What We Do in the Shadows is a 2014 New Zealand found footage horror comedy film about a group of vampires who live together in Wellington. Directed and written by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, who also star in the film, it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2014
Release
The film was released in a limited release on February 13, 2015 in New York and Los Angeles, followed by a rare screening in San Francisco, Irvine, Philadelphia, Boston, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. The film received a regional release in the U.S. in March 2015, by Unison Films in association with Funny or Die and Paladin Pictures.
Critical response
What We Do in the Shadows received very positive reviews from critics and has a "Certified Fresh" score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 118 reviews with an average rating of 7.8 out of 10. The critical consensus states "Smarter, fresher, and funnier than a modern vampire movie has any right to be, What We Do in the Shadows is bloody good fun." The film also has a score of 75 out of 100 on Metacritic based on 31 critics indicating "generally favourable reviews.
Fearnet called the film "a great vampire comedy". Film School Rejects wrote a predominantly positive review, commenting that some of the film's broader moments fell flat but compared it favorably to similar mockumentaries such as Best in Show. The film was warmly received by UK newspapers, with The Guardian's film critic Peter Bradshaw describing it as "the best comedy of the year", while The Telegraph's Tim Robey found it "desperately funny".
Film International, in a positive review, commended the film for noting, with a double of Count Orlok locked in the vampires' basement, that the true vampire film tradition is repressed by the current craze.
Variety was more critical, writing that "Some genre fans who prefer the silly to the satiric may bite, but the anemic pic isn’t remotely weird or witty enough for cult immortality.

@@TheLast2Say IKR? Deacons familiar Jackie was one of the best things...But just the whole film...Its just perfect! Shame they didnt just carry on the film as the TV series.... and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou and most of all, Kayvan Novak...but the script is just appalling. These brilliant actors carry the whole thing and stop it from being unwatchable.

@@LusciousTwinkle yeah I think the problem with the show is it’s a documentary but doesn’t stick to it being a documentary while the movie does. In the show the characters are WAY to similar to each other while in the movie they are very different. It’s annoying the show gets a higher rating then the movie because the show is apparently better? ITS NOT!!!! THE MOVIE RULEZ!

With English subtitles, but they cut it off so you can’t see the subtitles lol. And they cut the ending off. Also, I love this film so much. The series is great too.

@@uncleowen8011 where do you live cause I know more petes, peter than most names. Even on family guy his name is Peter lol. We have a bar called Pete's, I went to school with 3 peters, I have a uncle named pete. It's definitely a pretty common American name.

@@dontcare7086 yeah I have no idea what kind of mentality I was in when I wrote this. I’ve only known the southern states and not one out of the hundreds of people I’ve met were named Peter. I bet if I went to New York or Philadelphia peters would be falling out of the sky.

It does come back, a pity though. Been hard finding this online. I was looking at the party quests at the end to see if any government ministers were present. The guy that begs in Cuba street was there, I didn't know he was a zombie, that explain the stench that surrounds him like a fog of rotting meat.
