I'm 57 ans was 6 when my mother bought a 1971 Marquis Brougham like this -- metallic blue with black vinyl top. Beautiful car. My dad bought one used in 1976 when we were living overseas. We flew into California to start our annual U.S. vacation and my dad went shopping and found a Maroon colored one just like this one a day or two after we arrived in LA. He picked it up pretty cheap, low miles and like new condition. We drove it all over and sold it in Texas 3 or 4 weeks later when we had to go back overseas. I remember riding in that car, so quite, so smooth and powerful. I also think it was built with quality that might have been at or reaching its peek. My dad was a huge Lincoln-Mercury fan and would own several Marks III, Mark IV and Mark V Continentals and Town cars but finally switched (back to Cadillac) after horrible problems with his 81 Continental.

I owned this very car only in blue. It was a gift to me for college in 1979 for my grandfather. And you’re right that 429 two barrel carburetor worked just fine. You could put your foot in it and you would burn the tires off the back in. As far as the smoothness of the ride it was second to none I remember a friend of mine the very first time we got together he was taking me to his home to see about me sharing it and we went up this terrible road and unbeknownst to me there was a set of railroad ties and he suddenly screamed so down and I said what are you talking about? We went over those railroad tracks and I didn’t even know they were there and he looked at me and said I don’t believe this car. Many great trips were taken in the car. I literally drove the wheels off of it. Too bad we’re so stupid when we’re young. Thank you for posting this brought back a lot of good memories

My Dad bought one of those in the summer of 1971-a Marquis Brougham-brand new-for $3921.00-the sticker was well into the $7K range & he got the dealer down that far-I know -I was there ! I was almost 10 so I remember it vividly ! What a land yacht it was-light tan color-almost a yellow-chocolate brown vinyl roof & interior with the Twin Comfort lounge seats. Ours had the auto temp A/C-AM/FM Stereo, cruise control, tilt wheel,-power EVERYTHING-windows, driver's seat, doors-which were vacuum powered-FoMoCo loved vacuum power ! We took it on several roaders up to San Francisco & points north from San Diego-what a cruiser. Comfort & absolute dead QUIET. It too had the 429-2V -2 barrel carb & it got 10-12 MPG whether in town or on the road. The 1st. oil crisis in Oct. 73 hastened it's departure from our family-I still have a warm fuzzy for it-thanks for the memories !

My Mom got a 1972 MMB in 1974 when I was in second grade. It was also green, but lighter with gold metallic. It was called “gold-green.” It really was beautiful. Seeing the interior of this one takes me back. I’m sure it’s identical except ours had the full split bench. She got several cadillacs in the 80’s-90’s, but kept this one until 1986. My sister hated it. She called it “The Green Machine.”

Wow! What a gorgeous automobile!
What a beauty!!!! The color, the luxury!!! Ohh man!!! Congrats for your car.
My Dad' had a brown one like this! I Loved This Car! Nothing Can Compare! ❤️❤️❤️
I grew up in one like that!--My father had the same car, and I just remember the famous old TV ads back then with a man cutting a diamond in the back saying "it's perfect, it's beautiful"--while riding over a rough road 😂
This brings back memories, my mother had a 72' Brougham she bought new and I remember taking a trip from Virginia to Disney World when I was 13.
Filming and driving. What a genius.
As a performance car enthusiast myself I would gravitate towards old station wagon’s and sedans like this at a car show what a fine specimen, thanks!
One of my favorite, if not the favorite, years for big Mercs. 1968 is the other, for different reasons.
Best car I had the privilege of riding in was a new 1969 Lincoln Continental 4dr. That car rode like it was on air .. & silent. You heard nothing from road, tires or exhaust. Super Sweet Ride!
These kind of videos tell you how far we've digressed in society in 50 years, to go from driving such extremely beautiful luxurious cars to the junk boxes on wheels today.
Those headlight doors give the Marquis Brougham the look of a contented cat. Relaxed, comfortable and not a worry in the world.
We had the exact year and color when I was a kid. It was my dad’s all time favorite. It was a big thing back in the day. Very stylish.
The Mercury Marquis was a heavy, cushy, very quiet, floating land yacht luxury highway cruiser. I do miss them.
Just like my dad’s right down to the colour. We were in Toronto by coincidence. I was 9 years old when he got it. Great memory. Thanks!
Ok I'm totally hypnotised. Vehicles like these were just such intense beauty.
Just GORGEOUS... Congrats. ;)
What a delectable ride! Would love having one of those Mercs. And you're right, A fall cruise at dusk is a magical thing.
Big cars like this are a joy to drive! I miss my 73 Thunderbird
Lovely car. Thanks very much for the ride along.
This virtual ride was delightful. Thank you. I covet every car you show us. This one for sure.
Wonderful epitome of American Wealthy cool. Well done. Much admiration from Downunder. Style and Class at this level ain't easy and takes a lot of dedication and commitment.. Respect!.
Hey Adam, I'm glad that you had the dental work done on this beautiful car & was able to find a grill. 1971 is the best year for the Marquis Brougham!!! The best car my dad ever owned was a midnight blue Marquis Brougham with a black vinyl top & interior with those oh so comfortable high back twin comfort lounge seats!!! Thanks for sharing this fun video!!! 👍👍🙂
Thank you very much I love your classic cars they had a soul in them
LOVE the central brake lights. I didn't know they had those.
Lovely car. Looks so elegant.
I look forward to your videos, your vids about the cars you own impressed me to the point of purchasing 1970 Mark 3 what a car, best built car I have ever owned. Just a thanks for all your research on these vehicles. Great job.

Drives great, doesn’t it? Those Mark IIIs are the best there are.
In my opinion this particular model is the best looking Mercury ever made
Adam! You're killin' me, man!! Reminding me of my long-gone youthful years and my (painfully present) old age. I look forward to your postings but at the same time I know they'll make me sorrowfully nostalgic. Thanks for finding and preserving these automotive masterpieces.
Love the slow driveby. Brings back memories.
When I watched this last night it made me remember as a kid how big and ugly this car was to me at that time. I didn't see many but a couple of them were around in my GM town. Now, older and wiser one can easily understand and appreciate its place in history and the engineering effort put into this luxurious vehicle. So nice that some of these have been preserved.
Beautiful car. Thanks for the cruise down memory lane.
Of all the cars you have your 1971 Mercury Marquis and your 1965 Pontiac Bonneville Brougham are my top favorites.
Goodday Adam, What a great video, the big Mercury looks sensational from all angle & super quiet & smooth to drive. Just live the scenery, looks like a very nice part of America where you live. Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤
Next to the 1970 Caprice I think this Marquis is my favorite car you’ve shown. Just love the style of that car. Great lighting signature at twilight with the light bar in back, parking light reflector detailing in front stands out. Always loved that model year since they were new. Looked like more money than they cost.

I agree that light bar at the back is fantastic. With the hidden headlights at the front the styling on this car is way above its class.
Very enjoyable ride thanks for sharing! I'm 57 and I remember riding in my father's 1972 Mercury Montego, back when I was a 7-year-old kid, and this looks a lot like that.

My aunt and uncle had a Montego wagon. They were nice 'intermediate' cars that would probably fit in the trunk of this Marquis.
Thank you for the twilight drive .... such a sweet, sweet smooth drive ❤
I miss those tuna boats. Thanks.
One of my favorite model years from Mercury👍
The Dashboard design is stunning. But so is the rest of the car too. The coupe version is pretty wild too with the trunk seemingly going on forever.
Wow. That's almost exactly like the one I drove as a teenager. My dad had a '71 Marquis Brougham in pale blue with blue interior. Same 429-2V engine. I still think it's one of the prettiest full size cars of the era, even prettier than the same year Lincoln Continental.
Now this is what I like. Regular, everyday cars that are pampered and cherished. Bonus that it's a four door!
Those garage doors on that house @ 2:31...👍 I just love those green 1970s interiors! I had a '79 LTD coupe with an all green interior, pastel green paint, and a dark green Landau top. It donated its 302 to my '82 Mustang GT...
Beautiful merc. Definitely one of my favorites in your Fleet. When I was a kid growing up in the early seventies my neighbor had a Mercury Marquis just like that one. It was chocolate brown with brown interior. Even as a little kid I always liked that car.
Takes me back to my childhood. You can't get a car that rides that smooth anymore
My uncle had this 1971 beauty also (different color ..it was like a dark copper color. ..429 also) and he gave it to his son ( my cousin), and it is what he drove in high school....then college. ...and still has it to this day.
Can see why U wud be so reluctant to part with this one, Adam...A Truly Luxurious Automobile😊🤲
I like this POV video for some reason. 👀 Not just the car, but the scenery.
I really miss these days when driving a car was like sitting on your living room couch, floating down the road!
Had that EXACT car, just different color.. Ranked right up there with my '73 Continental.., which actually resembled a Spaceship when driving.. They really don't make them like this.., anymore..
Awesome Adam love your collection of these fine land yacht’s of am era gone by. It’s so sad what the automotive industry has turned into everything is the same now with the same boring styling and driving experience. Thanks for sharing!
This is my favorite car in your collection. Just elegant. When this car hit the street, I was a high school senior, and a twilight drive in one would certainly make me smile.
Awesome Car! I remember riding in these as a Kid but never have I ever seen those front seats! Those are awesome. Ford was way ahead of the times with those seats. I knew very wealthy business Men through my Father that would always buy a Mercury. They thought there were much better cars than the Lincoln.
This is my favorite of all the cars you have shown so far. Love it! We had exactly this car when I was a kid. Just beautiful.
Beautiful car.Exactly the car that I used to borrow from my mom when I was 17. Brought back great memories. Thanks
Beautiful and I love the colour. I agree re twilight. Seeing these cars with their parking lights and side markers really gives them a low, long look. Just as a car should be.
this was a very enjoyable video, please keep posting vids like this!
It was almost like being there.
What a beautiful old car. Thanks for sharing.
What an amazing car! I would love to take a cross country drive in that!
Simply sublime. I would rather own this than even the most expensive Rolls Royce!
I like a lot of cars and I drive BMWs. But I must say, any land-yacht with fender-skirts from the 70s... so classy, so gorgeous!
Co-opting "Every Inch a Buick" late '60s tag line: 1971-2 big Mercurys have Every Inch presence, '71 front & rear preferable to me. Thanks from Canada for preserving this beaut.
I love your idea of a Terrible Road. Come to Fitchburg, Ma. That Rd you’re on is better then our Best Rd.
This brought me joy. Thanks for posting.
Such a beautiful and handsome car, and I love the color and the interior. You're so lucky to own this 🙂
There's no green like the 70's :-)
Like these old Mercs , treasure
Canada , Saskatchewan, the prairies. Hello from that place. Haha Beautiful car. Love it ❤
Both quiet AND silent. Holy cow AND sacred bovine.
Beautiful - just beautiful.
I learned to drive in one of those ! 1972 version. Loved it !
Fabulous car and so relaxing to ride along at twilight time. Great idea.
Very cool intro with just the parking lights on -gives this car a very sinister look. Very nice cruiser🙂

Took me back to the late 70's when I was a cool kid cruising around at dusk in my '78 Trans Am with just the park lights on
Even in this days I really wish the cars they were still made like this beauty you drive
What a beautiful example of a 1970's car. And that particular model was one of my very favorites back then. I was in high school at the time and instead of the muscle cars that were so popular, I was intrigued by these "land yachts". And you're so right about the evening drives. There's something about twilight that really adds to the mood.

Steve McGarrett drove a black one.
A very pleasant drive in a beautiful car! And I noticed the clock ticking away.... wonderful!
Oh, Babe!! Turn up the volume to the max to hear this beauty start up!! This car is from MY YEAR! ♥♥
Dude man that's the car I want , great car don't ever sell that ride.
I've always been a bit of a closet liker of those late 60s early seventies American barges. We didn't see them very much here in NZ, and probably aren't best suited to our narrow windy roads. These videos are very interesting, going into the weird and wonderful details like hydraulically operated wipers (which I've never heard of before! ), and the presentation is excellent. subscribed.
The president of the college my wife and I graduated from drove one of these. The ride was overwhelming but if you drove it over 100mph the gas went quick😵 What a joy to drive.
