Come along for the ride as we take on the Durango & Silverton Rail Road.

We travel north in our 1930 Model A Ford from Arizona to Durango, Colorado to ride the Durango & Silverton narrow gauge rail road. This magnificent steam trail has been in operation since 1882, traveling up Animas River Canyon between Durango and the mines of Silverton Colorado. Come along as we ride this amazing historical train and observe the breathtaking scenery of Southwest Colorado.

Thank you Steve, Glad you enjoyed it. We had a great time on the train, even though our trip was cut short by the rock slide. The railroad did refund a partial payment for the shorter trip.

This was nice to see. My wife and volunteer at Railtown 1897, in Jamestown,Ca. It was interesting to see they double up the locomotives for part of the trip then continue on with just one. Looks really fun. Hope to get there someday. Thanks for taking us along.!

Cal, you have a sharp eye, I noticed the loss of a locomotive while editing the video. I can only assume they disconnected the one while we made a water stop, and it went on up ahead. It was at the “Y” turn around, but stayed behind once we left. Thanks for watching. Appreciate it.

What a bummer.. not to be able to make the entire trip! I have ridden the D&SNG twice when I lived in Colorado. The eerie sound the train whistle makes when it comes out of the canyon into the narrow valley where Silverton is, just remembering it gives me goose bumps. It echoes off the walls of the valley, which in the 1880's would mean so much more to the residents of Silverton, as the train was the primary way of getting there.. or getting out. Thanks for the great video and the memories it brings back to me.

Man oh man your videos are awesome, loved seeing the back country and the whistle blowing was a great way to end the video. If you ever make to WV don’t miss the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park.

Take is ride on this historic train soon before the river washes the track rightofway into the river. Just like what happen in Minnesota. Water can be powerful.

Hello Martin, After 150 years I’m sure they’ve rebuilt sections more than once. The rails are high above for most of the run, but as you’ve seen there are sections right along the swift moving water. And the rock sides are obviously a on going issue, Thanks for watching.

Festerhairball, This is one of the best steam train rides in the country. The scenery is incredible the entire distance. Usually you go to Silverton which is an amazing town by itself. I’ve ridden this train a few times now and have never been disappointed. Highly recommend if you’re ever in Southwestern Colorado.

Hello Dean, Getting the silver ore to the processor is pretty motivating! But your point is spot on, the amount of work, done completely by hand labor is incredible. Thank you for watching and for your comment.
