I'm in Georgia and zone 8A too. Last year i started my own slips and planted purple and regular orange ones and had a good harvest!! Was so fulfilling to eat my very own produce. This year I started my Koreans, regular orange, purple and added a few Jamaican sweet potatoes too. All in containers again this year.

Awsome video Orleans Sweet Potato It has a 90 day maturity date similar to Beauregard and a similar disease-resistance like Beauregard sweet potato plants and Ipomoea batatas 'Evangeline' is a premium orange flesh sweet potato variety. It has deep orange flesh and a beta carotene content 40% greater than the standard variety 'Beauregard'. The skin is slightly red at harvest but fades to rose in storage. The flavor is unique. Both of them a love too grow and white sweet potato are good too

6:21 Broadcast wood ash and phosphorus-(bone meal). Wood ash has potassium, calcium and magnesium. (Don’t add high nitrogen, you want nutrients to go to roots, not leaf making) If you are in a high rain or water area. Hill the bed for better drainage. This way the potatoes won’t crack or mold from too much water. Plant slips one foot apart. 16:03 He is currently planting Beauregard & Corrine sweet potatoes. 19:47 Potatoes love LOOSE soil to plant in. Compact soil will make them deformed. 21:24 Plant at about 3-6” deep. 26:06 He is in planting zone 8a. Sweet potatoes love heat and the sun. May 15 is approx date he usually plants. This is a week later, the 21st. 90-120 days till harvest. Corrines take about 150 days till harvest. They both need sun! 29:29 You will always be learning! (How true) 30:29 Pray over your garden 🙏 (Amen! God is good ! Also makes me appreciate Gods creation and how it is set up to provide food for us from generation to generation. Thank you Lord.) 37:19 can store up to 6 months Proverbs 6:6-11 (Now you can screenshot for your notes.)

Sometimes we have to take measures into our own hands! Buy some organic sweet potatoes from the store and "plant" them half covered in soil. The slips will begin to emerge after a while. You just continue to pop those slips off as they get 4-6 inches long. That's what we do for our Korean sweet potato slips. Just didn't have the time to do that for Beauregard this year since we usually can find those pretty easily. Next year we will start all of our own slips though. You can do it!

Lay sweet potatoes in a tray of soil and cover lightly with soil....keep moist in a warm place and you'll get tons of sprouts ......takes 5-8 weeks and keeps on sprouting !! Snap the sprouts off the potato and root them in water.....takes about 5 days to root. You'll have more then enough slips !! At an average price of $1 per slip you'll save a lot of $.

As I understand, they are like vines that you can keep cutting and rooting. So you can get an infinite number... the only thing is you will run out of time because sweet potatoes require a long hot weather growing season.

Yes, I use about 18-20 slips from one potato. But it keeps putting on new slips. I do not have space to plant them all.

Awesome! Our’s had stopped selling slip bundles of about 15 in a shallow pan of water a few years ago for a few dollars. I was surprised to see them again a few weeks ago in soil, 6-packs for about $4 per pack. But I guess that's better than nothing for those uncomfortable with growing slips. Inflation on steroids!😮
