for bond. I don’t remember much else. My husband came (this was in center of our town and my best friend was with me, luckily uninjured) Also yes, it was irresponsible that I let my license lapse for the 2 days. I’ll admit that. But I genuinely had something more important to tend to thus the judge giving me a low fine as I brought what kept me. It was the only ticket kept that couldn’t be removed. Judge was kind as courtroom was genuinely full. No victim card here. Usually you get just a ticket and not arrested if it’s over 7 days per law here but it was already done at that point. Okay, ✌🏻, yall should take some deep breaths. Count to 3. Then release. To the people who I think I deserved my arrest, you have a right to your feelings 🤷🏻‍♀️. That’s all. Be safe everyone!

@@Lahteehdah like what bothers me is the entire night I was in that holding Cell women were being left and right and he brought a woman in and they straight up had her RIPPED her wig off. I was lucky because I was literally wearing this long cardigan, a T-shirt, a tank top, and jeans, and was able to give her my tank top so that she could cover her head, but that man was gleeful like and that court room was packed and where I used to work at the cops shooting range was literally right behind it because our shelter that I work for was working out of essentially what you would call the dog pound, and that guy was always always there every weekend shooting. He would wave at me. I kept the gates locked to the area I worked. And would run. Inside. But just aggressively shooting EVERY weekend. I hope that he is not a cop anymore or anything with any type of power. Like when I say that judge was MAD like I’m not joking, he was furious because the stuff people got arrested for or ticketed for like I don’t remember what one of them was but the judge said that the law on this one like “no one had gotten ticketed or arrested since like the 80s.😡” (I loved that judge) Like and there’s no quota! he did this just to be cruel. Like we’re supposed to call the cops do wellness checks when they come to our doors with the guns drawn? But then when we’re in trouble and we need them, we have to call them. Like I just don’t wanna be terrified of people I need to protect me. But then straight up, ripping that wig off that woman because it happened during her arrest. because I got lucky because some of my piercings straight up don’t come out and the cop was trying to rip them out at intake, and thank God for the CO , who had some piercings and also a few dermals because she told him to get away from me because he was trying to go my double helix at first and straight up like in order to get that one removed like my studs do not just pop out like it’s in there man. I made that choice since I have to wear ear protectant so pretty much everything I have to go to the shop for to get it changed out but he would’ve ripped out piercing by piercing if he could’ve. Evil bastard Edit: found out in my state, in that jail actually, they used to rip out piercings. They did it and 2 women and a man died due to infection. They died in jail. I’m horrified and realize how lucky I got. Especially as the one they were trying to rip out first I was almost screaming because I was like “ITS NOT A REGULAR PIERCING. I WORK WITH DOGS/CATS, IT HAS TO BE TAKEN OUT BY THE SHOP AS ITS BASICALLY A MOD DUE TO EAR PROTECTION!”, thank god for that co. None of my piercings could be used to hurt anyone and none of them popped out. Even my Labre doesn’t pop out from the front like normal. Like I just recently recently after like seven years? Got the stone changed out and that was a whole process. And we changed the helix studs, like we had to change all the jewelry and then make damn sure I liked it and came back for them to check in a week. Small town and like this piercing place has been there forever and know me because our rescue does events with them. But I just found out about those people dying.

@@anikabutler8945 so did you read the part where I said at worked at the County animal shelter but I did animal rescue within the building ? I’m very well aware of how they treat the poor. I’m very very well aware of how they treat the poor however, this cop was a particular brand of horrific. When I was in court, he didn’t discriminate against Rich, white, black, poor, anything. He didn’t give a damn if you were purple. But trying to make me do a sobriety test after I was in a car wreck where the airbag deployed? I’m in recovery so unfortunately, I’ve spent more time than I’d like to admit going in and out of jail and honestly, this cop was the worst one I ever dealt with and that says something because I’m in South Carolina. Edit this to say: i’m aware of how they treat the poor because I was incredibly poor during all of this experience. Like counting coins, and we were on a severe budget and we were thrilled because I started out volunteering and they hired me because (I was having such a hard time getting a job due to my past and now I’m working on expunging my job killer charge.) I did my best not to look poor, especially while there because places don’t want to hire you if you look poor. But I went a year without a car (you have to have a car where I live because I’m in the south and we do have a city, but nothing is really within walking distance and then we also have a lot of rural areas and I I worked in a rural area and we do have a bus and it’s branching out now, but before it would only take you to places like Walmart, some doctors pavilions, and the mall but no public transport other than that and I worked so far out there that even getting near those places and walking, it would’ve still taken me hours on foot) and my husband would have to drop me off and I would have to wait outside the gates until I was there long enough for them to trust me with the key for over an hour(sometimes 5:30 am if he had to go in early and I know he felt like a failure leaving me there even though i would make myself comfortable) at 6:30 in the morning until someone rolled up hopefully at 7:30 but usually at eight until my other only coworker realized what was happening to me and started coming in way early himself. He claims that he wanted to get there before it got hot, but I knew it was because he hated the idea of me sitting there, like almost on the side of the road waiting to get into work. And on the days where I would have to Uber home it would be $30 so it would literally be like most of my days pay. So yeah, I know how they treat poor people. I could tell you stories of things that I did when I wasn’t even in active addiction like stealing food from grocery stores because we were so bad off. Or how I had to steal my athletic gear from Goodwill. I didn’t want to hit a local thrift shop as they actually help our community, but Goodwill doesn’t do anything for our community, especially now except abuse their workers and they don’t even put the good stuff out anymore. They sell it online. I did that so we could survive because my husband was the one with the job that was barely paid our bills and he has never even smoked pot. And he also has celiac’s so he could barely eat anything so I don’t have any guilt from filling up my reusable bag at Whole Foods that had stuff he could eat or God forbid we get to have ice cream. I’m so glad to be out of that phase of my life and I hope to never return to it. And I wasn’t even in active addiction. Just beyond poverty stricken. So yeah, I worked with a bunch of rich women who did Rescue on the side while for me and my coworker. It was our pay job and I had to not look poor. My work boots, which were galoshes we would get them on sale at tractor supply and God forbid if they got a hole. Thank God for flex tape. But I was able to get legit danner work boots (from poshmark) but it was exhausting. On the days when my boss and all the rich fosters would show up to do intake they would all go out to lunch and of course we were invited and if I couldn’t get out of it, I knew that we were just going to this gas station down the street that had amazing food and I could get a side order of macaroni for $2.74 and I just convinced them I was vegetarian still . I worked there for seven years and just recently left and they thought I was vegetarian. So yeah, getting your life together after active addiction and getting clean takes a long time, especially as my husband took out alone to make sure I got actual help by that point my parents were gone. I am white however so that did give me a certain luxury and I hate even saying that, but I know that it helped me get the food and a lot of stuff I had to steal. Not proud of any of that, but I did what I had to do. And with a lot of hard work we rose above it, but we all know that we’re only a few paychecks away from being back in that position and that’s all of us unless you have generational wealth. Edit again : the car that I was actually driving was mygrandmother‘s that she could no longer drive and so very generously let me have and it was over 20 years old, but I loved that old boat and was devastated when I lost that car. Like I was proud of that car . I didn’t care about someone else’s Prius or whatever. I was proud of just having a vehicle. And it was spacious as well but the airbags deployed and it was by that .22 years old maybe? Typical old lady car but still I loved that thing. So watching that evil man drive slowly so I would miss court and whistle after losing my vehicle was torture. He managed to turn a 30 minute drive into one that took over an hour and I kept begging him please I know I can make court. I know I can make court. So some cops are just nasty.

I've been following your channel for awhile now and your videos are so well done. They're informative and keep everything lighthearted. I've never personally done time myself but as a physically disabled woman, I've often wondered how disabled inmates are treated in jail or in prison. The standards of care in jails and prisons seems to be so low and seeing glimpses of jail life in other countries makes me very sad to see how things are here in the US. The US justice system seems to exploit people when they're at their most vulnerable and it's truly sick. I'm not speaking for all inmates because we all know that there are genuinely bad people out there, but a lot of people locked up are just regular good people who had a misstep and don't deserve to be treated like animals or worse. Thank you for all that you do in breaking the stigma. It shines a spotlight on not only the fact that good people end up locked up too but also that you can pick yourself back up and make your life better when you get out.

Thank u. A lot of people look down on some of the stuff I bring to light but that's why I'm doing it. It's more common than most think and any of it can happen to anyone. Instead of society judging like they have been taught to, it's time to see things for what they really so if they ever get in that situation or their loved ones do. They'll know who to turn to for help. ❤️‍🩹 I would've loved to see someone talk about this stuff before I ever went thru, while I was going thru it, and in early recovery. I appreciate you understanding. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 I also censor a lot in my videos so if they're too young they won't know what I'm talking about. If they do know, than they need to what can happen if they take that path or if they need help bc they already have. The sad reality is drvgs are hitting the generations younger and younger as times goes by. I don't want anyone to ever feel alone like I did when I was out there bc there IS A WAY OUT. 🙏🙏

From someone who used to party and just got lucky I wasn't born with the addiction gene - this is a slap in the face reminder of just how lucky I was to make it out of that phase safe and with a clean record. Bless you for making all this content. I had soooo many friends suffer from dope problems, it hit my town in Mississippi like a cancer in 2009. Plenty of successful folks, too, I knew an attorney who ODd after just 8 months on the shit. I sooo wish someone like you with this content had existed back then to show them just how bad it could get, maybe some could have been saved. Some of my friends made it out the other side, but let's just say I've been to more than 50 funerals since 2005, including one just last year. He was such a dear friend... Struggled with dope for more than 20 years. He was 45 when he passed. RIP Kenny Hill. ❤

I was lucky to have been locked up in a jail where the officers and other employees were good people (my bunkies were great as well). They did the best they could with the little resources they had. It wasn't the best time of my life, but it could have been so much worse. Now, the one I was in before getting transferred to my final destination was a nightmare and a whole story on its own.

@kathyyoung1774 your experience doesn't speak for everyone tho. Everyone is different, everyone's life is different. Not everyone is an addict. No one knows it'll happen until it happens. No one knows what they would do unless they were in the exact same shoes. Not everyone has family, money, a roof over their head, food. Some have been thru some really scary things in life and have had no one to help teach them how to cope so they numbed themselves. Some people get in a random accident or lose their job, lose everything and become homeless. Sometimes its self defense. So just bc it wasn't hard for you doesn't mean life won't be hard for everyone else. What we can do is try to help others who are suffering in silence. Let people know there is a way out. There is help out there and no one has to do it alone.

That's insane to be arrested for being homeless!!! How can they do that. Being down on your luck is not a crime. The prison system in this country is so corrupt. There should not be allowed to be privately owned prisons. We need reform so bad. We all have to wake up and stand up for each other and start asking the hard questions and demanding answers and change.

One isn’t arrested for homelessness, per se, but there are tons of laws on the books that target them. Such as No Loitering (hanging around) a business, No public camping, no open containers (alcohol), no public intoxication, no pan handling, and so on. Florida is one of those states that have all these on the books.

Never been in jail per se. I had to do a “book and release” after pleading no contest to trespassing, about 25 years ago. I had to check into the county jail, they made me remove my belt & tie (I just came straight from the courthouse down the block) so I wouldn’t self delete, put me in a holding cell for about 10 or 15 minutes until they were able to get my mug & prints, then I was free to go. But one thing I remember from the maybe 45 minutes I was inside the facility is the smell. I guess it’s like a body odor kind of smell. Not really like ass or a dirty person just…person smell.

They have a basic right to stay a comfortable tempurature, a right to have a safe place to sleep, food to nourish their bodies, and a right to proper hygine. The fact that these facilities don't provide those basic things are cruel and inhumane. Thanks for sharing this so people can see the truth and hopefully push towards changing the system! ♥

I work in a jail as the food service director. We don't have commissary. Everybody wants to work in the kitchen because my trustees get coffee, extra food and real koolaid. I have two crews of 4 each and they constantly ask me to bring in contraband. I bring them goodies on deep cleaning day, depending on what the commander will allow. This next time, i might bring in pizza rolls and sodas. Last time, it was microwave popcorn and sodas. They were so ecstatic, and didn't complain about the extra work. Helps with morale when i tell them i need all the food racks in dry storage torn down, pulled away from the walls, cleaned and swept and mopped. I also put a little extra effort in the food. We are on a tight budget, cost per meal per person is just over a dollar. But it's really taught me how to take next to nothing and making it taste good. Not great and not high end restaurant quality, but good. Decent food helps with mental health and reduces the risk of jail riots.

What? The prison system doesn’t make money off inmates! It costs taxpayers roughly $50,000 to keep someone is prison each year. That is taxpayers COST. The items sold in the commissary are sold AT COST. When I worked in a prison, I often bought snacks there because it was MUCH CHEAPER than the grocery store. The jail or prison is not making money!

i've never been to prison or jail, but I did spend time in a "troubled teen facility" here in utah. Watching your videos is always therapeutic due to the similarities. i'm sure you've heard of how Paris Hilton is trying to bring light to these facilities here in utah. We actually lost a girls life due to the conditions inside, and justice has still not been served. we sent our testimonies to our Utah government, but nothing gets done :( sad world we live in, I appreciate your content so much

"People have lives to live bills to pay. You are not their problem. You are a grown adult in jail. " You said it to good. It's definitely something to remember always for any situation
