Nice install! You didn't seem to fussed about not being able to carry out the 6ma dc rcd test,I'm not being snarky it's just im thinking about buying the new megger purely for that test, I'm only doing a car charger every now and then.
I use the Rolec Charge check with my FLUKE, similar to what you use. Not sure I could justify the cost of the Metrel units. God vid again. 👍😁

Hi, I really can't see what Jordan did wrong, as an old spark from the 1960's I never worked in a factory where you could isolate you had to work live. Our only isolation indicator was a neon screwdriver, I overcame my fear as a wee lad by working on live bus bars the length of the factory with only about an inch between each phase, no flash or eye protection that was the norm in those days, it looked perfectly safe to me plenty of space just needs not to get distracted when doing so.

It’s impossible to shut down a working business sometimes, we mitigate risk by performing a risk assessment and being extra careful during the work and having supervision.
For a DC RCD test, all you need is a resistor and a diode...

Surprised they didn’t opt for the 3 phase version of the zappi considering they had access to a 3 phase supply.

@@tresslerj1985 Yeah would have been nice but there was a lot of load on the system already and not really necessary for a car with such a small battery. Charge up during work time doesn't need to be a fast charge.
7 kw X .13p per kw X 6 hours = £5.46 per day to charge up every night is that a good estimate
Do you fit surge protection with the EV chargers too ?

LOL all i ever find are bl**dy 7mm drills Let me know how you get on with those knipex pliers... I've wanted a pair but they're quite pricey, would be nice to get a view from a spark... maybe even do a 'tools for sparks' episode on it? Screwdrivers with trashed insulation become 'find a joist' bashers for downlight installs in our case... :) And kudos to your grandpa... I am not sure how it is in cambridge, with the university... but they have historic buildings... getting him to teach you MI might be worth a shot if he's still up to it. It's used in churches a lot

Can you install longer tethered cables with the Zappi or would it void their warrenty?

Can someone explain what the "CT connection" is please?
@barrybritcher
4 жыл бұрын
Current sensor I believe.
@eddieellison7959
4 жыл бұрын
Its to do with the network providers "Current Transformers" or step-downs, so the polarity is required for the sensing circuits to perform correctly. That's its simplest explanation but can be quite complex in its deeper explanation. Hope this helps ;-)

Surely it should be a 32amp type B MCB, not a 40amp?
@brendon-paul

The manufacturers specify a 40A Type B. Presumably due to inrush currents.
How much would you charge for a job like that?

A days labour plus materials
@reinerraymondo1586
4 жыл бұрын
Of course .... But how much is that? Give me some indication.... It it worthwhile to go go self employed?

Depends on how good you are and where you live but self employed electricians charge anywhere from £150-650 a day it varies massively.
@elliottwadsworth4201

A Wall Box Charger can cost around £500 but there is a £350 Gov grant to cover costs. Total cost minus the grant and added labour costs will able around £500. If you don’t drive that far like me I’ve got an outside 3pin plug instead and that’s much cheaper. 3pin charges about 7 miles per hour wall box will be about 30 miles per hour. Hope that helps.
I wonder why the customer never went for a 3 phase install- seemed ideal?
@artisanelectrics

Not necessary really
@johnkeepin7527
4 жыл бұрын
I suspect that frequent use of rapid charging for most EV’s is likely to reduce the service life of their traction batteries, so probably wise not to do it every day. Not only that, rapid charging might be less efficient, if more cooling is required during charging. Just paying to warm the air then.
@HenryLoenwind
3 жыл бұрын
@@johnkeepin7527 With AC charging you're not even near 1C unless you're charging a hybrid with a dwarf battery. And it's slow charging that pisses away energy as all the electronics that need to be running don't use less energy if you charge slower. Up to half the energy that comes in can get wasted for just keeping the car "on" in extreme cases.
Jordan ive learnt over the years NOT to put expensive equipment on top of step ladder whilst working on them, an expensive lesson learnt.
