    Greater Good also has a fun combo with Ominous Seas. As soon as you have 8 counters on Ominous Seas you can create a kraken and sac it to Greater Good, drawing you 8 cards and putting 8 counters back on Ominous Seas

    Great list. - Recurring Insight: I sometimes opt for Nezahal instead. - Doom Whisperer: Ridiculous that this card is so low priced still. - Living Death: One of my all time favorites, combine with Doom Whisperer. Honourable mention: Karn Liberated. Personal mention: Manifold Insights. Play for 3 cmc, typically draws me 3 non-land cards chosen by my opponents. Great for politics, tends to always get me gas :p

    The underrated part of Recurring Insight is that you end up with 12ish cards in hand the following turn and you have full access to your mana. With 7 mana and 12 cards you should always be able to do some ridiculous stuff. In my case, swing with Kefnet equipped with Empyrial Plate and Fireshrieker for one shots.

For a while i was just putting it in budget decks because i couldnt think of anything and i had them lying arouind, but now i have started seeing people playing them in my play group and they always make like 10 treasures throughout a game and they get huge. its like creature fall in your creature deck. its just oddly overperformes. also i just grabbed a wargate. nice x3

    Maybe I've been living in the realm of high level commander- cedh for too long, but I don't really shrug at a card until like $40-50 range. It's not that it's not a serious amount of money, but usually I consider a commander deck to be a long-term investment rather than meta chasing . Take your time getting the survivals and natural orders of your deck and substitute with the less versatile/'weaker" options in the meantime.

    So, two questions about Glen Elendra Archmage. If I have Ardent Plea out, and attacked with GEA, does AP mean I can continually sac GEA for countering? What would the timing for that be? And if I have Force of Virtue out, does that mean timing doesn't matter, just repeated use for a blue mana a pop?

  • @NitpickingNerds

    -1/-1 counters are tracked differently than a generic +1/+1 stat boost, Persist will only trigger if the creature DOESN'T have a -1/-1 counter, so it won't come back if it has a -1/-1 counter on it when it dies. But that means you can use something like Good Fortune Unicorn to sac it as many times as you want because + and - counters cancel each other out

    @@NitpickingNerds I'm using it in a Commander deck, my commander is Zur, The Enchanter. I decided to go with Cathar's Crusade, although I saw a blue card that lets me tap to put a +1/+1 on a creature, enchantments are better in a Zur deck. I also already have another enchantment, Ephara's Enlightenment, but that's as bad as another blue creature I saw, pay 3 colorless to put a +1/+1 on target creature. That's the quick fix, the crusade is the reliable fix. I also have the Treasury Thrull and Hall of Helios to protect my enchantments, most notably my game winning one, Near Death Experience. I still have Necropotence in the deck as a last resort, but I intend to win using Stunning Reversal, and most of the rest of my deck is contingencies to protect my game winning cards. With the Archmage and Crusade, 1 blue counters anything.

    While I agree Doom Whisperer is a powerful card, I think it's a niche. You really need to make sure you have healthy lifegain to somehow mitigate the lifeloss lest you get absolutely walloped out of the game when you run out of life and don't hit what you need to. I recently took it out of K'rrik despite it working wonders with Bolas' Citadel and I was dropping to 15 and below, which my opponents promptly took advantage of and killed me. Yes, in theory I could easily win t4 or sooner. In practice, I usually got myself to a really low life total and was promptly reminded why you shouldn't do that. Point is, buy and run Whisperer (and by extension Bolas' Citadel) with caution and lifegain. Don't go willy-nilly. It's a good combo finder for sure at the very least, you just need the life to do the finding.

    I love how City of Brass and Mana Confluence seem the same but differ in nuances. City of Brass doesn't synergize well with Urborg nor with turn into creature effects, but winning off of it on exactly 1 life with the trigger on the stack is the most satisfying thing in all of edh. (Actually not only edh, I won a modern tournament game reanimating Protein Hulk back in the good old days before banning of faithless looting)

    Oracle of Mul Daya?! Have you cracked open too much of the cardboard crack? I still think it is overcosted in mana, even with the playing lands from the top of the library ability. Azusa, Lost but Seeking or Wayward Swordtooth are better options for 3 CMC. Not saying that the Oracle of Mul Daya is bad, but it is not as good as people think it is.

  • @dirtyfrench2926

    I'm with you on this one. I was thrilled to trade Oracle for 30 bucks. Augur of Autumn is a MUCH better card... it's Oracle with additional upside for 1 mana less.

  • @Isolanporzellator

    @Isolanporzellator

    Жыл бұрын

    It's exactly the playing from the top of the library clause that makes Oracle so good. If you throw Azusa in a random green deck and drop it turn 3, it usually ramps you for 1-2 lands before you just run out of lands in your hand to play. In order to make use of the extra land drops consistently, you either need an insane rate of card draw (at 36 lands you'd need to draw 5-6 cards just to be able to drop 2 lands, remember the first one is free even without Azusa) or you need support cards like Crucible of Worlds. Oracle is an entirely different beast. You can literally just shove it into any deck with no support and it will work well just by playing the lands off the top of your deck. The card basically reads "you're never going to have to draw lands again", which means its main function is actually card draw, not ramp. It's Courser of Kruphix + Exploration, which is a combo that takes 2 cards and 4 mana. Oracle doing this in a single card may help to illustrate its power. And that is why it's a staple while Azusa is only really being played in landfall style decks.

  • @dirtyfrench2926

    @dirtyfrench2926

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Isolanporzellator I like how you fail to touch on my point that Augur of Autumn does Oracle's job for less with a potentially huge upside tacked on. Oracle is outclassed and outgunned at this point and is only worth running if you're going deep into ramp/landfall.

  • @Isolanporzellator

    @Isolanporzellator

    Жыл бұрын

    @@dirtyfrench2926 Yes, Augur of Autumn gives the same ability minus Exploration with additional Coven upside. I wouldn't call not talking about it a "failure" as it's not what OP was talking about. Which one is better depends on what type of deck you're playing. If you're playing an aggressive creature deck, by all means play Augur (though my recommendation would be to just play both). If you're more of a value oriented midrange or even control deck, Oracles slow ramp and its ability to not brick when you have 2 lands on top is preferable in my opinion, particularly when the deck is light on creatures. I mostly play grindy decks like Meren or Muldrotha, in which Oracle of Mul Daya is a clearly superior choice (I play both in Meren, but Oracle is generally much better in action). When I do play aggressive I include Augur of Autumn almost every time. It should be noted that Oracle has a much higher tendency of being kill on sight, whereas Augur is often left in play for a while. So depending on your playgroup add a politics point to Augur.
