Same in South Africa. My girlfriend and I still say 'Ciao Romano. Ciao Maurizio.' when one of us goes out for something.

nostalgic commercial ever, i remember back then in my elementary days that some of my school mates used to called a foreigner guy by the name "HI JOE, JOE ROMANO!!" then laughing 🤣🤣🤣 then the foreigner guy got confused 🤣🤣🤣

I have a cousin whose name is jo kristie, some of my cousins call her jo and I used to call her Ate kristie (like a big sister) my cousins would tease her and call her Jo Romano as inspired from this commercial.. haha good times 1997 is quite a long time ago

Because of this commercial, the kids in the Philippines say 'hey joe!' to white people when they see them when it's actually ciao!

Hey Joe or Joe is an expression left over from WWII, a “term of endearment” for American soldiers (G.I. Joe). After this commercial kids added Romano after Joe. Joe Romano. Hahaha.
