Appreciate your being on KZread. I have been entertained and taught by you. At seventy three and a life-long shop dweller and in the trades for forty five years before retirement I've realized the benefit of gloves, safety shields, ear protection and particle masks. Of course I learned those benefits the hard way. You keep posting, I'll keep watching. Thank You.

For two years I´ve been contemplating the offer of a free 7" shaper from a neighbor but your videos "pushed me over the edge". I´ve just got it running and am building a heavy table for it. Am on the lookout for a dividing head and by the time that have arrived I´m sure I´ve gathered the info on how to achieve the right and consistent depth when cutting gears. You are an inspiration. Well said about the ads on this platform, I started to worry a while back when they started this, closing ad blockers and the like, now all my ad blockers are back installed as I need them for other platforms and browsing, sometimes I have to refresh the video, but I don't see any ads now, I Like the analogy regarding having your neigbors pay a fee to stop you blasting music from your window, dead right there! I think what they are doing is scandalous, even Prime which I pay for now has ads, very annoying, take care my friend, Dave, UK.. ps Hey, I love cats too, hope it ended up on it's feet!!

Those tool holders look smart. I don't buy from Amazon unless I need something the very next day - their item descriptions are often bad, incomplete or 'fake' and anyway Amazon is nearly always expensive compared to eBay (which has the eBay refund/return guarantee). I've bought cheap tap & die sets which are blunt before you even start but I have always found machine taps to be tough and sharp and still the sets are cheap enough. As for KZread, I have not noticed censorship in the UK so far. I think they are all money grabbing - just had to upgrade my phone because Google decided not to issue any more security updates but it is a perfectly good phone that I really like. So even though I buy outright it still feels like phone rental. My new phone has hardly any benefits compared to the old one, and I resent it and now have a negative feeling towards Google. Trouble is the alternative iPhone (minimum 6 years support) is twice the price. Come back Windows phone!! Cheers

Nice tips on angle grinder usage. Re. KZread, they have to recoup the cost of running the infrastructure, payroll etc. The ads and YT Premium are the ways to generate revenue, I suspect the reason they show more ads now is because of people using adblockers so they need to make up for the reduced volume. It's a vicious cycle.

I tried to avoid carbon steel taps when I can, decent HSS seem more dependable. As a short-of-time hobby guy it can take a very long time to arrive at a tapped hole toward the end of a part, and the thought of having to start over because of a broken tap can be crushing. Use the best you can reasonably afford. As a KZreadr you're exposing yourself to an entire planet of different health and safety rules, that have been drilled into viewers work-day after work-day, so you have to forgive sometimes being pulled up on what in another place might instantly cost someone their livelihood (by getting fired). It looks to me like you've risk assessed what you do and have found your own balance between so-safe-it's dangerous and down right cavalier. So long as you inform yourself about the risks, then carry on as you are. And if what you're doing is actually dangerous, be glad someone out there cares enough to want to see you make more videos! I agree, KZread ads have become increasingly intrusive over the years. But, it's a business. It exists to make money, and they don't charge content creators to host their videos. Google's electricity bill must be unimaginable. The current subscription model represents poor value for the way I watch, for others it must be just what they need. I'd be happy to pay for ad removal on a pay-as-you-go basis, maybe a few cents per minute or something. Until that happens I'll persevere with the ads as the channels I subscribe to, like your own, are worth the inconvenience. The issue of censoring misinformation at the expense of concealing the truth is a complex one... Thanks Michel.

I hate cheap taps too, I still have some but they are only used to clean up existing threads, especially rusty ones, so I don't screw up my good taps. I've also been through a few angle grinders but not as many as you it seems, lol. I do like to have 4 at a time in my shop though, each is loaded with a different form of abrasive tool (flap wheel, cutoff disc, wire brush, and standard grinding wheel). That is an excellent analogy and to be honest I never thought of it that way. I'm definitely going to use it. 👍👍 Personally I don't mind watching Ads when I know the revenue from those Ads is going to the Creators like yourself, that way they can continue to make the content I enjoy watching. But the issue is the money coming in now isn't going to the creators like it should, its lining their scummy pockets and bypassing the creators which is not right. And to the ppl who would say "oh it's business, they have to make money and Ad Blockers is stealing money from them". I say, youtube made Over _$29 BILLION DOLLARS_ last year before they instituted this ridiculous new Ad Policy which was up from $22 Billion the year prior, they are making plenty of money to keep the platform running and their workers paid! So stop carrying the water for a soulless tech company that continually makes this platform worse with each and every update. Bc they don't give two craps about the Users or the Creators, they've proven this time after time.

Hi Michel. I'm with you on most of the safety sally nonsense regarding angle grinders, and like you I feel that how we use them is entirely our own choice and the responsibility is our own. I consider the guard to *only* be useful for slitting and grinding discs, and *only* to avoid the danger of exploding discs. I've seen quite a few discs let go, as well as a big 300mm bench grinder wheel. All of these were first spinups of the disc (although one of the grinder discs was one that had been used, taken off chucked in the grinder case, bashed about, and then put back on the machine) and *not* whilst using the disc, and by some twist of fate, nobody got badly hurt. Some of them were no-name, some were new out of the box name brand stuff. The grinder wheel was a 300mm norton, it let go about 3 seconds after getting up to speed, quite "exciting" to watch. Moral of the story - sure, you can entice discs to let go, and buying name brand stuff is good policy (although I swear by cheap-as-chips slitting discs from Action), but you never know how badly stuff has been treated before you mount it on the machine. Exercise caution. As for ads, ad blockers *do* still work. There's one in particular, which may or may not have the word "origin" in its name that works spectacularly well. Occasionally youtube will beat the blockers, but a few hours later they work again. KZread have started a war of attrition they cannot win. If they ever manage to totally kill the blockers, they'll lose the users. They're making the classic mistake of making the experience worse for those who pay than for those who don't pay (See Cory Doctorow on the enshittification of the internet). If they carry on like this, something else will take the place of KZread, and all those cat suicides will have been for nothing. Sadly, the thing that replaces youtube probably won't be books, and if it is, we've probably got far bigger things to worry about. Oh, yeah, happy new year, keep on doing what you do.

I find the ads on KZread invasive, so I use an adblocker. I've found whenever I get that annoying pop-up that says something like "It's illegal to use adblockers on KZread" I just hit the refresh button it goes away and I can enjoy the rest of the video. @samrodian9195 ай бұрын

Sorry Michel, but at around 8 minutes you said the guard on an angle grinder was to stop you cutting your fingers. We yes in part it is, BUT it's there to prevent your face and upper body from the flying debris of a grinding wheel if and when it explodes. And if you have worn out 7 of your nine 4.5 " grinders and NOT had a wheel explode, then you are either a very or extremely lucky person. I've had a good number of wheels burst when cutting and I've been uninsured because I still am using the guard. Yes of course on occasions you just Have to remove the guard, because there is not enough room to get the cutting disc in the workspace. That for me is not often and I will remove the guard if I have absolutely need to to get the job done. But for me this is a once a couple of years occurrence. Stay s@fe Michel, I love your offbeat humour and your videos and I look forward to seeing many more in the years to come! Sam from England

I am not against watching an advert at the beginning of video. I did this for a long time. Then the adverts started to get longer and then come in the middle of a video. So I got YT Premium, no adverts. Now the creators are adding sponsored video's in their content sometimes 4 minutes long and not always once. So now it costs £11.99 a month and I still have to put up with adverts. So now I will cancel Premium and watch channels that do not have sponsor videos in them. Its ok with me if creators try to sell a bit of "!merch" but even that is getting a bit intrusive on some channels. Good job on the tool holders. ATB regards from the UK

I have 5 angle grinders at the moment from 100mm, 115mm and 225mm. All have the guards on and some still have the side handle. The 225mm (9") is a Hitachi beast and doesn't have a soft start, so care really is needed with that one. But I'd always go for Makita these days, they really do seem to be the best of the lot. The little M18 Milwaukee battery grinder is a remarkable bit of kit, but I can get 3 Makita for the same price, but then I'm tied to the cable. When I'm using them I pretty well always wear cut resistant gloves and ALWAYS use a face sheild as well as my safety glasses. Too many photos of people with pieces of slitting disk stuck in their face.

How to carve an elephant, remove all the bits that don't look like an elephant...Nothing complicated but it does need some skill. I have a drawer full of grinder guards, only time I had a grinder injury was when using a guard. KZread rant, I fully agree👍 I think it would be a good idea to get a heap of creators to do a similar rant to let the bastards know how much they piss us off. Cheers Rusti, love your work mate 🍺

Hi Michel Happy new year to you, you are correct when you say that your actions are your responsibility, like you I can’t t wear gloves, they get in the way and you loose that fine feeling. Hi Michele. Thank you for the interesting and thought provoking discussion. We all have a responsibility for our own safety in our workshops, and no guard can prevent an idiot with a dangerous tool harming themselves. KZread adverts are indeed a curse, but I do understand that monetisation of channels has to be paid for somehow. I personally would not wish to pay a monthly subscription and therefore I have no option but to endure those adverts which I cannot skip. 🥴

I've paid for KZread Premium for a long time now, so I never see ads, but the creators I enjoy get a bit of income from me. I also get a bit of income from viewers with Premium as well of course. I use an ad blocker on many sites, but not KZread, because I know a lot of creators like me need the advert income to help pay some of the costs of making videos. I only work part time so my income is very limited these days. I limit mid-roll ads to once or twice at sensible points. I know a lot of my viewers are using ad blockers because I see that in the stats, and that's fine with me. I'm very grateful to the folks that do watch a few of the ads, and also to the 20% or so that are paying for Premium.

Im not gonna elaborate on safety here, each one is responsible for his/her safety when working with risky equipment. As for adblockers, some content creators, they seem to have moved their content to other websites or channels that actually doesnt censor so harshly. This may be a consideration if you wish

Thank you for your videos and your recent comments. In the past 90 days the commercial advertising on KZread has become excessive. I don’t think anyone would object to occasional well-targeted ads but they’re now mostly irrelevant very intrusive. In my opinion they are walking a fine line that may boomerang and result in reduced viewership. I eagerly await ad blockers that are able to defeat their detection schemes. Meanwhile I will just complain and continue to watch, at least for a while. But I won’t pay to have the music turned down, to use your analogy. All the best in 2024.

Its not youtube! It is by all the guys that try to make money with ... a big video mass and quality Inflation has began some years ago... every Idiot try to get rich by youtube. And thats why the have to make the money, they sell to the creators! KZread should have a splitt System... that parts the creators from the bullshitters.... I hate it for example, to Listen to calm down music, and in the middle of it comes some comercials in, where to cats fight against a washing machine by techno music.... 😂😂😂😂..... however..... we are part of it, and we want it like that! Nothing comes for free. And watch your channel for 2 minutes of commercial, is easyer than pay 15 Dollar a month for it, because you dont get a pennt for it!!!!!! So i will rather have some commercials, and while it runs, i go for pee..... i would pay 15 a month, if you would get something from it! Stay healthy Michel !

Hi Michel, i agre with you on the guards. There is an inherent risk when using any power tool and while safety is impoertant it should not get in the way of doing the task. In the case of angle grinders i find the guards hamper my visibility and thus are less safe. I can see the need for some ads as running KZread has costs associated with it. But it is certainly at the point where ads are highly intrusive and detract from the enjoyment of watching. There is a tipping point at which people will either not watch or get a blocker. We may already have reached that point for many with more to folow.
