Onew and Jjong both have this quality, i noticed it 100 years ago. Their raw voices are very nuanced and have a very broad emotional spectrum, and a detailed storytelling rendition. The studio version "evens out" the sound to a neutral point, erasing the emotional nuance and a lot of the vocal detailing.
