combining two thrift finds to make the dress of my dreams
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Sew a bohemian dreamy dress yourself! No patterns, no measurements, no skills required. Very easy tutorial on how to make your own boho flowy dress with bell sleeves out of a thrifted shirt and maxi skirt. I want to show how easy it is to make yourself something that you would love and wear and help the planet by upcycling old items of clothing. Think creatively and don't be afraid to make mistakes. Every mistake is either fixable or not noticeable for other people's eyes. Refashioning is easy and fun and you absolutely can do it!
You don't even need the sewing machine if you don't have one, you can sew everything by hand which will take a lot more time, but it is absolutely possible.

Hi, I just have one small suggestion I didn't see mentioned in the video and that is seam finishing. I'm speaking from experience of the heartbreak of having a garment I worked hard on fall to unsalvagable bits when I washed it because the fabric frayed to the seams. A french seam would work great on this light fabric or you can always "over lock" with a zig zag stitch along the edge of the fabric or invest in a overlock foot which honestly just looks a bit neater but serves the same purpose as a simple zig zag. These don't cut the fabric like an overlock machine but "seals" that edge so it will hold up to many washings in the same way. Some fabrics are worse than others for fraying but I've learned it's better to be safe than sorry. Anyway I love the dress it turned out beautifully and so did the video. Thank you and I hope I didn't come across as critical, I just felt the need to share my experience so others can hopefully avoid this heartbreaking mistake I still get a pang in my heart when I think about taking that tattered skirt out of the wash.

thank you so much for such an insightful comment, I really appreciate it! You are very right in everything you say and I agree with you 100%. With more and more pieces I make I pay more attention to finishing details and back then it was still the very beginning of my journey so I was lazy and it is not very beneficial. At the same time I think sometimes all the finishing might seem intimidating for people who just want to make their first garment and doesn't know much about sewing, so maybe simplifying it to the most basic construction steps might be helpful to them and with time they will come to finishing steps naturally as I did. Yeah, our first pieces will probably fall apart with time, but we live, learn and fix it lol. After all, my main goal is to get people into sewing and show that it is not as complicated as it might seem at first so we can reduce the waste of clothing on our planet. Again, I very much appreciate your comment and your care! It didn't come off as critical at all, I felt only love reading through it! And by what I said I didn't mean to disagree with you, just wanted to explain my thinking process and experience behind it
So lovely! Watching this helped me with ideas and was so peaceful. Thank you.

@@MayLina Yess ! Can totally agree that what is usually discarded as unusable can be easily modified for reuse and with creativity it can be better than original. I actually guessed about the bleach for changing the shade of the pattern :D

Excelente. Parabéns pelo conteúdo.
I love this sosososo much thank you for such a beautiful video. Something I noticed is the direction you place your pins, my gramma taught me that if you place them the opposite way shown in this vid, which would be the sharp end facing the machine and the round end facing you :), they're easier to slip out and keep sewing! (unless of course you just don't prefer that way, just something I noticed that may help!) So happy I found your channel, all the love your way

Yes, I truly Enjoyed your video - so a voice over would only add to it certainly not take away anything.. Again, Thank you for sharing! Looking forward to even more sewing tutorials... Blessings🎉🌹🎉
love this video, thank you :-) as an earth -friendly alternative to standard bleach, try using oxygen bleach , it's much less harmful and great for using to brighten white clothes too. Also, oxygen bleach is great for using to clean your home :-)

Hi, my dear, I’ve put two links in the pinned comment to this video - how to use sewing machine and how to sew by hand☺️ Depending on if you own a sewing machine or not these are videos that will help you learn the basic. After that you can confidently attempt to do any beginner-friendly tutorial you will find interesting on KZread! ❤️
Very well done, but I can't see what the bleach did.
@MayLina

thank you! Bleach just made the colors lighter and warmer giving the dress more of a purple color than blue. Which isn't necessary at all, it's just me being very picky about colors haha

@@MayLina Thank you for clarifying that, maybe it's just hard for me to see on video, but I do take you're word for it.
