Second episode of our cooking tournament. Only the housemates' marks are taking in account. The guests can give a mark of course but it's only for fun !
Ingredients for 4 people
5 eggs
500 g of strong all-purpose flour (Austrian flour type 480)
125 ml water
Pinch of salt,
300 g of the strongest cheese you can find
Ground pepper
1 onion
apples
KÄSSPÄTZLE
Knead the eggs, flour, salt, and some lukewarm water into smooth dough. The dough should
have a texture between liquid and firm. Using a Spätzle device, grate the dough into the
boiling water. As soon as the Spätzle rise to the water surface, strain them out of the water.
Layer together the Spätzle and cheese bit by bit in a bowl.
ONIONS
Heat up oil in a small pan. Roast the onions until golden brown. Ensure that the onions do
not get too browned. This means removing the light brown onions from the pan and using
kitchen roll to soak up the grease. Garnish the Kässpätzle with the browned onions. Season
with pepper.
APPLESAUCE
Peel, core, and slice apples into small chunks. Transfer to a large saucepan or pot.
Add in water, sugar, and cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil over high heat and then reduce the
heat to low. Cover and let simmer 20-30 minutes until apples are soft.
Puree using a blender, or immersion blender for a smoother applesauce.
