Uchtred MacDowall a Scottish nobleman, and my tenth great grandfather, who lived in the 16th century. He was a Laird of Garthland and was involved in the Raid of Ruthven in 1582. The group of nobles would gather at Ruthven and plot what each of them would do and how it was to be done. Uchtred was later pardoned for his involvement in the raid and the conspiracy was forgiven and he was given his lands and a charter from the king for the barony of Cornwall and that of Garthland. That is how I am here to write this. In 1729 my family came to America on the George and Ann. Thank you for sharing this video!!!

Thank you so much for making and sharing this video. The Ruthvens are my ancestors and I have visited this castle. The grounds look different. I have studied the family history for years now during this Reformation period and hope to write a historical novel about the family of Patrick Ruthven, his son and heir Patrick, then his brother William, and William's sons. William and wife Dorothea Stewart had 14 children; 5 boys and 9 daughters. The daughters were all married well and were ladies in waiting to Queen Anne of Denmark who was married to King James VI. Thanks again. They owned several castles. Their lothian seat was Dirlton Castle overlooking the south side of the Forth River near the mouth of the river. ❤

@@OnMistyMountains Thank you. The name of the green lady is not Dorothea as popularly told. Dorothea married and had a wonderful life. There are actually two green ladies in Ruthven Castle! I will include their names and story in my book. Yes, it was Dorothea who jumped the maiden's Leap, so that part is mostly true. The rest of the story will be in my book which will be heavily documented with authentic ancient sources.😃

Such an informative tour ~ thank you! 😊 I enjoyed seeing the inside- the layout and spiral staircase. I bet the acoustics are very good at Huntingtower Castle too! 🎶 The paintings on the ceiling were so unique. I’m only a little familiar with tempera painting, but I believe some of the Russian Orthodox monasteries used this style for painting icons. Thank you for sharing, Elena! Well done ❤️

You're very welcome! Glad you found it interesting. 😊 They do weddings at the castle. I'm sure the acoustics are great for that. But i love the idea of having a little chamber orchestra or choir perform. There is indeed a lot of reverb. I think you're right about the icons. Reading about it, it sounds like a pretty painstaking process, having to paint lots of layers.

I think it is a disgrace that such historical monuments to our history are allowed to rot away like this when there are plenty of funds available through tourism to repair restore and rebuild these places in the interests of our heritage education and civilisation. Nice video Subscribed.

I suspect the financial situation is more complicated considering Historic Scotland has closed so many properties for repair and is not hiring more staff to have places open, at least compared to before 2020. I do hope though that in the future more money will make its way to the monuments that need it.
