Welcome to Command & Conquer Remastered! Today's video is aimed to help you get up to speed with learning the basic gameplay and the most vital hotkeys while playing the CNC Remastered Collection! It is important to note that almost every hotkey and game function discussed in this Command & Conquer guide can be utilized in both Tiberian Dawn Remastered and Red Alert Remastered, too! First we talk about the most basic gameplay tips and tricks, and then we move into a more advanced hotkey guide for the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection.
First we start with deploying the MCV, building a power plant, barracks, and building infantry units on Red Alert. With the barracks we discuss basic unit control in Tib Dawn and Red Alert. Then we'll discuss the importance of miners and ore refinery placement. The Radar is up next with the importance of scouting and basic use of the mini map. I mention how power is the most important resource in Command & Conquer, and is one of the most valuable gameplay tips to keep in mind. The hotkeys get pretty in depth but represent a vital but not exhaustive guide to the most important hotkeys you can use in both Red Alert and Tiberian Dawn.
Command & Conquer Remastered launches today, June 5th, 2020 worldwide. The game was a conglomeration between EA and Petroglyph games, made up in part by some of the former Westwood Studios developers that created the C&C franchise! Command and Conquer was originally launched in 1995, and Red Alert 1 in 1996. I personally became involved with the Command & Conquer Remastered collection's reboot of Command & Conquer and Red Alert in November of 2018 as a member of what would become the Community Council.
Be sure to subscribe for more Command & Conquer Remastered Collection content of both Command & Conquer and Red Alert videos!

    I think It would be great to have RA2:YRs system so when using the building tab key again while having the building tab open should allow you to place the constructed building. Having to memorize invidivual buttons for placing each building is a bit much, IMO.

    A couple more tips: When you go into low power, your buildings will slowly start to take damage. It isn't a lot, but it'll accumulate if you take too long to restore power. This doesn't apply to your power plants or (I think) your construction yard. Another is that if you can sell vehicles if you have them on the repair pad. You'll know that you're going to sell the vehicle because the sell icon will change from gold to green. There is also a "move in formation" hotkey for control grups (alt+f by default) that forces your units to move at the speed of the slowest unit in the group, which is useful for keeping your units from getting too spread out. I think this feature is exclusive to Red Alert.

  • @Nyerguds

    @Nyerguds

    Жыл бұрын

    Another fun trick: low power only has an effect on new constructions you start. Constructions that are already running will not be affected by it (though the next one in a build queue will, of course). And power usage is only added after the building's deploy animation finishes. This means that if you built something expensive and want to place it down, but you know this will give you low power but don't want to cancel it and waste the invented time, you can place down the building, and within its build-up time, start the construction of a new power plant. The power plant will build at full speed, allowing you to resolve the low power as quickly as possible.

    You don't need silos in either game if you "process" the tiberium or ore by building an expensive building then cancelling when it's complete. This will convert the price of the building from tiberium or ore into money. It protects your funds from being destroyed when the enemy destroys a silo or refinery.

  • @Nyerguds

    @Nyerguds

    4 жыл бұрын

    Overall, having a few silos is always good to have a buffer to make sure you don't lose any money. But a buffer was always the only thing they were meant to be; if you have too much money you're simply not building enough actual stuff to attack with.

  • @adennjusik5455

    @adennjusik5455

    4 жыл бұрын

    The lack of that content is because the economy and army management systems are very basic in the 1st 2 C&C games. Build a refinery as close to the resource patches as you can (as stated in the video), build a 2nd gathering vehicle, if the map is resource rich you can double up on refineries (x2) and gathering vehicles (x4) and still be cost efficient. Army management is a simple "rock,paper,scissors" affair. If the enemy masses tanks either mass rocket/grenade infantry or mass tanks yourself. If infantry massing, mass vehicles and micro them to squish the enemy. If air unit massing, you mass rocket infantry or anti air defense buildings. If you face Allied Naval units, Mass Navy or Air Units yourself. Micro your infantry to prevent enemy vehicle squish. Enemy gathering units or production structures are targets of opportunity.

    - You should have mentioned that you can actually set the action button from left click to right click, so it feels like regular RTS games. - Light tanks (or Soviet heavy tanks) make better scouts than infantry. They have longer sight range, move faster and are tough enough to take a few hits and return home. - All tanks can crush infantry, but some vehicles such as the Allied Ranger or Soviet V2 cannot.

    A tip that's mostly really useful for campaign missions is that the ore/tiberium grows to neighboring tiles, but only if that tile is saturated and the neighbor is empty. As such you can really stretch what cash you get out of a field by harvesting it in a diagonal criss-cross pattern, trying not to harvest tiles unless they have 0 empty neighbors. You will end up harvesting all of it anyway (after the empty tiles around get seeded by minimal amounts of resources - that's good enough, you can harvest the full ones now), just in a different order, but in a while the field will recover for being harvested again if you wait for that. And even if you don't and just harvest it bare, you'll still end up with more money this way. This level of micromanagement is not really viable to keep up forever, especially if things get hectic (and sometimes you just need the cash NOW, rather than trying for a long term sustainable resource management strategy, in which case just harvest it all), but you can still get a lot of benefit if you just move your harvesters elsewhere when you notice they're leaving significant holes in a resource field. It also helps that their AI usually likes to harvests diagonally by default (their primary preference is I believe to move to the highest yield neighbor tile next, unless there's multiple equal ones in which case they prefer to go diagonally). Also gems don't spread so they're just blockers while on the ground, so try to start with collecting those, especially if they're woven into a regular resource field.

  • @Nyerguds

    @Nyerguds

    Жыл бұрын

    An interesting trick I used in some missions was to place some vehicles on my ore field so the ore under them wasn't harvested away and would act as spawn point for more ore. It helps a lot if there are no ore mines around. Also note, due to a bug in the harvesting logic, the very lowest growth stage of ore (and tiberium) actually gives nothing when harvested. So it's always better to leave it to grow more.

Maybe it has something to do with the moment where you use it. If you use it outside of a combat it works well. Inside a battle not so well. Just a guess. But like I said I noticed it doesn't work perfectly.

  • @Nyerguds

    @Nyerguds

    4 жыл бұрын

    As Bryan said, RA doesn't do automated attack move, and instead chose to specifically go for a micro-intensive way to do that. Having real attack move would defeat the point of Q micromanagement. You can use ctrl+alt+click to target the ground, but it's not really attack move, more of a targeted area guard. They'll only attack things around the target area, not along the path.

I've been more into Tiberian Sun onward, so my first real day of playing this game against my friends, I gotta ask since this is my biggest complaint about the game: How the hell do you establish a stable economy? It seamed like no matter what we did, all of my friends and I were struggling with economy AND eating up all the Tiberium on the map at the same time, and Tiberium grows back VERY slowly.

    Regarding red alert 1 @3:00 , dont always Buy silo’s, instead buy an expensive structure, And cancel it when Its ready to place. The green bar of the öre refinery drops back when You spend money. But doesnt ‘Grow back’ when You are able to undo the investment like in the buying the structure thing. This way your Money is not in silo’s in your base But safe in your bank account. You can store a lot of money in the bank this way Just repeat the Buy And sell before playing the structure process over And over.

    Is there an attack move? What does alt+ctrl do?

  • @Nyerguds

    @Nyerguds

    4 жыл бұрын

    Ctrl+Alt is basically "guard target". It makes units guard the area around the targeted spot or object. It will not make them attack enemies along the way to that target, though. It's more or less a one-click way of ordering your units to move to a position, waiting until they arrived there, and then putting them on Area Guard mode. The main advantage of ctrl+alt+click is that they will attack enemies inside that area without necessarily having reached the center of that area first.

    Yes, the default hotkey for deploying units is the '/' key. You'll probably want to remap that to something else though, as it's kind of inconvenient. Like Bryan, I would suggest the "d" key.

    2:40 I'm having problems like 10 mins into the game with the economy and all ores seems to be gone at some point which stales the game to an extreme. Is this because I start out with 3-5 ore miners and forget silos? I've only played C&C 3 where the ore (tiberium) miners would get stuck without enough silos.

    Thing that put me off about the remaster on my initional playthrough. Not being able to select the Structures hotkey when a structure is complete to quick place (like in Red Alert2/YR). Instead they have spread them out and individualised them for no other reason that idk AoE2:DE did it? They should please for the love of god just make it so selecting the structures tab with the hotkey will automatically make placing the built structure available. You can't right scroll mouse on the map when looking for somewhere to place a building and have the placement marker stick with you. It simply cancels the placement meaning you have to go back to the icon once you've scrolled and found a suitable location. Of course this can be fixed with the individualised hotkeys they've added in but as I've mentioned I'm not fond of that and prefer the one-click type method in RA2. And no waypointing for buildings? Have I missed something here!? Seems like a silly little thing they missed out, This should certainly get patched in? Also, repaired units just continue to sit on the repair bay which might make you think it's still being repaired if you don't pay much attention to it. Furthermore, this completely STOP queues of damaged units from getting repaired. If you are in an high intensity game and you send off 4 thanks for a squad of say 10 to get repaired before the next attack wave comes then you are completely screwed given how buy you are counter-attacking, base building, resource securing and everything else C&C demands. Solution? Add waypoints. Please for the love of god add way point and single button completed structure selection RA2 style. So far the feels good, it's reminicent, but it's definitely annoying my RA2 controlling habits.

As I was about to destroy the first enemy AI, the AI did the "I fuck, I got nothing" sells and gives up. @@legslarrysmith_ disagree on the repair bay thing. They can queue onto the repair bay, and will move off when finished to make room for a new way, but a single unit moving off is a bad idea since it obstructs the feature to sell units on the repair bay. They did this in TS and it made the unit selling function insanely tedious; you basically had to damage your unit just so you could sell it.

    If you got a controller that works on PC, and can be mapped to normal PC controls like mouse and keyboard buttons, I guess you could. But there's no specific support for it.
